I have a question for you guys. I have a Vizio TV and I want to play my Sega Genesis on it, I am using composite AV if that matters. I can get it to come on but it runs terrible, it has a huge delay and is slow as dirt. If there is anything I can do to get it to work right please let me know. If not, oh well.

I've run into this same problem b4.  For some reason HDTV's can lag alot when trying to play through inputs other than HDMI.  On my TV I looked through the menus and found an option for a gaming mode.  After turning gaming mode on it worked much better.  Hopefully your TV has that option and I hope this helps.

fightorace : Thank you man, I played with that a bit and turned off the auto smooth thing in picture options but if it helped, it was a very small change. What I don't get is I have played other consoles using composite, including the Jaguar and Xbox and didn't see any or much lag or slow down but it makes Genesis and Super Nintendo unplayable. I guess that 800 dollar huge TV will just be for show and the 20 dollar little 90's TV will be where all the action is, too bad though.

This is some good information for the future. Luckily I own a giant 600 lb box tv of death. It's one of the later box models, so it works good for all my old consoles. However, I can't get my NES Zapper to work good. It works, but I can't aim like...at all, whereas I could on TVs a bit older.

Flat-screen Televisions always have a ton of lag because it has to stretch the image and scale it from 4:3 image (Tube television) to a 16:9 image (Flat television). As some others have said, try using the game mode on your TV. Also, change the resolution on the TV from wide screen (16:9) to a square picture (4:3). If lag is still really present, an original Tube will have to do. Hope I helped !

Have you thought about going on Amazon on looking for an adapter? I had to do that before. Not with a Genesis, but I did it with a N64 that ended up not working while I was stationed in Hawai'i.

There are converters you can buy. I bought one that has composite outlets for old systems, and has an HDMI cord out the other end that plugs into the TV. That got rid of any problem I had with my Super Nintendo. Also, my TV has an option to go to 4:3 image. I need to switch it to that when I play it. That with the outlet-->HDMI converter, my problem got fixed.

CRT is the only way to go for true classic gaming. No matter what, a Genesis or Mega Drive will look terrible on a flat screen. Yeah, you can get those converters, and there are some that add scan lines and all that to make it look more "authentic", but it's not, and never could be, right. cathodes 4 lyfe
