This is, without question, one of the most popular Sonic the Hedgehog games on Vizzed, and maybe one of the most popular games. With Sonic the Hedgehog as the one, and only playable character, he travels on a long journey to prevent the evil Dr Eggman (or Robotnik I suppose that was his name in those days) from turning animals into robots as part of his plot for World Domination. As this is one of the first ever Sonic games (created 1991), the mission objective is very unfamiliar to the blue hedgehog. The story in this game would go on to become very popular and familiar in future Sonic games. Sonic's abilities are limited, with him being new to the computer game scene. Only run, jump and spin will help Sonic travel through his journey, one in which he will encounter several robotic animals already transformed by Eggman, such as the motobug. Sonic must collect golden rings in order to survive damage, as no rings means the loss of a life upon taking damage. A new life is given for every 100 rings. Other items, such as those in the form of televisions, will be spread about the levels, giving Sonic different special powers, such as invincibility or faster speed. A spinning sign post will indicate the end of a level, and if Sonic have more than 50 rings, he can enter a giant ring to access a bonus level, where Chaos Emeralds much coveted by Eggman can be won, 6 emeralds in total. Unlike in future games, all emeralds collected will not result in Sonic changing into Super Transformation, adding to the complication of the game. At the end of each zone, the blue hedgehog confronts Eggman, and must defeat him to continue his journey. Defeating him in the Final Zone will result in the completion of the game, and send an angry Eggman off on a long trip to another land. Overall, this game in lots of ways signals the beginning of things to come in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and for all the younger players on Vizzed, some of whom may not be familiar to Sonic the Hedgehog games, this is definitely the game which will start increasing their addiction to the Sonic games.
