I've been a fan of the series since I first played the GameCube remake of the first Resident Evil. I have every game in the main series up to Resident Evil 4, which is the pinnacle of the series in my opinion. I played the public demo of Resident Evil 6 when it came out on PSN, and... well... I honestly don't know what to think. On the one hand, it's nice to see the series finally put Leon and Chris into the same story, and to have Sherry make another appearance since Resi 2. And the story, while it might seem over-the-top, has its appeal to me, mostly because I want to see where it goes. On the other hand, my fan-sense is tingling, and it says "DEAR GOD WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!" Chris's campaign looks like Capcom tried to sell out and make a mish-mash of Call of Duty and Resi 5. And when I played the demo, it just felt... wrong. It's as if they tried to streamline the inventory from 5, and it didn't work. Also, the cover system and the aiming-while-on-the-ground felt awkward and clumsy. I appreciate that they tried to make the series more action-oriented, but it just didn't feel right to me. Does anyone else have an opinion? I'm willing to take any good advice anyone has to give on this game. I played the public demo of Resident Evil 6 when it came out on PSN, and... well... I've never played Resident Evil 6, but I will say that the graphics look pretty. I'll agree with you that Chris' campaign looks a little messy; Capcon needs to go back to its roots for Resident Evil (they should ask the company that made the F.E.A.R series for types on a survival horror shooting game.) I don't like the fact that they got rid of collecting Gold and instead are just getting Skill points for leveling (I'm also not happy that the Merchant from RE:4 didn't come back as he was just awesome.) I would say that if your debating buying or not buying the game, then you should maybe wait for the price to be lowered (or until the new patch comes out where Ada's campaign is playable from the start without having to do Chris, Leons, and Jakes campaign. Also where the heck is Claire? She hasn't been in a RE game since RE: Code Veronica and I'm wondering if she is dead. I've never played Resident Evil 6, but I will say that the graphics look pretty. AdamBlackthorne :
Iv read a lot of people say dont buy it. Personally if i buy it, ill buy it preowned, so they get no money, iv had it with capcom, honestly. Re5, i buy day it comes out, then when the playstation move comes out, they only allow move compatability with new versions. Then with the new one they launch with free exclusives to xbox. Just stick your finger up to me huh capcom? well you wont get any money from me anymore, i guarantee it, i will subvert them at every turn i can, because theyre starting to tick me off. Yeah, I really miss the good old days when Capcom didn't nickel-and-dime their customers. And the on-disc DLC for Street Fighter X Tekken made me sad. Really, locking out stuff that's clearly there, saying "Oh, you can pay for the other 30%. It's not like you already paid for the whole thing or anything." is a huge spit in the eye to their fans. And don't even get me started on what they did to Mega Man. But yeah, I guess I'll wait for the price drop and pick up a copy in a few months. Thanks for the replies. I have Resident Evil 6. Now, I have not played through all the campaigns yet. As you likely know, there are 3 campaigns. I have so far played through Leon/Helena's campaign. I dabbled in Sherry/Jake's. I am currently working on Chris/Piers' campaign. So far, I think it is not as bad as what people have been saying. I am enjoying it for the most part. First off, the aiming awkwardness is much better than the demo release. The cover system is still awkward. However, the cover system is not needed to beat the game on Professional difficulty, so I am not too bothered. I never use the cover system, so I don't even notice the awkwardness of it. As for the game play, you get a different experience depending on the campaign. I admit that Chris and Piers' campaign is so far my least favorite. So far, it really is just a super fast paced purely action shooter. That doesn't bother me, but I think they kind of focused less on the story and atmosphere than trying to make it a war zone. The enemies aren't really zombies in this campaign, which I was saddened by. The enemies in Chris and Piers' missions are very similar to the Las Plagas enemies. They all have guns or bladed weapons, and are organized. I think you will be very pleased with Leon and Helena's campaign. It takes a turn back to it's roots as far as survival horror atmosphere. It keeps the crisp and clean combat system that Resident Evil 5 had, but incorporated it with the dark and creepy feeling of the early Resident Evil games. Unlike Chris and Piers' missions, it isn't nonstop gun firing. Like the earlier games, you are moving through creepy environments that have enemies around corners. Best of all, we finally get zombies again! Though some can run, most are the good old fashioned slow walking corpses that we have grown to love. They are easy to kill when you are on your game, but it is extremely easy to get careless, which will cause you to get your *** eaten. Yay! If Chris and Piers' campaign were more like this, the whole game would have probably been a pretty big hit. I have not played through Sherry and Jake's mission enough to give you much of an opinion, but it looks like it has potential. I can let you know when I get farther into that one. Now, if you are only wanting to pay the price for a new copy if you are looking for the best Resident Evil game yet, buy a used copy. But I think it is worth it so far. I really enjoyed playing Leon and Helena's campaign. I also kind of like the Agent Hunter mode. This is a mode where you invade another player's campaign mission. You constantly respawn as common zombies. The downside, you are just as easy to kill as a zombie as the AI zombies. But you do occasionally get to respawn as a better zombie that makes it easier to make things harder for the player who's game you are invading. But even when you are regular zombies and you know you are probably going to get killed quickly, it was a pretty nice touch and was still entertaining.
