Reident evil 4 may not be scary per se, But it does kinda startle you when something pops out of nowhere. Mainly it's about survival. Conserve ammunition, Health supplies, And anything else that will help you out in the game. You'll need to have quick reflexes to be any good at the game. When i first played the game, I sucked at it. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Eventually my brother, m0ssb3rg935, picked up the game and showed me how to play it right. From there, I played it non stop. Honing my skills. Nowadays i can aim and get a headshot inside of 2 seconds. It takes a whole lot of skill to beat the game. Don't want to drag on forever about it so i'll start the review. Graphics:9. The graphics capability for the gamecube is astounding, Astonishing even. The 3D models of the characters seem to move, act, and look extremely realistic. I don't personally enjoy realisticness in videogames, But this game is just perfect. Compared to the ps2 version, It's better than the ps2 version. In the gamecube version, cloud coverage, lightning, Blowing things in the wind, It's not there in the ps2 version. The guns are rather realistic looking, Except for the thompson. It shows you swiveling, but it's actually supposed to just stick it in there. Sound:5. The sounds are pretty good, But the gun blast noises all sound pretty much the same. I mean, If you close your eyes, You really couldn't tell the difference between the broken butterfly, or the shotgun. If it were a bit different that would be better. Other than that, The wind noises and echoes of the blasts, Breaking noises when you break windows or vases are very interesting. Reloading sounds are cool, like when you pump a shotgun after reloading it. But, Impale sounds aren't very good. They sound very weird. Like, If someone stabs you, It makes a unsheathing sword sound. Not very fitting for the situation. It would be better if they fixed that if they remade the game. Music:N/A. No music really. Would like it if there was. Story:9. I find the story to be good, If not a bit strange. Theres an underground satanist group who steals the presidents daughter when she was going to colledge, And then, The president hires Leon S kennedy to find her. Which he eventually got caught up in this organization. You have to go to spain, and then you encounter a whole village of crazy people possesed by parasites, People with pitchforks, knifes, axes, And a crazy guy with a CHAINSAW!, And i giant who ends up trying to crush you with trees., Then, you have to go against weird creepy people in hoods, With bowguns, flails, scythes, and one dude with these sort of wolverine-like claws that come out of his arms. Then when you reach the island, You have to fight people with electrified poles, MORE bowguns, giant people with weird club things, more giants, And one dude with a minigun. There's also a lot of plot twists i wont say, But their quite interesting. So, This is a very good story in my opinion. Addictiveness:10. I played this like crazy once i knew how to play. I shared this game with 2 others, and they kept accidentally overwriting my file. So i had to start over and over again. I didn't mind, Because this game is incredibly addictive. After all.. Who doesn't love to shoot possessed people with a shotgun and see their heads explode? I enjoy it because when you get the mercenaries minigame, I get a bunch of headshots back and forth, In a very small room, And i play musical heads. It's like *bang bang bang splat splat* *bang bang splat splat* Like that one song beethoven or mozart did. Can never really remember which. Depth:10. Depth.. phew.. There's way too much stuff in this game to do. After you beat the game, Get all of the hidden guns, treasures, and supplies, You can play assignment Ada, Which is an extremely hard mission that involves you playing as ada wong, and retrieve 5 plaga samples and leave the island. You still have to encounter a lot of those things i said, so it's really hard. Then theres the mercenaries minigame. You have to get a 5 star rating on every stage with every character. And when you have to face people with chainsaws, That can be extremely hard. Not only that, But you have TIME LIMIT. If you manage to do that, You can get the strongest gun in the game. Which you still have to buy of course Difficulty:10. Remember when i said that part about the chainsaws? Yeah. They kill you in one hit. You run into them swinging that beast at you, And your head flies off and bam! You're dead. Oh, and the minigun man? He nearly kills you in 2 hits. And it takes A LOT of ammo to kill them. Same with the giants, bosses, And the guy with a double bladed chainsaw in the mercenaries minigame. There's also people with shields which take more ammo. So you can expect a hard game on this. Not hard enough? There's a higher difficulty game option. Which is nearly impossible to beat. And i don't think you get anything special for beating it. Overall:9.7. I enjoyed this game, And still enjoy it to this day. Although i dread the mercenaries minigame because my brother wanted the handcannon and forced me to play it all the time. Luckily our memory card got corrupted! And i didn't have to do it anymore. Hope you have a fun time with this one, Cause me and my brother sure did. Really wouldn't say it takes skill to beat this game. It takes slight getting used to, but then it is very easy. The second easies in all the Resident Evil games, in my opinion. This was the first Resident Evil game I managed to play all the way through using only the knife (except for the parts where it is mandatory to use the Sniper Rife. Yeah, I would agree with that. I've never been a fan of the Resident Evil series personally (went downhill after 2, though 3 was still above average), though I've always made a habit of trying to get into it when a new game comes out. These games aren't really difficult, I mean, I beat 2 and 3 (which I would call much more difficult thanks to the controls) when I was younger (probably younger than the reviewer of this game is now , so it's not like I'm not speaking from experience. I always saw 4 as really easy and more for the casual fan of the series than the 10 yoshirulez! seems to think of it as. Then again, he also rated Yoshi's Story as tremendously difficult, and I would disagree with that as well. But back to this game, yeah, I think the difficulty score is way skewed. I also question the other aspects of the score (because I wouldn't say RE4 is terribly deep, or even terribly fun) but the difficulty definitely stands out to me. Yeah, I would agree with that. legacyme3 : I personally think that the concept of Resident Evil 4 was fantastic. I loved the gameplay aspect, even if it was a bit easy. The story was what kind of lost it a little for me. Though the story did get more interesting when I read the entire Wesker files in Resident Evil 5 and found out the actual purpose of Resident Evil 4 and how it fit with the series. |

I suppose, but keep in mind where I'm coming from here, I'm not a big fan of the series to begin with. I know there are others like me. I am trying to view RE4 as it's own game, a standalone, separate from the rest of the games in the series. The mark of a good game is for it to fit. The mark of a great game is for it to fit without any other games needing to explain to make it fit better. The best games should be thought provoking, but leave the answers somewhere you can find them. While RE4 does the latter, in many respects, it fails in the former. Another great game from this series. Nothing like turning off the lights and playing Resident evil. |
