So as you may know, the first ten Final Fantasy games were more like the Pokemon RPGs - They had a turn-based battle system. But after Final Fantasy X, they changed RPG style do a completely different battle system where you actually move around in battle and you don't take turns attacking each other.

Personally, I really liked the first ten Final Fantasies. Turn-based RPGs are my thing, you know? I just really, really do not like how they turned the series into crap (no offense if you don't think the same).

So what do you think of them?

TheFadedWarrior : Well, Truth is, I have never really gotten into final fantasy games. The first one I ever played was FFXII, And I digged that game. Although I got stuck in them. I liked the battle system in that. After that I decided to try FFV, And I thought it sucked. Years later, I decided to spend 3 dollars and buy FFX from a thrift store, And fell in love with it. And so I decided to try FFV again, And I loved that too.

To answer your question though, I liked 1-10, And they others are cool too. Although what I've heard about FFXIII and FFXIII-2, I hear it sucked, But I personally wouldn't diss it Just because It's Campaign/Mission based.

For me, I loved 1-6 and still think they are among the best games ever made.  To me, the series started to change with number VII.  I enjoyed VII really well, but it didn't feel quite the same to me.  After that, I felt that the series was hit-and-miss up to the MMO that they released.  Since I don't tend to get involved in the MMOs, that's where my experience with the series ended, so I cant really pass judgement on the more recent games in the series.

In my opinion FFX was the pinnacle of the series, I know a lot of people love and hype the 7th game to no end, I even know a few who loved the 8th generation, to which I agree that both games were great and those before them, but 10 for me is where it really hit home.

I never really got to be apart of the first FF MMO and that makes me slightly sad cause I hear it still slightly has a player base that can self sustain the mmo for as long as they want, I pretend X-2 never happened, I did however enjoy XII, but then the travesty (my opinion) came out known as FFXIII, then all of her spin-off sequels to follow.

I'll be quite pleased when they stop reintroducing Lightning and her bunch back into the FF universe, the only one I even remotely had connection to was Snow, other than a few of the more minor characters the whole lot of them were just a bunch of terribly written characters, on the extreme ends of the arch-type spectrum.

I am excited to see where the new games will take us however, I know the game play fundamentals seem to be changing or evolving as it were and as long as they do the mechanics justice and the story is sound? I think I could flow with the tides of change. 

I could play through XI twice. The problem was not the switch through from the turn based battle mode but I thought the writing and the mood was not as good. And sure,the characters were again carbon copies of the previous ones but this one they did not have any charm at all. It was still okay, I could live with it even though the second time around it felt really depressing. I made a point of not even trying the XII as I don't want to play online.

XIII however... It just got worse.Okay, fancy animation and all that. Even more stupid battle system and even more superficial charecters.Plus the feeling that you are walking in some tube where there is no going back or forth or anywhere,smashing buttons and watching cut scenes that are just confusing that you just cant understand anymore since you did not play the game in a month. Also the music annoys the living s out of me. (Argh! The after battle music started to play in my head! Get it out! Get it out of me!)

Maybe I play it to the end one day. And the sequel. It is Final Fantasy still after all and maybe I just did not get it but... All in all, I would rather start again any of the PlayStation one or two era games than try again. As for the future, I have nothing I would look forward to with any kind of hope.

Brigand : I'm semi-confused, I think you're mixing up FFXII with FFXI, cause Final Fantasy 11 was the first MMO, then Final Fantasy 12 was single player story based.

But other than that, I totally agree with everything else, Motomu Toriyama I personally believe needs to be placed else where in the company, put him back as a scenario writer, or something else moot like he was back in FFX, cause he's created literally every shoddy entrance (again, my opinion) to this series.

He has his own vision of what FF should be and I can't quite agree with the directions he's taking it, plus he said there is a possibility that Lightning might return some day, as if it were something we were supposed to be excited about.
