In A-ism, you can do different level supers, from one two three allowing you to combo supers together if you are skilled enough at juggling.

Another factor is that you can Alpha/Zero counter in which you sacrifice one super level to immediately counter attack with a preset move, simply to knock the opponent back for some air, or stop them in their chip damage combo.

Your guard gauge is average compared to the other isms, and you can block in the air (HURRAY!). You can also recover if you are knocked over on the ground or in the air.

Your super gauge goes up at a good rate compared to X-ism noticeably.

You can taunt (X-ism you can't)

Basically, it's the all-around ism. A for alpha, A for average.

Drawbacks? Well, X-ism does a lot more damage and even though its more classic street fighter meaning less defensive options and utility, though your guard guage is large meaning you can block longer), your super is automatically level 3, so there's one thing to watch out for when fighting an X-ism player.

V-ism, you have access to custom combos and if you've seen the combo vids for those, it's probably the most lethal part of the ism. It has a little more utility in one thing I just discovered in playing the game again but, you have more attacks through pressing forward or backward with punches and kicks, and the normal attacks for neutral. However, the ism is weaker in strength and has a low guard gauge.

Shogun Gamer :
Hmn...
When I had a copy of the game for my playstation I favoured the V-isim.
It was the only way to make the up-close and personal based characters truely shine. Like Fei-Long. He has no projectiles yet is based on one of the worlds most well known fighters. I kept thinking there is something they missed with this guy. So I played till I mastered using Fei-Long Effectively enough to survive the arcade Blitzes from the other players.

I still can not get Guy to be fully effective though.
I can play the computer with him but I still can not own the traditional coin-op Oponet with him. something needs to be more streamlined with his button programming. (Too many delays and not enough power.) The lack of initial speed is what kills the playability. A ninja is fast and does have hidden power like the way you eventually learn how to use him.
But
Because it is so overtly complicated to unlock the his speed most people pass him up for one of the other characters.

Back to the Isims..
The Isims were an interesting feature.
But
For me it showed a lack of skill on the developers end.
For the Home port it is a great idea. For the Arcade??? Bad.
If a person was rich and had a ton of spare time? He would be able to sort out the Isims.
Most of us just Sort out the characters.
The Way it should be.
I felt the same way about the King of Fighters when they gave options on the power gauge.
If a character is more effective one way and crippled another?
Then the developers failed.
For Consoles it is a great idea.
For the Arcade???
Who has the time to figure it out???
Who has the time to memorize it???

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

orionfoxgibson : haha, Guy is one of my better characters in the Alpha series. He actually has link combos, such as light punch, medium punch, heavy punch, heavy kick, or medium, heavy punch. It allows him to get in more combos, and a start up effectively. However, for me, I like to jump around a lot and keep falling with his good ol' elbow...strangely works every time.

But the one thing I really like about him is how pokey he is. Or at least, for my play style that I find most effective against other players is zoning. Keeping them at bay while you poke them when they try to attack. However, the last thing you want to do with Guy is attack relentlessly at poking distance, because you can use his hitboxes against him during such strategy (learned that the hard way). He's actually pretty good with A-ism or V-ism though, depending on what your good at with him. I didn't think he was passed up as much in comparison to Karin actually.

I like playing as Karin, but only for fun mostly. She does have interesting mix-ups, but there is something about her that keeps me from unlocking her true potential...or wanting to. I'd pass her up for Guy or Sakura.

About the isms and people figuring them out. It's mostly figured out in the midst of battle through luck and etc. And people find ways around using a character even if it's with their worst ism. Honestly, I like the idea of having bad characters because the game would be boring otherwise without them.

Best example would be Rock Howard in Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. People claimed he was the low tier of his game, but then in a tournament, some guy using Rock Howard owned whoever he fought in ways they never thought about, so he went to a mid-high tier after that. Learning to overcome flaws and unlocking true potential, makes it even more special than just having completely balanced characters. (like how Justin Wong completely owned someone with Dan Hibiki while using his weakest ultra)

Shogun Gamer :

I have mastered many "bad" or joke characters like Dan for Street Fighter.
My point is not about how bad characters should not exist.

My point is about how smooth each method of fighting should be. Per character.
Throwing in the "Isims" option in an arcade (Coin-op) is bad, flawed, and Week.
Having them Pre set might have been a better option.

Then on the console they should give the Isim options a selectable feature.

Almost no one played this arcade game Till it hit the console.

Everyone went for X-Men Vs Street Fighter at the time. All The Time. Every time.
Then through several reboots with new rosters we eventually got the Marvel Vs Capcom Series.

Many suspect it is bad timing.
I say it is poor planing. Not making a descision to make the game as fun for the meger amount of change a person has in the arcade world is retarded.
The Arcade Machines of Alpha 3 did not even have the move list printed on the machine like in previous Street Fighter games.
Does anyone walk around with a few dollars of quarters???
I walk around with maybe a buck fifty tops.
Do I want to spend all of it getting my but handed to me?
No.

Like I said. Having an option that cripples a third of the roster is a dumb idea for coin-op machines.

Good Luck TO All.
Peace.

orionfoxgibson : I guess you have a point with bad charactersnot existing now that I randomly played Soul Calibur V today. You're totally right about that.

But I still don't really see exactly how it flaws a character all the time when you can simply make up for the flaws. But then again, I do always welcome unfair challenges with open arms so it's something I'm used to I guess.

You're mega right on X-men vs Street Fighter, hah, I looked around for that game first before playing Alpha 3.

Shogun Gamer :
You are still missing the biggest point I was trying to talk about.
Too bad.

Maybe when you play a tourney for $100,000.00 you may understand what i am getting at.

Good luck to all.
Peace.

I am editing this to clear up a few things.
The cash I mentioned is a "Purse".
The Event was Sponsored.

Peace.
