Metal Gear Online is a great multiplayer game with many game modes, and a character creation from appearance to skill set. To play it who had to sign up on Konami's website which is why many didn't bother trying it, it wasn't associated with PSN. Through Konami's store many expansion, DLC, holiday / event giveaways were available to players.

These were the types of Game Modes:
Deathmatch (DM) Play a free-for-all match with no teams.

Capture Mission (CAP) Race to capture KEROTAN and GA-KO targets. After capturing one of the targets, each team must take it back to their team's goal and protect it until the timer reaches zero to win.

Base Mission (BASE) Battle to control bases located throughout the map. The first team to capture all bases, or the team with the most bases when time runs out, wins.

Sneaking Mission (SNE)
One player controls Snake, fully equipped with OctoCamo! If twelve players join, one player becomes Metal Gear Mk.II and can support Snake. See wikia for details~

Rescue Mission (RES) Battle over the fate of GA-KO! The defending team guards GA-KO. The attacking team must bring GA-KO back to its goal to win. No re-spawning in this match type.

Team Sneaking (TSNE) A battle between two teams with different gear. The sneaking team is stealth-equipped and must eliminate all enemies, or bring KEROTAN or GA-KO to their goal to win. The defending team must defeat all enemies or keep KEROTAN and GA-KO safe to win.

Stealth Deathmatch (SDM) Stealth deathmatch is a game mode released with the MEME expansion pack. It is a free-for-all based game. It consists of every player in the game (16 max) equipped with Stealth Camouflage. -See wikia for extensive details.

Bomb Mission (BOMB) A battle to destroy or protect target areas on the map.The attacking team will claim victory if they can plant time bombs in the target areas and protect them until any one of them detonates.The defending team can win by protecting all of the target areas on the map until the timer expires.

Solo Capture (SCAP) All players attempt to hold KEROTAN for as long as they can. Whoever holds it the longest orhas had it the longest by the time the game ends, wins.
Race (RACE) 2 teams run through a set of 5 checkpoints with either GA-KO or KEROTAN.

Metal Gear Online shutting down June 12

Such a shame that MGO servers are shutting down. I've played some of the modes online and it was a pretty fun. I better jump on those expansion packs!!!

I had no idea this existed. I tried playing mgs4 online but it took like 2 hours for 2% patch, couldnt be bothered with that.

I wish here in the US we got a disc release like they did in Japan.
Edit: never mind, I am not entirely sure Japan got a disc release.

I had trouble downloading the patch as well, make sure to use Peer-to-Peer I think it was..

In any case I suggest having 3-5 Megabyte per second internet speed otherwise you might time out at some point, cause it will take quite a while. I went to my friend's house who had comcast to download it It took less than an hour.

I never got around to playing it.

The patch took too long to get.

UserMike : Just wondering did anyone ever succeeded on beating sneaking mission as snake ?It just seem impossible to beat it with a third person view since the online-enemy can see you from faraway the top down view won't work as much cause they can see the surroundings and see where snake is hiding from close by.

I remember playing this on MGS4 and thinking it was so much fun. Pretty sad now that it's going out and I don't even have the game anymore to be able to play it Worst part is that it's closing down on my birthday too .

I was shocked to here that. I went back to play 4 and was confused as to why I couldn't go to online. It was literally my first online game I played for console.

Had so many fun moments in that game like sniping with the SVD rifle and CQC haha
