I can't stand some of the new fans. They argue over the voice actors of Sonic and ranting on how they want Ryan back instead of focusing on the awful gameplay of recent Sonic games. As well as fans who won't accept the fact that Sonic 06 was a terrible game to play. The fan base is so crazy I wonder if Sega watches these internet fights?

wow 64 words on the post COOL!

And to answer your question I think its yes

they are removing the voice actors and puting sonic back into 2D

Really the fans think going back into 2D = easy way to slove everything

well I am going to say no because of SA series and heros

fun and classic (for heros it is classic)

plus bring back chao graden because its the best thing on a sonic game EVAR .

Sonic has been dumbed down. I remember when I was five or six and we were in the back bedroom of my grandmother's house and I was like "Wow, how'd you do that?" when my cousin beat Sonic CD. I thought he was the best gamer in the world, 'cause I was stuck on zone 3 and he beat the game. I know I've gotten better since then, but when I got Sonic Rush, I beat it in about three days. THREE DAYS. After taking years to get to zone four in Sonic CD, I beat Sonic Rush in three days, and my brother beat it in about a month. He just turned eight, and I traded the game in seven months ago. In my opinion, the only new Sonic games worth playing these days are too easy. But the worst part is that the other games have such lousy mechanics that I can't bear to play them. For instance, I used to have Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii. However, in the fifth world, there was this one level where it was so impossible to steer this "flying pot" I had to ride that I gave up. I traded the game in without beating it. I had never done that before. But that level wasn't the only part that frustrated me. The other part was the speed of the game. Every time you jump, you lose nearly all of your momentum, because to get higher than two inches off the ground, you have to hold down the jump button to make Sonic stop running and start charging a jump. Then there's attacking. Rather than damage your enemies by just jumping on them, you have to get in range, then use a homing attack by shoving the Wii remote forward. Half the time, I had passed the enemy before the system knew I was trying to attack. SEGA really needs to bring back the Sonic gameplay of old, when it was actually fun.

Sonic games need to stick to platforming elements and stay FAR away from trash like Sonic and the Secret Rings.

GRIFFITH! GRIFFITH! GRIFFITH!
Beastiality is what turned me off. And the fact he was holding a sword. Makes me sad.

...this probably won't seem like the best move on my part, as it'll appear as though I'm necroing the thread, but I do have something relevant to say.

As a whole, I do agree that the entirety of the Sonic fan base is crazy. Sega can do whatever they want to Sonic (hell, they could turn it into a hentai game if they wanted to), but everyone's going to argue about something; either how awesome it is or how much one particular element of it sucked. *glares at Eversion72's remark about the sword and the irrelevant remark on beastiality* (There is no instance in any Sonic game where a human has sex with an animal. I know enough of the story of Sonic 06 to see what you might be thinking, but Sega wouldn't allow them to go that far.)

However, there are some individuals who aren't crazy like much of the 'fan base' out there who rate the game fairly and without prejudice. These are the people Sega needs to pay attention to, if the company can even find them.

Secret Rings and Black Knight, I found little problems with them (aside from the somewhat corny storyline in both cases) and don't understand the control problems bignatealpha was having. Secret Rings, I am very near 100% of the game, just missing a scant few Fire Souls in a few levels. Every level is gold ranked, and the only levels I had real problems with were the challenge levels. (Especially about half the 'don't get pearls' missions.) With Black Knight, I thought it was much better than Secret Rings and didn't care that Sonic was holding a sword. My problem was the fact that Sonic's best way of moving is jumping in the air and spinning through everything like a sawblade. Defeats a lot of things for a lot of points and a fast time, but just isn't Sonic. Again, nearly 100% that game too, just missing a few items on the list for 100%.

Sonic 06, I have never played it and do not have plans to play it. From what I hear, I wouldn't be able to get into it because of its problems. And I can usually get past quite a bit of game problems to enjoy a game fully.

Sonic Heroes, that game needed a lot more polish on its bonus stages. Never in my life have I had so much trouble getting the Chaos Emeralds in any Sonic game with Special Stages, and I usually just squeak by in S3K. (Seriously, sudden stop at the start of half of the special stages that makes no logical sense in being there makes things a lot harder.) Rest of the gameplay was good, but that one thing almost made me sell the game back to Gamestop.

And yes. Chao Garden was fun to do. But based on how long it's been since they've done anything with that, I doubt we'll be getting it back anytime soon.

Hope that's enough to not get called out for necroing a thread... though it technically still was on page 1 from my screen...

xfighter1138 : Yeah, agreed. Sega really is treating Sonic like a spoiled child.

At least Bully helped me with the Jet Radio thing due to what you can do in both games (Skateboard/Roller blade around a spray paint the whole place). I agree though, Jet radio has a better map.

sonikku : Yea, the story is starting to really fail.

