My old laptop crashed and burned and died (hard disk died by clicking)
So I had to get a new laptop but all the decent deals kept disappearing
It turns out they were being cleared for the release of Windows 8
So I had to get a laptop with Windows 8
I wanted Windows 7 as I am familiar with it and all the plug-ins work
I am unfamiliar with the touchpad look to access the apps
Plus most of the plug-ins for Firefox and Chrome aren't compatible
But the worst thing was trying to access saved files on the RGR plug-in on here as F4 in Windows 8 accesses the "Second Screen - Project to a Connected Screen" menu
(I've found that Shift-F4 lets me access the saved games in RGR
Anyone else experiencing problems?
Or does anyone have any questions about the new OS?

That F4 thing is a symptom of your laptop. There should be an option to switch your laptop specific keys with the normal keyboard function keys. Just look that up with the name of your laptop.

Anyway, I haven't tried Windows 8 since back in March, before it was finalized, but back then I liked it. I wasn't fond of the new start screen, but I'm still using olde style mouse and keyboard. I'm sure if I had one of those fancy gesture mice, a track-pad, or a touch screen I would have been fine with it.

Your old laptop: Please tell me you didn't just throw it out...

Thanks for the advice about my F4 key, I will look into it

I agree, it would be a lot easier with a touch-screen, it seems to have been designed with that in mind but, alas, I only have a mouse and keyboard

MY old laptop has not been thrown away, I am saving up to take it to a pc repair shop to retrieve the data on it and to see if they might be able to repair it
I was planning to get a new laptop and transfer the data but the old one crapped out on me 3 days before I got the new one
Murphy's law I guess
