Thanks, felt like a decent way to go about things
I think my favorite thing about breakdancing is the versatility of expression in it. A lot of bboys and bgirls take a bit stylistically from salsa, house, and many other types of dance. I feel it's really a form that allows for a lot of expression or cooptation from any other backgrounds you have and allows you to focus on whatever you'd like to focus on because it's so diverse. There are so many great style-heads in the breakdancing community.
I think personally my form takes on a lot of balance when I breakdance because of my history previously to getting into breaking. I've only been bboying for a year and I've already taken half the time off because I got involved in it through gymnastics when I was away at college and when I transferred back to my home state I had a hard time finding the breakdancing community here because it's still so new and small here which was interesting to find out because the original scene I was introduced to was so big and coming home to a place where there is almost no power (that is to say power-heads as opposed to style heads) was something I was not used to. And actually I see myself as more of a power-head because of my previous background. I've got much better than average handstands and freezes, as well transitions and related things, than a lot of people who have been in the scene for a while, much less those who have been breaking for only a year. Lol. I definitely need to work on style a bit, but hey, power comes easy to me so I've had a huge leg up there.
Btw, there are people who breakdance extremely gracefully that I know of. I think the more common Canadian style with sweeps and such is a pretty good example of that =D I don't think it's all that calming to most people however because usually footwork is at a pretty quick pace and energy consuming and most power moves really take a lot of exertion. I suppose it is calming though in the sense that nothing really quite gets rid of negative energy for me better than heading outside and doing a couple quick flips but to each their own in that category xD
I like gymnastics basically because that's where I started I suppose. I guess it goes in the upsidedown and spinning category too
I really like tumbling more than anything else. Floor's what I love the most. Sadly my gym experience has always been a bit lacking as last year was the first time I really actually hit a gym and I haven't been able to even go to an open gym since moving back here. It's a little depressing but I'll always have what I started with: open field =] Gotta use whatcha got! Lol
