All of this talk about Nintedo is misleading and frankly - just flat out wrong.
I mean yeah - it's nice to think that hey, they've been doing this for a long time and they have a lot of mascot characters out there. Frankly, that doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. Nothing is ever the 'best' just because it has been around for a long time.. Nintendo built a powerhouse and it's going to take major inepitude for them to mess that up. All this talk about the Wii and its motion controls - seriously people? The Wii has been out how many years? And even with the additions made to the Wiimote there is still a lack of true 1-to-1 control. Pushing it as a Nintendo exclusive thing is a moot point anyways, now that Sony and Microsoft are trying their hand in motion control, with a bigger resource base and the benfit of newer technology to do it with. My vote has to go with Microsoft - who despite coming into the console game late, have done an amazing job at securing the games that people want to see on their console, creating an amazing online community (that while at times, filled with douchebags) is more functional than any other... and the list could go on and on with things that are just my opinion (functioanlity, controller, etc.) But frankly, I believe that nostalgia and the ready availibity of backlog Nintedo titles has swayed most people into choosing their side when it comes to what console is best today. Also, I'm tired of hearing that the possibilies with the Wii are endless. The console has shown time and time again that they are very much so in the form of endless. Natal is gonna go down the same road people say the Wii is traversing, just with better graphics. Also, I don't think you're paying much attention to people's posts . When they say they like Nintendo best, it's usually followed by a list of some truly great games, better than what Microsoft has to offer BTW, and you're translating it into nostalgia. And I'm hearing more "the next Nintendo System will have what the Wii lacks" (thanks, LK) kinda stuff than "Wii has so much potential, it really beats the PS3/360 out of the park" kinda stuff. You seem to be misreading people. Of all time, apsham, of all time: think about it, forget today's stuff, which did you like better before all this new-fangled stuff came out, before people judged games almost entirely by their graphics, and tell me you still like another company better. And as for Microsoft games, I've said this in another thread: give me a list of 20 amazing games only found on a Microsoft system. If you can come up with that many, then I'd be shocked. The reason for thinking Nintendo is a better company is not only because it's been around longer, but because time and time again they have pushed the gaming experience: The Gun for NES, the first mini-joystick, the first rumble pack, the first to use motion sensing as the primary controller. Not to mention games: Dragon warrior, Zelda, Super Smash, Mario 64, Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy. These games where HUGE in terms of creativity and pushing the boundaries.
I guess what I'm saying is I like innovation in ways other than better graphics, how creative. I guess what I'm saying is I like innovation in ways other than better graphics, how creative. |

If you're going to look at it like "Nintendo did all this stuff first" then yeah - it wins by default, and I hate looking at it that way because it just doesn't make sense to me. Yeah, the Nintendo 64 had the rumble pad - but the rumble on the 360 controller kicks its ass. And now that I've been pushed to think back and really think about exactly what games I liked in the past - I really have to say that growing up with Mario and certain RPGs are the only memories and experiences I would hold over what I've done with the 360 since I first received mine. And that just proves my point . You ignored the main part of my post, the real reason I said all that: you're misreading people.
Another thing that list proves: Nintendo knows better to whom they should cater. Out of all those games, casual gamers would play the Viva Pinata games, and maybe Forza, if they're into racing. However many of Nintendo's best games are designed so even casual players will enjoy them. And it's not like they're abandoning the hardcore gamers, just look at Metroid: Other M, that games' gonna be epic. However, they are catering to the larger, and just as important crowd of casual gamers, and that's something to be commended. If everyone catered only to hardcore gamers, the gaming population would die in only a few years. It's only a few short steps from enjoying games like Mario Party to checking out stuff like Metroid, and just a little further to games classified solely as hardcore... but you have to start somewhere. Someone totally new to gaming is most likely not going to jump straight for your Halo's and Gears of War's. In that way, Nintendo is also helping to build the community of Microsoft and Sony, as gamers graduate from casuals to hardcore. ...and I feel that Microsoft is doing absolutely everything better. I don't see how that's hard to catch onto, and really you're just taking everything that I say out of context or ignoring the "main part of my post" just the same by changing criteria to "oh yeah, games that casuals would like".

