They provide 2 different things.... Ps3 has like better computer browsing and such, while with some games on the 360, the graphics outdo the ps3.

i prefer ps3 for a few reasons.
1:blue ray disks are many times larger than hd ones, so more data storage, better graphics, to prove this point they stopped making hd dvds and switched fully to blu-ray(and from what i heard not long after release of 360 and xbox microsoft were mulling over using blu-ray system for next console[that is unconfirmed id add])
2:internet browser(i never really got why xbox didnt have one, i hear wii also has one?
3.free online, it iritates me that xbox charges you yet you still need to pay an internet company, wtf?ps3 has released a pay version but you can get free games, betas, full game trials, themes and an idle patch downloader, plus its optional.
4:great compatability with ever growing apps, on ps3 you can use facebook, youtube, your email, love film(and buy/rent movies via that), i also hear they are releasing steam on ps3 and that games will be transferable via pc/ps3 which im major psyched about(not all games id imagine)

5:more reliable in terms of breakdowns.
6:you can switch your hard drive for a bigger one, xbox made it so you need an official xbox harddrive, you can just put a pc one in your ps3 and youre off.
7:blue ray means you can use pretty much any unofficial stuff, i was originaly using a mobile hands free blue ray headset with ps3, worked perfect.
peersonaly 'I' prefer ps3's exclusives but id prefer companies didnt bother with exclusives.

one thing i envy xbox has is that they have cross chat, so they can talk to people via headset that arent in there game or anything, i dunno why sony hasnt bothered yet.
At the end of the day its personal choice, all i need now is someone who has an xbox to say why they prefer it(preferably leaving fanboy comments on the side line like "ha, its got no games"because i could destroy said fanboy with a list of awesome exclusives.xbox has some nice exclusives too though, left for dead was fun)

catfight09: not to be fanboyishes, but thats a claim iv never seen proven, can you give me an example so i can investigate that?

thenumberone : the online is a nice feature I agree. I like how its eco friendly by using electricity to charge the controler instead of batterys like xbox.

Honestly, I would never purchase an X-Box 360, but it doesn't mean I won't play one. I really want to get a Playstation 3 though.

As I seen around the internet, both video-games have they strong spots and their weak spots.

But as much I had heard about both, I really prefer the PS3.

I prefer PS3 because I like their exclusive games over Xbox. If games are on multiple consoles I usually end up buying them for PC as you have more control over settings and have a mouse. I don't own an Xbox because I am not too excited about their exclusives, although I do want to play God Gears of War 3.

I have both and I have to say that I can't pick a side. The UI design, the achievement system and the community structure is much more solid on the 360; the game hours and achievements sync perfectly with Raptr's services. However, the hardware falls short in many aspects, due to Microsoft heavily restricting it.

For example, the 360 has proprietary everything. You need to get a Microsoft-brand hard drive, a Microsoft-brand controller, a special controller charging cord almost exclusively sold by Microsoft, and Microsoft memory cards. The membership for Live Gold on top of having games that require their own online subscriptions (Phantasy Star Universe for example) can get rather expensive after a while. The PS3 is very flexible; you can get inexpensive USB charging cords online that are not Sony-brand. You can also get virtually any hard drive from an old laptop or a fresh one from Amazon that can go up to 500GB, and it costs less than $100 USD to do so. To get a 250GB hard drive for the new slim, you'll have to shell out $100 at least. But Sony's console isn't without its flaws either, which brings us to...

Sony has proven that they can't run a network to save their lives. The PSN outage was a disgrace, and it's still not fully fixed after almost three months. Even when it wasn't hacked, PlayStation Network was often giving many people disconnects for no apparent reason, and having more than 100 friends sometimes makes your games crash from the server lag. Everything's unorganized, the UI is baffling at certain points, and things seem to be haphazardly tossed into baskets with labels in a shoddy attempt to "categorize" things. Their "welcome back" program was also a greedy marketing technique, because one of the top games in the program was having a sequel soon and they knew it would be a perfect advertisement for the second game.

