Ok, so, once upon a time, crash bandicoot was sony's mascot.. he was a big star, and so, he got many sequels.. eventually, his company, naughty dog, left him.. and here we are where activision owns him, with crash of the titans.. now, i have this game physically, and i was excited about it. but i beat it within a couple hours.. now, onto the review. The story is Dr. Neo cortex, crash's nemesis, plus a gathering of his other deadliest enemies, including dingodile, tiny tiger, N.gin, and cortex's niece Nina, lead by Uka Uka, team up and kidnap crunch and coco bandicoot plus aku aku, hoping to make coco build a giant robot, and bait crash to his ultimate doom. not a bad plot, but not great either. 6/10.
Now, gameplay... the gameplay is so different from the classic crash games... Crash fights with hand-to-hand combat skills instead of spins, and "jacking" enemies to gain their powers.. this is how you spend most of the game, because you oftentimes find obstacles only these enemies, called titans, can break. in fact, only sometimes does it come up where you NEED to get off of enemies so crash can climb vines or get to platforms that only he can get to with his smaller weight and size. 6/10. ok, depth... There are these tiki masks you can collect, which unlock battle arenas, and to get to different islands, you do these surfing minigames, which i guess you get a bonus if you smash all the crates, i never could.. as i said, i beat it in a flash, so depth 4/10. And difficulty.. You can beat most fights by mashing the attack button, and it's made even EASIER by the fact that by getting "mojo", you can upgrade crash's abilites, plus with "stealth crates" you can sneak past enemies, avoiding fights ENTIRELY! 4/10, only because in 1 part it's easy to get lost, and if you're not careful, enemies can trap you and spam you with attacks. The graphics aren't that bad, the enviornments are nice, and sprites are good except crash's own. He just looks stupid, with that dumb look on his face! 7/10 Sound, again, are decent, and the music is fitting to the areas and situations in the game, with, again, the main problem being crash himself. Even before you start up the game, he says "ah.." like a total dummy! He makes stupid sounds like that throughout the game, and i think he should've just stuck with saying "WHOA!" 7/10 again. so, all in all, i think this game deserves a mediocre 4.3/10. The most i can say is that the controls at least work, except for times when it won't let you jack onto enemies. I mostly don't like it because it's so easy, plus it totally ruined crash's character. Now, i know i'm not gonna play this game again in my life, but if someone likes it, ok. But for longtime crash fans, avoid this game! It's so different from the core formula you love that i can't help but think it might upset people who grew up with crash.. He needs to get a reboot so he can get a spark of life and get back to that core formula, imo! So, let me know how you liked this review, if it's TOO detailed, sounds TOO much like a rant, i tried NOT to do that, but, let me know, and i'll improve next review i do.