I think Sonic's Newer voice actor actually makes Sonic sound older and more mature (in Sonic unleashed that is).

P.S : Wow, look at my posts, I dunno what was I thinking back then.

As much as I loved the 2D games, they had a big gameplay flaw. They tried to make a platform game about running fast. Sure, it looked cool, but platform games don't work without jumping. This led to problems such as hardly any stretches where you could really run without running into something like spikes or an enemy. I feel the 3d games remedied this problem somewhat with now being able to move in 3 dimensions and run in 2 dimensions instead of just a straight line. Now you could dodge things without necessarily stopping. Then they went ahead and messed up the 3D games with glitchy controls and a bad camera. Getting hung up on the corners of invisible walls and having the camera point the opposite way of where you need to go is NOT fun. I feel the downhill started after Sonic Adventure 2.

I see your point, Lagslayer, about the 2D games having that problem. But here's the problem: If Sonic is always at his top speed, you literally would have to have constant split second reaction time to dodge enemies on a flat expanse of land. Flat expanses of land that stretch for many many screens would be bad level design because that would become boring, so there kinda has to be that platformer element. Yes, it slows Sonic down quite a bit, but skilled players can more easily navigate these elements with minimal speed loss. (I'm not one of those players, but I'm sure there are several videos on Youtube which would prove I'm right.)

With the 3D games, you're right that you can more easily navigate the obstacles without losing speed. But there has to be spots where the player has to stop and think, or it'll get repetitive. Sonic may be all about speed, but if that's all there is, it could turn many of the players off.

So imagine a 2D game like the one you might be thinking of, where Sonic can really run without running into anything. How many of the early 16-bit era gamers would have enjoyed a game with more of those and less obstacles?

I hope I'm getting my point across decently enough. If I'm not addressing your point completely, please help me out a little.

I personally love Sonic the Hedgehog. One of my favorite series for many a reason.

First and foremost is the speed of the gameplay. All too many games I can lean back and casually stroll through a level in a different game. However, Sonic doesn't let you do that. It doesn't FORCE you to go fast, but it entices you to.

Secondly is the actual gameplay, a simple premise, get to the end of the stage as fast as you can and you get bonus points. Don't get hit when you have no rings left or you are done, try and avoid staying underwater too long. All solid facets.

Third is how the games have gotten good in the 3D realm. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was AMAZING and one of my fave games to date even (I won't lie, I did shed a tear when I thought Sonic had died... sorry for the spoilers). Yeah some games aren't that great, but we should remember the games for what they are, and not what they aren't.

However, my one complaint with the series IS the lack of characters and development. I mostly make up the characters' stories because I REFUSE to watch the anime. So I am constantly trying to evolve the characters in my head, something that should be done within the game instead.

Okay, I have heard much of this myself, and the problem is that Sega doesn't wanna listen to their fans. We all know what needs to be done, what kinda games they need to make, and what characters they need to incorporate in newer games, but all Sega does is keep throwing the same crap at us, hoping that we will decide that it's not crap if we get it enough! I think that a board of good Sonic fans could make a dozen sonic games, ALL being better than any Sonic game made to date.

Best Keep your concience as clean as you can, or charma will come with a blade in it's hand. It will strike all those who seek to gain without giving, and spare all of those who are weak and forgiving.

If the game is engaging and relatively glitch free, I would usually consider it a good game. The Tails/Eggman levels from SA2 weren't the typical speed courses you'd expect from the earlier sonic games, but you were driving a robot and shooting missiles at everything that moved. The Knuckles/Rouge levels are difficult to love, but most of them aren't bad once you learn how to navigate them. I say most, because Mad Space is just a nightmare; god help you if the emerald shard is on the train. Sonic and Shadow levels were still all the speed you would come to expect. I blame most of the Sonic Wars on bitter Sega fanboys who are mad they lost the console wars and were consumed by Nintendo.

The whiny kids of the fanbase are bored. Why else do you think we have people moaning about the logo for Sonic 4?

Sonic Games should only be like Sonic Adventure 1, the speed was correct for the 3d gaming of today and the side characters had less levels than him.
And tails was stuck shooting in a BOT !

I think that the Sonic Adventure games are excellent examples of Sonic games. They had more challenges than the more recent games, and had better control.

i hate how they have made it into 3D now, if they kept it 2D and still have a bit of a plot change [see sonic CD], then it would be a great sonic game. but sometimes, the new2D games aren't as what people should want. [SPOILER START, ABOUT SONIC 4.]

for example, sonic 4. everyone thought it would be the best game ever for sonic, but im sure a LOT of people will come to a surprise to find out that its mostly a remake like game for sonic 1 and 2 on the genesis. they had mostly the same levels, and same bosses, but other than that its still a great game

SEGA really needs some originality when it comes to making games, cause sonic is heading more and more downhill
