I just wanted to start a small debate about which console is better sega or nintendo .
i personally would have to say nintendo . here's a list of both consoles top 5 best selling games of all time to help u decide.

nintendo -

(1) Wii Sports (66.19 million) and other wii games
(2) Super Mario Bros. (40.23 million)
(3) Tetris (35 million)
(4) Mario Kart Wii (22.55 million)
(5) Super Mario World (20 million)

sega -

(1) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (6 million)
(2) Sonic the Hedgehog (4 million)
(3) Aladdin (4 million)
(4) Sonic Adventure (2.5 million)
(5) Virtua Fighter 2 (2.2 million)

I would suggest that it is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, I never actually owned one, when I had the opportunity to choose a machine I bought a Sega Mega Drive with the Menacer pack and a copy of Sonic The Hedghog 2 (the one with Tails).

I did love my mega drive and the addition of the 6 button pad and a better quality reproduction of Street Fighter was the clincher for me in deciding I had done the right thing in buying the Sega, but you know on reflection I really like Mario, so it has to be the Nintendo purely for Mario Kart and Super Mario world.

Since this thread is like a debade, I think it fits more to "Video Game Controversy" forum, than in general forum.

By the way, between these 2, I like nintendo consoles and games more. Wii is like a revolution in video games consoles, in my mind.

Both companies played such a huge role in my childhood video gaming exp. Asking to choose btwn the two is like asking which side of my brain I wanna keep, I just don't think I can do it.. Sorry?

I'm going to say Nintendo as well. They have a lot more good games than Sega. Don't get me wrong, Sega had a lot of good games as well, but most of them are underrated and were never recognized. As for Sonic and Mario...well, I would say Sonic. I like almost all Sonic games, and they never bore me at all, while some Mario games do.

Haha, like everyone else, I'm gonna have to resort to Nintendo. Sega used to be really good...then they screwed up with their Playstation/Xbox Sonic games. Plus, Nintendo brought us the SNES, which brought us Final Fantasy 6, of which is the GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME. As a matter of a fact, Nintendo *technically* brought us Final Fantasy. Other great games would be Metroid, Contra, Mario (of course), Link, and many other great characters.

Respect to both of them though, they're both really good companies.

I would actually go with Sega just because I love sonic. I also love nintendo way more now but if we are talking about the Genesis that thing was the bomb.

I will say nintendo, because I have not played very many worthwhile games from Sega in the past 3-5 years, and all their Sonic games now are the same thing with a slight twist in Plot, and it is far too repetitive.

I'll choose Sega. Sega has many great games, and they had what used to rival Final Fantasy in quality... until it went to online gaming. I'm talking about the Phantasy Star games, of course. Most games for the Genesis were underrated, but that's nothing to me. The Genesis had the games I liked better. Nintendo is starting to wimp out now, and be afraid of what parents have to say. Sega wasn't like this, which is something I like.

Sega's game systems are very well built, and will live long. Same goes for the Nintendo consoles, but the Sega consoles pretty much rival them. The Genesis was the better console when it came to games like top down shooters(Truxton!), and the arcade ports were great. The Super Nintendo had better hardware since it was released later, but the Genesis had many cult classics. It also was home to the sci-fi side of gaming. Super Nintendo was more fantasy oriented. If you look at the common themes for the games for both systems, you'll see a big difference in what genre plot themes they use.

I do like Nintendo, but the company's obsessive fear of getting a parent mad is just a big demerit for me. I'm very against censorship, and letting the fears of parents get in the way of creative ideas, though.

I'll have to choose Nintendo.
I grew up with Nintendo consoles only.
The only non-Nintendo console I have is my game gear, I kinda like it, but I love Nintendo.

I love Sega and all, but Nintendo wins in a landslide. There's no way Sega tops Nintendo, past or present. They were close when it came to the 16-bit generation though. I liked their franchises like the Sonic games, Streets of Rage, stuff like that. I had lots of memories playing both 16-bit systems, but when it comes to the present, Nintendo absolutely annihilates Sega, hands down. Sega is making somewhat of a comeback though... I'm liking what I see with these new Sonic games coming...

Having owned both Sega and Nintendo Consoles I'd have to say that I don't favour one console over any another. Instead I'd probably stick to rating games on individual merit because both have great games. I never got into the Playstation but I'm sure they'd have some great games also.

The only games I really play for Nintendo are The retro mario games. Sega has more entertainment as far as games go in my opinion. So my vote is for SEGA. SEGA OVER NINTENDO ANY DAY!!!

I like Nintendo better, they make better consoles and better games. Sure Sega created Sonic but that's the only truly mind-blowing creation they've made. Nintendo has made many mind-blowing creations in my opinion.

Both SEGA and Nintendo are and always will be the great innovators of the gaming industry, but my vote goes to SEGA.

such a flawed debate.... the games that were listed on the Wii came out SO much later than any of the sega games...

and super mario world was "sold" with every console that was sold....

it's not even a fair comparison.

Another vote for Sega. Even though games for Wii are newer than the Sega ones, those Sega games are still way better
