I can agree with Lazlo to an extent. I only know enough about SOPA from what I've read in the past 20 minutes. The internet is sort of screwed up, and SOPA may get rid of a few big problems, but I somehow feel that a big chunk of the media and big corporations are going to use the hell out of it for their own ends. When it comes to some business, especially big ones, greed is a major factor. People want more money and power. Honestly I see these CEOs and whatnot as being old people who don't do much in life but maybe take a vacation to an island or whatever. I'm sure some of them don't use their money much at, being old and out of shape they probably couldn't do much anyway. That's fine. But when they do a tradeoff by wiping out competitors and keeping employee wage as low as humanly possible just to accumulate more money and power, as in wanting to control things with an iron fist, that's what irks me.

Basically, they would use the bill for their own selfish ends and not too take care of problems that have been affecting them. Much in the same way that some big companies used the bailout money a couple years ago to take vacations on island resorts and stuff instead of using it to give their employees extra paychecks to help pay for their bills and circulate more money into the economy.

The big corporations are basically the ones who are playing this whole entire SOPA thing out. They've been planning it for quite some time actually.

For example, CNET is owned by CBS, which is a major U.S. broadcasting company. Now if you notice that CNET Downloads has the availability to download torrent downloaders such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, and a few others I think. Therefor CBS, or CNET originally promoted torrenting, but now they are supporting SOPA, which is against online piracy(torrenting).

Coincidence? I think not.

It's all a part of their plan, to get all the money, and take control.

Watch this video about this:

But NONE of this stuff I'm telling you matters unless you complain to your congressman!

pi0x : Bit Torrent is just a technology. Downloading bit torrents in and of itself is not equatable to piracy. There are loads of legitimate torrents out there. SOPA won't stop torrenting, it will just alter your ability to access torrent sharing sites.

Oh also I read something interesting just yesterday that made it seem like SOPA won't even be blocking these websites, just their DNS entries, so Vizzed will still exist, but instead of going to https://www.vizzed.com, you'll have to go to http://97.74.94.166

Of course, I probably misinterpreted it.

Lazlo Falconi : Yes, I'm aware of all the legitimate torrents, but did the big companies that hosted the downloads for BitTorrent seriously expect people to use P2P software legally?

And yes, all the current version of SOPA can do is block the domain name, and has no power over the IP address. But that is still an inconvenience to the users, unless they all know it, or already have it bookmarked.

The current version of SOPA also cannot target .us, .org, .net, or any other non-.com, or non U.S. hosted domains. I think, they may have changed that.

So if SOPA passes get ready to go to www.vizzed.net! lol

pi0x : Actually SOPA can attack "foreign" web addresses since Verisign, the company that handles all top-level domains, is an American company, and thus subject to American laws. That's why people in other countries are so afraid of it.

Oh yeah and it can target ANY website it wants, if someone believes that it's harboring pirated downloads. Vizzed might actually be safe, considering it's a video game "Rental" boutique.

I can't believe MegaVideo and MegaUpload were taken down. This means a lot of things but what it means for vizzed is that the Retro Toon Room and officially been killed since all of the videos on there were hosted by MegaVideo. RIP RTR.

The Retro Toon Room is... really dead? NO!!! I mean, I haven't watched any shows in the Retro Toon Room but in my heart I feel deeply sad, and I see that some people who always go and watch some shows in the Retro Toon Room feel this way too. Well, I can't believe this threat, "the four letters of Evil" as I called it, is so unpredictable. It's unfair to do such a thing in this world. Where is freedom that we knew before, huh? Lost forever in the oblivion? I think so, guys, but let's hope now for the future.

Farewell Retro Toon Room, you made the day of a ton of members on Vizzed Board, so thank you for all your service, we will never forget you... RIP Retro Toon Room

Got some good news I saw on the news is that the bills are being postponed.  The government wants them to be totally rewritten to protect our rights but do what the bills originally want to do by stopping piracy.  So SOPA and PIPA as they are now will not happen.  We will have to wait and see what the new bills will look like.  We might or might not have to act again.  Good work everyone who pitched in against SOPA and PIPA!  We won this round!

Well as of yesterday the SOPA Act has been shut down by their main supporter, so the SOPA act is dead. http://mashable.com/2012/01/20/sopa-is-dead-smith-pulls-bill/

However the PIPA bill is still floating out there somewhere, so there is still that to worry about, but I think that its only a matter of time before that's pulled as well.

I told you it wouldn't go through. Everyone seems to be of the opinion that just because SOME politicians are stupid enough to propose such an idea, that all of them are stupid enough to allow it, but you've got to remember, these men and women have years of education, have been in business for well over a decade, and have loads of life experience by the time they get to the point where they can pass bills like this. They are not stupid, and even if they do not understand the technology they talk about, they are smart enough to listen to someone who does, and who knows that these sort of things will break the Internet.

Yeah, SOPA would be pretty bad for me if it did pass, since it would wipe out almost every single site I go to.
Luckily, SOPA was wiped out instead, Nya~.
Threat succesfully avoided :V
And yeah, dumb petitions and facebook movements and stuff like that wouldn't have helped in the first place, Nya~.

brandonrock : SOPA stands for the "Stop Online Piracy Act" and it gives corporations full right to decide what is and isn't piracy, and to shut down sites that carry copyrighted material on a whim. Since Vizzed's main source of new traffic--and thus users and ultimately income comes from the Retro Game Room, if someone at Nintendo or Sega or Sony decided that they didn't want Vizzed to continue renting out these games, they would shut down Vizzed, without even a warning, or a grace period to remove the infringing material. The site would just be gone.

Megaupload case is just more than I can grasp.

The men running it might get maximum 20 years in prison! I mean, how absurd is that?!?!

They're not a threat to society, quite the opposite, yet they're being treated as murderers.

Some people kill other people, rape, rob, etc and they might not get 20 years in prison.

Where's the logic?

Like, really...

American and Estonian law system is different I know. Here, they would get maximum 3 years in prison for intellectual theft.

But to send someone to prison for that, imo, is stupid. Prisons are for those who are dangerous for other people physically.

And SOPA-PIPA are literally a veto to culture!

I always find all kinds of different movies and music online, from some X country I have never heard of.

If they wouldn't be on internet, I wouldn't know. Plus, they don't import every country's music-movies-etc to every country.

So, if I want some African movie that's not available in my country I should go to Africa?

Yeah, like we all have tons of money -.-

Internet is so common now and it helps to spread art, music, ideas, you name it.

Paulo Coelho made a good post about it in his blog, read it: http://paulocoelhoblog.com/2012/01/20/welcome-to-pirate-my-books/

And because internet is as common as it is and not that expensive monthly, even families with not so many financial security can afford it.

Take down all the music and movies and by doing so they'll be creating a caste-system basically - culture only for the rich!

Maybe I'm a bit exaggerating, but. it really ..... me offf.