As far as hardware is concerned, the 360's failure rate is terrible--although it's been alleviated with the newest model, and it's less of a problem. But earlier models were almost guaranteed to fail eventually. I'm just waiting for my 360 Elite to die at any moment. It's like playing gaming Russian Roulette. Every time I power it on, it's like a press of a trigger; it's bound to fire a bullet eventually.

The 360 initially had better exclusives, but the PS3 is proving to have some nice ones of their own lately. PS3 is more flexible in terms of hardware as well. Previously mentioned, the hard-drive upgrade process is inexpensive and easy. PS3 also has a cloud-saving feature for premium members, which the 360 doesn't have yet.

Ultimately, this means that both systems have their glaring shortcomings, and their shining strengths. Saying one is superior to the other is silly. It's also silly to keep having a debate like this. But I digress.

iBOCK : Microsoft has been hacked before, it just didn't get out like Sony's situation did. Also it is not all about online gaming on the PS3 because they make superior single player games. Everyone keeps going on and on about multiplayer... What will all of you do without the Inernet? Say your ISP went down for a while, would you be able to play your Xbox360 games offline?

PS3 hands down. the ps3 has free internet. you hafta pay for live. ps3 can play blu-ray and dvds. 360 can only play dvds. ps3s take longer to break. we got an xbox 360, and it broke in a few months. it was used and it may have broken before that. ps3 has better games. the only good thing about 360 is its nice and cheap. but, that cheapness comes with the ultimate price. the easiness to break.

I'll just address some things people are saying as the reason they prefer Little Jimmy's science project over Sam Bob's.

Pay to Play verses For Free:
People often use free as an advantage for most things. Something being free is sometimes a bad thing. For example, you'll notice they have some games on the PSN store for free for a reason. Same probably goes for the Xbox Live market place. The 360's Live service is actually worth the money, people just like a free service more.

The PS3's PSN service is great for what it is, and does what it does well. The thing is, PSN has no price, but many users make purchases on their PSN accounts because it has a store. You are still paying for something. You just have a choice to pay for the other features of the service.

The Red Ring of Death verses The Yellow Light of Death:
This is almost always something people will talk about when they say how the 360 is not their system of choice. It's understandable why people mention the Red Ring of Death, though. It was a result of early models of the 360 being faulty. A small percent of people that had a 360 to this day actually were affected by this issue, though. There's launch 360's in normal working condition still, as a matter of fact.

Oftentimes, the reason people end up with the Red Ring of Death is because the system got overheated or the person wasn't taking good care of the system. If you put it in a place that will increase chances of overheating, don't continue having the system in such a place unless you have no choice. Read the manual and carefully read the precautions and tips on how to have the system working for more than two years.

People have had dead PS3s as fast as some people have had a dead 360. The reason the PS3 isn't as known for dying easy is because Sony have more experience in making electronics than Microsoft does. Microsoft is mainly a software company, and they are still new to the console world.

That huge rant aside, let's start listening to me say things that will be debatable.

I prefer the PS3, and like the 360. I find more that I like coming out for the PS3, though. The controller is perfect for my small hands, and the online service is good for what it is. The system's exclusives actually are lacking to me as far as the more well known ones go, though. The easiest ones for me to like are the Ratchet and Clank games, and Sly 4, since it has been confirmed, and I know I'll like it. The inFAMOUS series is great, but I find it somewhat hollow. This issue seems to be something I find in most superhero free roam games I've played, oddly enough.

The Uncharted series is fun only one playthrough, at least for me it is. I like White Knight Chronicles, but the fact that it's mainly online driven, and the story is so bland that the characters are talking cardboard to me is a problem as far as my fun with it goes. Most of the exclusives are well-made, and good, but not all of them are of my interest.

The features it has outside of gaming and online are just features to me. I don't buy a game system to watch TV. I buy a TV to watch TV. I am very traditional in that I see game systems as not needing stuff like Netflix added in. I'm just old fashioned when it comes to multi-purpose devices, I suppose.

The build quality of the PS3 is very good. It's probably not going to survive being dropped, but why would you buy it as if it was a bouncy ball? There's a reason you keep call handhelds handhelds and home consoles home consoles, after all.

I'd say the PS3 is much better.
It's a bit more newer. And it has way more sells, and it has many more features.
