I am a huge baseball fan. I love watching baseball, and I definitely love playing baseball video games. I have been playing baseball video games for well over 10 years and ever since MLB The Show first was released in 2006, I have been a huge fan. Sure, there are other great Baseball franchises such as the 2K games and The Bigs, but for years, The Show has been sweeping people off their feet.
First off, there are the graphics of the game which are 100% revolutionary for a baseball video game. It's not a science fiction game where you have to create all sorts of different worlds and lands, it's a game that involves a real place and real people which means that it should be easy to replicate. However, that's not really the case, most baseball games for a very long time had trouble with graphics and resorted to using weird pixelated graphics and such. MLB The Show does not do that, they try their best to make Bryce Harper look like Bryce Harper and Mike Trout to look like Mike Trout. Guess what? They succeed at that, what the developers make in the game is not an exact image of what players and stadiums really look like, but it's one of the most realistic images that baseball game developers ever used. In my opinion, it really looks like I am there on the field whether I am pitching, hitting, or fielding. For graphics, I give the game a 9 out of 10.
Next will be sound, which is in no short supply in this game. In addition to a great soundtrack that includes the likes of Blink182, Imagine Dragons, and the Rolling Stones, the game also features hundreds of lines of commentary by real sportscasters. Overall, the sound is perfect.
The game is very addicting and could easily be the most addicting baseball game ever because of all of it's features and game modes. Road To The Show, the franchises most notable game mode allows you to create your own player and start from the very bottom of the farm system and work your way up to the Hall of Fame. A new feature that makes the game even more addicting is called The Show: Live which allows players to use real time schedules and rosters to make the game feel even more like a real baseball game. In addition to all this, players can choose from full season modes, postseason modes, the Home Run Derby, practice, and many other amazing features. Because of this, the Addictivness rating also gets a perfect score.
As for story, there is no real story in a baseball game, so I am not going to give it a grade, however, you could argue that the concept of Road To The Show and trying to make it to the Hall of Fame is a pretty good story.
The game is extremely deep. Playing the Road To The Show mode allows you to play hundreds of baseball games during your storied career at any position for any team. Playing online modes allows you to play with friends and opens up even more opportunities. I give a perfect score for the depth.
As for the difficulty of the game, I give it a 3. The game is not challenging at all, as long as you know how the controls work, you will be fine and you will have fun playing this game
As for an overall game, MLB 13 The Show is the single greatest baseball game I have ever played and if you are a fan of baseball games, I recommend that you give it a try.