apsham I don't get what you're saying... how am I ignoring that? I am merely stating why I think Nintendo's doing better, and answering your point that Microsoft does everything better: they don't, Nintendo is a whole lot better at two things: Making reliable hardware, and bringing in new gamers. Granted, I didn't address hardware, but your list was the perfect segway into a point about the casual gamer. Even Sony is better about introducing people to video games than Microsoft, barely any Microsoft exclusives (that are actually fun) are aimed at people new to gaming, everything else is geared towards people experienced in the gaming world. Two large parts of the gaming industry, even bigger than hardcore games, are right under Nintendo's belt. I don't see that as Microsoft "doing absolutely everything better". |

I like Nintendo, but mainly because those are the type of games I grew up with. But I think Nintendo selling Rare to Microsoft was the biggest failure idea of all time! Game like Banjo-Kazooie, DKC, and many more were awsome! I hate they give us Donkey Kong games like Barrel Blast. :p Though being a huge Rare fan I liked it, and loved they brought back Lanky! But where's Funky? Where I ask you, WHERE! I also like that Nintendo makes one of my favorite series, Pokemon! But I still think that Nintendo was better when game systems like SNES, and N64 were in. Gamecube was good. I especially liked game like Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, and Pokemon Colosseum. But the Wii I thought wasn't their best work. I liked the games and all, but I still though they could of done better. Like on PBR, Pokemon XD was better than that, and had a story! The Dsi is good too, I liked the DSi ware too. So in my opinion Nintendo is the best company(but it was better in the old days). |

I really have to go with sony. I really love Nintendo and all, because, seriously, they created some of the most epic and iconic games ever. But I wouldn't be able to live without my PS2, and without Sony I wouldn't have Kingdom Hearts.
Even if I really do friggen love me some pokeymanz. Even if I really do friggen love me some pokeymanz. |

Nintendo is the best even though they are mostly making repeats right now. Eventually one of the others might take its place but not for awhile yet. |

Nintendo for 1985-2000, NES and SNES were great systems that beat out even the PS1.
From 2001-2010 It is partially Sony and Microsoft because PS2 was the greatest system ever created and beats PS3. XBox 360 is the best of all next-gen consoles. PS3 was a great disappointment. The Wii might be popular to casual gamers, but casual gamers are the reason that the game industry is going down hill. All companies nowadays are catering to fit casual gamers and not putting their heart and soul into the games they make. Definiely microsoft. sony had 4 years on microsoft and when microsoft came out with the original xbox it had networkin standard. In fact sony had no plans for online play until xboxs started sellin by the millions but by that time xbox was giving sony a run for their money. so wat does sony do? they come out with a network adaptor which is 100 bucks and is completely unreliable. microsoft may have released the xbox 360 too early but if u look at the 360 compared to ps3 the only thing the ps3 has is bluray. the 360 has three processors whereas the ps3 has one and the ps3 chooses to not use all of its power because 90 % of its games cant go to 1080p. microsoft is smart they charged people for xbox live and with that profit they have made the best online experience ever. besides microsoft has halo, gears, alan wake, pgr, fable, and fuzion frenzy. Also even though sony was around first microsot has blown right by them with the new project natal. Its going to be rediculusly intelligent and advanced and plus sonys even trying to copy it with a new camera system but it wont even compare. |

chugchu : "the gaming industry is going down hill"? Do you mean in terms of how fun YOU find the games, or do you mean in terms of how successful it is? Because Video Games are now a HUGE industry and will continue to get bigger and more mainstream. Although to hard core gamers this might sound bad, the bigger and more popular something gets, the more variety and competition for excellence we have. (though there will be an increase in crap games too, comparable to Rap in the popular music industry) |

I would put my money on sony because every game I bought from them is a pretty good, quality game that you just can't get on the xbox. |
