I doubt it.... most online scans I've come across find things and then tell you to purchase their software. You're better of downloading AVG free and Lavasoft Ad-aware in order to get rid of viruses and spyware.

Besides some of those are viruses
I heard about people, who got a virus through that way
You'd better get AVAST anti-virus (I think there is a free version too)
I have avast and it's perfect
If you can't get avast, then try AVG, but it's not as good as avast.

Hmm maybe you can go to an internet-cafe and use their PC to download the exe file. Save it to a flash stick and then execute the exe file to your PC
No need to download anything with your PC this way

Also note though that you should register Avast if you get it, registration is free but it lets you use the program for a whole year without it expiring.
AVG free doesnt need registering at all.

Now, some only virus scanners DO actually get rid of some simple things, you would have to try something like housecall by trendmicro.

The best way to get rid of all viruses is to reformat.
But I guess that didnt work out well for you so on to the next step.

noelia : The problem with installing an antivirus on an already corrupted system is that the install has a very high chance of being infected as well.
This is why the next best way to get rid of viruses from a PC is to use a bootable anti virus program.
I prefer a bootable CD as a virus cant access the program files like it can with a USB stick, but perhaps some people dont have any other option.

You will need to use a clean PC to download this as well as either a black CD or a USB stick with about 1GB of free space on it, just to be safe.
When you run this CD or USB stick with the rescue program on it on a PC it can help you get rid of all viruses properly.

Actually only one time I had a serious problem with my PC(it was a spyware(never allow friends to use your PC, without supervision), that my anti-virus couldn't get rid of it for me), so I went to a guy, who reformated my PC(for 30euros). The only good thing was that he gave me also lots of programs that I didn't have.

Another excellent free program is MalwareBytes. Again, download it to a flash-stick from a clean computer.

It depends on the program. Most of the ones I have installed on my computer do delete malware and all that other annoying stuff.

Key word there being that the ones you use are installed on your computer. The online scans are typically not installing anything, and at worst can simply be unreliable adware (like those banners that claim you're the 1,000,000th visitor to a site so they can sell you something).
