Why is it that in today's society, people find arrogance cute? I can't be the only one that feels this way. I see it almost everywhere.... Any ideas? I can't be the only one that feels this way. I see it almost everywhere.... Any ideas? |

I'm not sure that all society finds arrogance cute. I'll agree that the arrogance level in America has gone way up over the years. I think its just something that people like about a person that most people think is an odd trait, we've all have some of those traits. But beyond that I can't really help out. Can you give some examples of cute arrogance? I'm not sure that all society finds arrogance cute. I'll agree that the arrogance level in America has gone way up over the years. oh... I don't think arrogance is cute at all!!!! It's just, some of the most popular people in real life, or online, are the most arrogant people I've come across. It seems like the ruder and more arrogant you behave, the more people like you. Part of the arrogance I'm talking about is in assuming one is better than another for various reasons. Namely: emotions. I'm not a very emotional person myself, but it seems as though people who ARE emotional get attacked by people who think emotions are stupid, and that someone is weak for having them. That, to me, is arrogance. I don't understand why some people think they are so much better than others because they themselves could care less about other people's emotions and seem to have none themselves. That's just one of dozens of characteristics I'm referring to. It's just, some of the most popular people in real life, or online, are the most arrogant people I've come across. Okay I get ya, thanks you the reply. I'll agree that some of the most popular people in real life/online do come off being arrogant. But then again they kind of have to come off as arrogant or else nobody will "follow them". Lets take for example a local politician running for office. Now when you study Political Science you end up learning that you HAVE to come off as knowing what is in the best interest for society even if it comes out of arrogant. If you don't do this, then the people who you hope and count on to vote for you on election won't vote for you, since they want someone who knows what they are talking about/know. Now of course nobody has the answers to the problems of society, but we have to act this way in order for people to follow you. Another example would be Jesus and his miracles (I know your a religious person and I don't wish to turn this into a religion arguement, but I'm just trying to estabish examples.) Now I'm not going to come out and say that Jesus was an arrogant person (we can debate it, but it will turn into a heated arugement and might be subject to Perma bans); but if Jesus didn't sell to the people he wished to save that he had all the answers, then would they still follow him (again we can debate it, but I want to avoid it, so you can disregard this paragraph and just consentrate on paragraph 2). As to what you say about emotions being stupid and being attacked by society, is that its true. For example when young boys are growing up, parents teach them (either directly or indirectly) that showing emotions is wrong. This is different then lets say young girls, who parents tend to teach them that showing emotions is normal. If you take a Child Psychology or Behavioral Psychology course, they go into some depth on this. Hope I helped! Okay I get ya, thanks you the reply. People find arrogance attractive because it means a person has a self-confidence, a certain style that they treat themselves and the world around them. Arrogence speaks of control over a situation. Control is the same as power and people like power. So, arrogant people are powerful and therefore attractive. I don't care for some arrogant people. Others are completely hilarious. I love H. Jon Benjamin, the guy who does the voice for Archer and Bob's Burgers. He's perfect. I think Dane Cook is a dbag and his arrogance isn't funny in the least. He's not at all funny. I don't find any kind humorous or cute in the slightest. Why is it okay for some people to be arrogant and for others not to be? Are some people superior and somehow 'deserve' the forgiveness? And most people don't like other people having power over them. It's pretty natural to resent someone telling you what to do. So if arrogance is cute because it demonstrates power....... Singelli : I freely admit that I was arrogant when I was younger. When you’re young you think you know it all and you think you have the world at your feet. I found out later on that being cocky isn’t good and in fact hurts you later on in life. Fact is when you’re young you’re naïve whether you want to admit it or not and you really don’t know anything. I know when I finally saw what I had become I was disgusted with myself and in many ways still am. Arrogance is not cute and the fact that some think it is, is frankly sad.
I can’t really answer the question of why arrogance in society is considered cute. It should in reality be frowned upon. Perhaps it depends on the individual more so than society in general. Maybe it takes someone being knocked down to realize that arrogance gets you no where in life. I can’t really answer the question of why arrogance in society is considered cute. I don't think that people find arrogance cute, rather, they see arrogance as confidence. It's hard to not respect confidence. |

