Intro: This is probably one of those overlooked arcade games. G-LOC was originally released in the arcades. It had ports to every Sega system that was around at the time. When people think of Sega arcade games, people think of, Shinobi, Out Run, Space Harrier, Afterburner, Thunder Blade, and the Virtua series. This game came with my Game Gear, and not even I, the living video game encyclopedia. Have never even heard of it. Why has no one heard of it? Well, judging from playing the Game Gear port, G-LOC Air Battle. Is generic at best. That's a shame, because even though game might not screem exciting. It grows on you in a way.
Gameplay C: This game has very lukewarm gameplay. The missions, have little in the way of variety, and shooting enemies is not as satisfying as it should be, also the missile hits in this game are CHEAP, to make things worse, there are always enemies on your tail. G-LOC has its moments though. Its very rewarding to be given a bunch of upgrade points after doing a hard, long mission. Speaking of upgrading, you can upgrade your, weapon, armor, and fuel tank (health bar). You can also replenish your health, and amount of missiles.
Graphics B-: While the detail is nice, I can't stand the HORRABLE scaling in this game. Everything is super choppy, and at times I think a COLECOVISION, can scale like this effortlessly. However as an early Game Gear title, the game showed what the system can do.
Sound B+: The music is calm, and does not suit the game, but the tunes are catchy.
Addictiveness B+: I played this game a lot more then I though I would. Like I said earlier, this game will grow on you, and it can be addicting.
Depth A-: The game has 9 missions, which is plenty for a Game Gear, there is plenty of things you can upgrade. Which adds a very strategic element to the game.
