I just watched the last (FIREFLY) episode I hadn't seen. A man died in that episode, protecting another man whom he'd held as a hero for years... When Jayne was mulling over the other man's death, the captain(Mal) said "Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need."
They needed a hero. They needed faith in something. "It doesn't make any sense." says Jayne.
In another part of the episode, the weird girl (River) is reassembling the bible. "Bible's broken. Contradictions, false logistics… doesn't make sense." "We'll have to call it "early quantum state phenomenon". Only way to fit 5,000 species of mammals on the same boat."
She, too, was looking for her own faith, and that was how she found it. The preacher objected. "River, you don't… fix the Bible." "It's not about… making sense. It's about believing in something. And letting that belief be real enough to change your life. It's about faith. You don't fix faith, River. It fixes you."
Later when she is seen again by the preacher, fixing the bible, she says "Just keep walkin', preacher-man.", and he does. That is her faith. That is how she comes to her enlightenment.
Those who feel attachment to the "physical things" of their faith, their necklaces and books, those people are in the wrong, for those "physical things" can be taken away, like prayer in schools. It is then, when they cause traumatic events and strife by objecting. Those types of people need to read the book "Fish!" and possibly its companions "Fish! Tales" and "Fish! Sticks". They are actually interfering with other people's salvation.
Certainly, it may take Science 10,000 more years to Find their Salvation (Believe me when I say, Everything Divine is Provable, and that is the nature of things)... But all you are doing when you say "You can't fix the Bible" is causing havoc, and rocking the boat. You may not believe it, but All Roads lead to Salvation. The straight and narrow one just leads there in this lifetime. And if you judge your neighbor, you are NOT walking that path.
If you have true faith... Your faith will fix you. It will make you, as Saint James puts it, "A perfect man; one who offends not in word".
And that is my sermon for today. (Sorry, I practice my faith on Wednesday, but I figured since nothing was posted last sunday, I might as well post SOMETHING, eh?)