NotJon : There is a difference though between self-confidence and outright arrogance. It can get confusing sometimes because there are similarities but there is a difference. I think that is what she’s referring to out right arrogance, people who are full of themselves etc. |

I have never thought arrogance was cute or have known anyone who did...
Well, not REAL arrogance anyway. Fake arrogance/ego to be silly can be entertaining, but that's a different story. True arrogance is just annoying. I can't see how it could be viewed any other way. Arrogance does *not* demonstrate power, it demonstrates weakness. Even if it isn't a sign of some preexisting weakness it's still liable to serve as a weakness itself. It's never really a good idea to think too much about your own abilities in the first place because not only are you prone to being biased one way or the other, there usually isn't even anything to be gained by the exercise in the first place.
Anyway in my experience people find arrogance cute only in fictional characters who make it entertaining. In real life it always manages to offend someone. Now excuse me while I go back to lurking. You never know where or when I’ll pop up next.... Anyway in my experience people find arrogance cute only in fictional characters who make it entertaining. I would agree that arrogance displays weakness. I think there are too many people who feel like they have a lot to compensate for, and thus they feel like words and attitude are their only way to make up for what they feel they have failed in. I don't really know how to read arrogant people... I can't imagine being that way at all. And I don't know why so many people like it. I know many of you posting here are saying that you haven't seen people liking it.... but I've heard from a few that see the same thing I do. To me, it seems that arrogant people think they are better than everyone else, and they feel fine throwing insults left and right because they want to put on a show of that 'superiority'. However, to me, humbleness and humility are far more attractive. I think most people can spot people deserving of praise, without those people having to shove their way around. Perhaps it's just that these people think people won't see what they consider to be good about themselves, and so they feel they must MAKE it seen. After all, almost every arrogant person I've ever known simply wants to be the center of attention. I've found in my life that a lot of people who come off as arrogant and superior are usually not. actually as arrogant as they want us to think they are. Outright arrogance is often a cover for a deep, very fragile self-esteem. They are constantly trying to protect themselves, so they attack before they can be attacked. It's sad, and slightly pathetic, but there you are. Some truly arrogant people who believe they really are better than anyone else...those people should be pitied, because simply from that assumption, it is clear that they really aren't superior to anyone anywhere. I didnt quite understand what you mean by cute. But let me just say pride comes before the fall. Arrogance just means the person is full of him or herself and that dosent have any positive outcomes to anyone. To take pride in oneself is one thing, but to walk the earth and to think that you are just too good stumble without looking where you are going... that is just sad.
I hope you know what I mean since reading this I think I sound kinda esoteric or something but cant think of any way to say it better. I hope you know what I mean since reading this I think I sound kinda esoteric or something but cant think of any way to say it better. |

I think that "Context" has allot to do with it.
Many things are odd in the modern generation of conversation. Humor is missed in so many places I begin to wonder if anyone remembers how to laugh. These days it is not uncommon to go to a comedy and see a theatre filled with people not laughing. (Not because the show is not funny. But because the people have a lack of responding to any stimuli. How they got accustomed to this behaviour is beyond me.) Then there is the "Telephone Tuff Guy" syndrome I see allot of internet users suffering from. And I have to agree it is not "cute" or interesting in any way. Wish I had more on the subject. Good Luck To All. I'm done. Stick a fork in me. Peace. Yeah, I see this a lot at the school I am currently going to. It honestly really annoys me. I don't understand it either. |

I think that it's with younger generations that arrogance comes across as attractive, particularly because at a young age, people are lost sheep and trying to fit in somewhere. The arrogant person is outspoken and outgoing, and people who have no direction flock to that because there is a chance to be led. However, as you grow older and you begin to see the reality, arrogance starts to lose its value. That is where self-confidence comes in. Self-confidence is not boisterous and obnoxious. It is a form of truth, a realization that you aren't perfect but that you are capable. Confidence, contrary to popular belief, is humble, because the confident man understands that the trials he's gone through were what built that confidence, what made him capable, and what will continue to bring him success. The arrogant man loses his arrogance over time, because he cannot keep the facade going forever. The confident man is steadfast and consistent. He is a leader.
