Nintendo's made some really disappointing games, but what do you think are the biggest disappointments? I'll leave my opinion here.
Yoshi's Story was a god-awful sequel to Yoshi's Island. Yoshi's Island was a side-scrolling platformer where you played as Yoshi, collected optional secrets, polished up your performance grades on the levels, and generally threw eggs at enemies. In some ways, it was possibly the best (and most fun) game of its kind. Yoshi's Story ruined it by adding an ugly visual style, wonky controls, and a theme that was kiddy enough to insult the intelligence of your average 5-year-old (as if Yoshi's Island wasn't kid-friendly enough to begin with). Yoshi's Story was a completely forgettable collect-a-thon, easily one of the worst games I've ever played. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes had a lot of potential, but it just fell flat compared to Prime 1. Star Fox Assault was just dumb, even by Star Fox standards. Zelda: Majora's Mask was just confusing, convoluted, and impossibly frustrating beyond belief. Right when you think you've found a way to get to the first dungeon, you suddenly discover a new complication that forces you to reset back to the first day. I've never figured it out. Guess I'll be needing a walkthrough...Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was also pretty lame. It was way too easy, the touch screen interface was cheesy and overdone, and I hated the dark world dungeon. Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time also could've been a lot better, as the gameplay gimmicks were handled rather poorly and the plot was very lame and uncreative (especially compared to Superstar Saga). And yes, I do not like the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels). It's almost literally a ROM hack of the first game. Mother 3 had a dumb plot with way too much talking, and it was not much fun to play. What are some of your examples?

It has to be Super Mario 64 Digital Sscreen. In my very opinion, it ruined the original game. One of the reasons I joined was to enjoy how good that game was. Ever since the Digital Screen edition came out, everyone made a rumor about Waluigi being in the game. Super Mario 64 players were calm about the game's qualities. So there you have it.

The most disappointing Nintendo sequel is no doubt Mario and Luigi Partners in Time I loved Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga seeing Partners in Time as Superstar Saga's sequel was quite disappointing to see.
Partners in Time just was pretty bad compared to Superstar Saga.

Yeah, that game was awesome! Mario And Luigi Partners In Time could have been better, Nintendo.

Well who cares? Bowser's Inside Story was good!

While I don't hate it, Partners in Time WAS pretty disappointing. It wasn't as creative and funny as the first but still a good game. Anyways, New Super Mario Bros. 2 didn't seem all that great to me, it was just...coins, nothing more. And I agree with xandermartin98, Yoshi's Story was a terrible sequel.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

xandermartin98 : I actually loved Yoshi's Story. I found the light hearted and colorful approach to be refreshing. But to each their own, right?

I'll have to go with Mario Bros. 2 (or the lost levels, depending on where you live). All they did was add a few new level designs, a poison mushroom, and a boosted difficulty. That was disappointing to say the least. Buying that was kind of like buying the same game you already had.

Majora's Mask was a great game. The sense of urgency interwoven and the time based events were brilliantly executed.

The New Super Mario Bros. games are quickly getting stale. They're practically the same thing over and over again! Although, my least favorite was New Super Mario Bros. 2. It was linear, extremely short, didn't use the 3d it was given well, and the reward for collecting the million coins that was emphasized is crap.

I think Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) was Nintendo's worst sequel. They took a game called Doki Doki Panic and replaced the main characters with Mario characters and it was nothing like the original Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 3 was great though and it was similar to Super Mario Bros.

Mother 3. I know that I'm gonna get a lot of "Dude what the crap, you're stupid." for this but in my opinion, the story was total crap, the gameplay not entertaining at all, it actually took me 2 months of boredom to play through the stupid thing.

and on a less hated note, Yoshi's Island DS was kind of crap, the two screen thing was handled poorly.

zeross121 : Looking back, I actually do somewhat despise Mother 3. It was only released in Japan, the XP-grinding element of it was stupid, the plot was ridiculous and had overly long and frequent cutscenes that didn't really do that great of a job explaining the true meaning of what was going on. Also, when I started playing my first playthrough of Mother 3 (on an emulator), I was really irritated about the arguable fact that it just didn't have the true Earthbound feel to it, even though the soundtrack (and the humor) was desperately trying (and failing) to have the same feel to it. Also, Lucas sucks compared to Ness in almost every way possible. To be honest, the only Mother game that I really got into to the point where it actually felt like it had a little bit of replay value was Mother 2.

Super Mario Brothers 2, easily, it was just downright awful in my opinion.  It wasn't even a mario game, I really don't know what it was.  But then 3 was excellent.

Mario brothers Wii u,  Despite it being a sequel to Mario brothers wii or a follow up,  The game just felt way too much like a rehash of the game with just some amount of changed levels and some new items.

Final Fantasy 7. Okay not really, though I don't really like it, I can't say it was disappointing as much as it was just not my game. I'd like to say Sonic 2 but since I didn't really even like Sonic 1 I cannot say that 2 was disappointing since it was really just the same as 1. However I won't be stuck in a ditch like this the whole reply. I have one game that, even though I never played the first one, can honestly say is the most disappointing sequel of all time. SOCOM 2. Somehow praised by some people as the best Socom game out there, this piece of junk is the only game in the entire game industry that I would ever tell someone not to ever bother with. If you are to ever pick up this abomination ever in your life, be sure to buy an extra large box of tissues and as many sugary treats as you can to counteract the salt that will spill from your body while you play this game.

We can begin with the AI. IT WAS CRAP. Worse than Sheva and Ashley put together. You had a myriad of orders to give to your teammates to help them correctly playout the mission with ease. AND THEY NEVER LISTEN TO ANY OF IT. Tell them to not fire and they will run in guns blazing. Tell them to hide while a convoy is passing by and they'll attempt to raid it like bandits.  Honestly the only way to even somewhat keep em in check was to murder bravo team and leave yourself with only one teammate left to order.

Now I'll mention the checkpoint system. THERE ISN'T ONE! Yup absolutely no checkpoints and no extra lives. You die, you start the entire 30-45 minute mission again from scratch. Not to mention the goshdarn briefing woman telling you to do better while rubbing a giant C RANK UNSATISFACTORY mark in your face every time you fail. Irritation to the maximum.

Finally we will go over the Number 1 reason why this game is crap. To explain it in a few words, you can die in one it from across the map in this game. Let me explain. If you get within about  a 1 or 2 meter radius around an enemy they can smack you with the butt of the gun and kill you instantly. Now even if you run flat out across the map to avoid this, the moment they complete the animation to smack you, wherever you are, you will fall down and drop dead. To make it even worse you can be killed like this THROUGH DOORS. Meaning you can never open a door without worrying if you will have to restart the mission again.

Now if you can honestly find a sequel to a game that is even more disappointing than this, let me know Because honestly I don't believe there is one. Honestly if you can find a game that you can write over 500 words of hate about then be my guest and tell me all about it.

If you ever see this game in your life I recommend burning it and paying for professional hypnosis to remove the memory of ever coming within a distance of 100km of the damn thing. If you find a store selling it in abundance then burn down the store and hope it kills all the copies with it.

Phew, glad to finally get that off my chest. The world needs to know just how terrible that game is. Thank you to anyone who bothered to read this entire post. I know it's long and could probably be revised into a review of the game if edited properly so thank you for taking the time to read this far.
