Again with the "What Is Love?"... And here I thought I answered it, but I didn't. Oddly, I just posted to my livejournal on this very subject, so forgive me if you know where my livejournal is and if you ever look at it.
John - Ever been in love before? Or think you have? What does love mean to you?
chain_gang_princess - wat is a true love?? i always think ive found 1 but i cant tell if they are.... Again ill say i hate the waiting game
There are 8 different types of Love, and sometimes they blend together. 8 places where people have been known to say that they love another human, and it's not all opposite-sex love (or even sex love at all). In fact, opposite-sex love is Lust and you should be ashamed of yourself. ;P
Family-brand respect. (Philos) When you say you love your brothers and sisters, love your mother and father, and love your close friends, you are speaking of Philos.
Infatuation. (Ludus) When you say you love a girl or guy you've just met, or only known for less than a month, this is Ludus. It is probably the love that lasts the least amount of time, even less then the next one.
Attraction. (Libido) This is what a lot of people confuse for love, when they say that there is no love, or that love is just a biological process, your brain, your hormones, your body playing tricks on you. This is the love you have for someone you're making out with. Sex is Libido. Lust is Libido. But this is NOT against God's Sins. God knows that the only way we can have babies is through sex. It is only a sin if you practice lust in excess. Only a sin if you practice pride, gluttony, wrath in excess. That's what my preacher says at least, about "Why Lust is a sin, but why he makes men and women marry eachother"
Obsession. (Mania) When you are obsessed about your partner, can't go a single day without talking to them, build a shrine in their honor, or any combination of the three, then you are Maniacal. While you might call this Love, it is not TRUE love. True love is only a mix of all of these things.
Commitment. (Storge) is the Love you have for someone you're married to. The security in the fact that you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone. Capricorns feel this way WAY too easily. *hates his inner capricorn* Will you marry me?
Care (Pragmatism) This is the love you have for someone you care about and don't want to be harmed, want to see succeed in their life. It's not "True Love" necessarily, but then, none of these are really true love.
Admiration (Agape) is Unconditional Love. This is the love you have for someone, no matter what they do. This is the way God loves us, so says my preacher. =) (And it's the way we should love our brothers, our enemies, and even complete strangers and hippies. Otherwise Jesus will kill us violently when he comes back to the earth.)
Valentines day Love. (Eros) This is the closest to what people think "True Love" is, this is when you make puppydog eyes and kiss and cuddle with someone and feel warm and fuzzy.
But Eros Alone is not really TRUE love unless you admire your kissy cuddly partner unconditionally, care about their welfare, are obsessed about them, infatuated with them, attracted TO them, and love them like a family member, and are committed to them unconditionally (Marriage without Divorce EVER).
THAT is true love. Sorry to disappoint you all.Again with the "What Is Love?"... And here I thought I answered it, but I didn't. Oddly, I just posted to my livejournal on this very subject, so forgive me if you know where my livejournal is and if you ever look at it.
