Opening statement: My hatred for this game is unspeakable in terms of words (actually scratch that, the ps3/360 version were good and I've never played the portable ones) The disappointment this game brought was astonishing and mocking, it was such a let down, and I mean a big LET DOWN, and please remember I'm referring to the wii version and not any other version. I will try the best to provide the most unbiased (excluding music as that's my own preference.) and optimistic review I can, making sure to at the very least, mention a positive for every trait despite the fact I may have to exaggerate the little bit, nevertheless on with the review....
Graphics 4: OK, It's the Wii I'm not expecting HD 1800p or any of that good stuff, but come on please at least make the models a little more presentable I mean the models are rough edged and not very colorful, I mean the special effects were presentable, nothing fancy, but certainly MUCH better than the models. The weapon (more on that later) looks like a pillow in the shape of a chair, really? Come on I know, graphics don't matter if the gameplay is good, but this game has either or, and that's really sad....
Sound 7: The sound effects are there not bad nor good, but there, they sound realistic-ish, It's tough to explain, I mean, the chairs sound like chairs, the character's grunts sound like a human's grunt (one complaint is that female characters have a male grunt
) all I really can say is, they're not gonna make you turn off the sound, but they're not really good either UGH. While the sound is just meh, the soundtrack is redeeming, there are a handful of tracks I enjoy, I really like rap and was a bit disappointed only 2 rap songs made it in
, but nevertheless the soundtrack had some good rock songs, anyways I'll go over them and give a snap judgement of my favorite from both genres:
Song-Stand Up. Artist-8Ball & MJG. Genre-Rap: Easily my favorite song from this game, the overall flow is great and and 8 ball stays on beat , and MJG delivers just as well.
Song-you wouldn't know. Artist- Hellyeah Genre-Rock: This song was a good pump up and a decent workout song, the lyrics are also pretty catchy, I'd definitely recommend checking this song out.
Addictiveness 1: No I will never play this game ever again, unless I really had too, the gameplay is a generic wrestling title with nothing more than a signature move to break the redundancy, I mean everything feels the same, it's very boring and it gets old veeery fast, except of course for the editing a superstar you hate and making him/her do an embarrassing entrance and theme, that could generate some immaturity and laughs, but it's very limited (especially in the wii version) and also gets old very fast. They also removed the character classes which were things that gave niches depending on your 2 chosen classes (like high fliers could do a possum pin and a dirty class wrestler can hit the groin)
Story 1: Poorly made, instead of the excellent 24/7 mode in the ps3 and 360, we get a main event mode, yay..... not. It's basically just a mode which generates random matches for you to fight, you can go to the same arena numerous times in a row (wrestlemainia doesn't happen 30x in a row) There was no character development AT ALL, there was no invading shows, no starring in movies, none of that. You want a positive? OK there was a level up system =/ (which was aesthetic to fullest)
Depth 3: With 5 match types (all very similar), 1 weapon, and a failure of a story mode, there's absolutely no depth in this abomination of a mess of a failure. let's go over the match types:
Singles: standard wrestling match guy vs guy or girl vs guy, standard stuff, this is basically the template for all the other match types, if you're alone pick this as the AI is awful and you don't need more.
Tag team: same as above but with a partner you "tag" the other partner allow him/her to fight while you heal, if you have 2-3 players pick this
Triple threat: Same as singles, but with 3 people, pick this if you have 3 players
Hardcore: Adds chairs, pick this if you liek dem chairz
Knockout: Instead of a pin or submission, you have health, if you're into health bars in fighting games, pick this.
I just gave the whole list of matches in the wii version, I know, lots of the right?
Weapon:
Chair: It's stronger than a punch (I think)
So there's all the modes and weapons this game has to offer, have fun. I will give this a positive in saying that there are at least some wrestlers to unlock and some clothing for your CAW, but nothing more.
Difficulty 8: I consider a 5 "Perfect" in terms of difficulty, as I think 5 means balanced, anyways this game has terrible and I mean TERRIBLE controlls the motion control is unresponsive at best and defiant at worst. And the cursor is large and shaky, You may think that you have to do the moves physically to preform them, but it just goes down to button mashing and shaking the wii remote like an idiot, which makes for a terrible game, if you need some positive, the A and B button work in the menus. Oh yeah, did I mention you can't pause???? That's right you can't pause and quit a game or reset it or adjust settings, you're are royally screwed if your home button is broken, because obviously nobody wants to quit a match or anything like that.
Overall 2.3: This game, oh this game, it wasn't in the least bit good, this is one of the biggest disappointments I have ever seen in my life, it's such a horrible game, with terrible controls, limited game modes, shoes string game engine, no pause button, poor graphics, abysmal story mode, and non existent options for your CAW, this makes for a terrible experience that cannot be described in pictures, actions or words, thank you for reading.
