This is good advice just in case I want write a review in the future, I think this was actually good and well put. Anyway this is good to read.

I have a question: how do you make your reviews more 'eye-catching'? Say for example, a person just scans a review instead of reading it; how do you make it so that the person feels like it's better to read it than just scan the review?

Any advice on review titles? 

Good job making this tutorial to make a good review. Now I think I can start making one. What you should add is advices of each section in the review (Graphics, Sound, etc.) in case someone wanna make one with different sections.

May I just add something? I've noticed a quanity of Reviews Have bad layouts, Either they aren't appropiate, too hard to read. or other things that are making the reviews annoying.




I think it would be better if some reviewers just used some simple layouts, or layouts in general that are easy to read, and don't scroll. that way: 1) the review won't be annoying to read. 2) The layout wouldn't be much of an eyesore.

Again, not to add to a good tutorial, but I would like to point out that I have seen a trend among reviewers lately, to make reviews as long as possible,. I'm a Review Reviewer for a reason, namely, because I love reading people's opinions on the games they play, but even I can't stomach a 3,500+ word review most of the time. And what's worse, much of the time that word count is being hit by adding irrelevant material, like who you are (it shows that for you at the start of your post), how many reviews you've written (you don't have to prove your right to speak your opinion, and boasting is more annoying than impressive. lol), when you wrote your last review, when you plan on posting your next review, or how many words were in your last review. All of those fillers are pointless, and can be more than a little spammy.

As Play4fun said here: Quantity does NOT equal quality, and quite honestly, as someone whose job it is to feature reviews, I am not likely to feature a review that long. Most people won't read that much, and it IS possible to go into too much detail about the game. Leave something for the reader to discover when they play it. I personally think 1,500-2,000 words is plenty in most cases (though less is equally acceptable), and most of the time when you write a review with more than that many words, you end up getting off topic

Also, don't write about how you just wrote this review or that review, or just finished this other game that you're not reviewing right now, and how good it was. Don't talk about how many words are in your reviews either. After all, the objective is to write a review about the game, not a review of your review or other reviews.

Get in there, make your points, explain the game, get out. Simple, and easy to digest for the readers.

Anyway, what I do when coming up with titles for my reviews, is making sure that in the verdict, I've written something that basically explains a big part of the game in a single sentence. Like the review I wrote for Brave: A Search For Spirit Dancer, I took my title for that review straight from the first sentence in the verdict I wrote. I feel that sentence says a lot about that game, and as such, it's a great title.

Now, as for making reviews more 'eye-catching'... Well, apart from your title, which is very important, you should try certain things to make it your 'own' reviews. Put your own personal flair to it, put something in there which not a lot of people do. That's about all the advice I have for you... ^^'

I actually stopped doing reviews because I felt like they were bland. Informative, but very bland. If I'm going to start again, I'm going to make sure that I put more of my personality in it rather than being too objective.

Eirinn : I agree, More users should actually consider using appropiate details. It's something that's note worthy when writing reviews.

I've seen many reviews include uneeded Introductions; Like such as: Who's reviewing the game, Why they are reviewing it. And how long they haven't been reviewing. About 95% of that is not really needed in reviews.

So here's my basic suggestion.


If you want to make an introduction: Keep it related to the game.
What I mean here is that, If you plan to start a basic intro, you could make the intro apart of your overall score, or Have some decent info about the game for starters, You should at least describe what you know of the game, but not too much because of spoliers.

Basic summary of this Post: If you wanna make an introduction to the review, retain it to the game it's self, or at least an overall summary of what you think of it. You shouldn't include uneeded stuff like: why you want to review the game, who's reviewing the game, and how long you haven't reviewed games.  Uneeded stuff like that included in a Review would most likely make your audience(readers) less interested.

Thank you for the good advice when it comes to writing good reviews. I read this before I made my first game review and in overall, people liked my first game review. I respect that you took the time to make this especially to the people who has never wrote a game review before. Now I am more motivated and willing to write more game reviews in the future. Thank you for your hard work, time, and dedication!
