The 1960s was when a lot of really interesting things started happening. As a result of the early experimentation with recorded music and new genres and styles that quickly took hold, we saw the beginning of the rise of rock music through early musicians like Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and The Ventures, while the industry saw some of its first mega stars such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and the Beach Boys. In other scenes we saw the rise of very early progenitors to punk rock through artists like The Velvet Underground and The Stooges. Artists like The Doors popularized psych rock, King Crimson and Pink Floyd started progressive rock, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen changed folk, while Frank Zappa did all sorts of strange things with rock and jazz. Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and Aretha Franklin defined the soul that we know. The most famous jazz musicians continued to blaze trails with various different experimentation.

What's your favorite music from the 1960's? It could be a band's activity during that time, an album that released, or a few songs you liked from the time.

For me, my favorite album of that decade has got to be The Velvet Underground & Nico for its grit, authenticity, and darkness, alongside sharp and sometimes screaming guitar sounds that sound like the band is going off the rails.

Oh wow the 1960's had groovy music its hard to begin. I generally liked all music from the 1960's to be honest but If I had to pick some it would be the following.

I liked the British Rock- Bands/artists like The Dave Clark 5, The Animals, Rolling Stones, Petula Clark, and Donovan were some of my favorites. I found the songs to be upbeat.

I also liked the Motown Sound- A lot of the Motown songs were just groovy and fun to listen too.

Pshycadelic Rock was good it as it was something new. It was like the took the British Rock sound and put more instruments to it.

Instrumentals- who could not like the instrumentals the 60's was full of them. I really liked how a lot of them used brass instruments

Starting in 1967 the soft rock sound started to come out. Bands like Tommy James, The Association and Chicago started to introduce a new sound. This type of Rock was softer than the others yet the songs were terrific.

Some of my favorite 1960's songs
Glad all over by the Dave Clark 5
Bits and to pieces by Dave Clark 5
Because Dave Clark 5
Rising Son by the Animals
Its my life by the Animals
Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones
Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones
Sign of the Times by Pet Clark
SunShine Superman by Donovan
Wear your love by Donovan
Standing in the shadows of love by the Four Tops
Reach out by the Four Tops
Get Ready by the Temptations
The Happening by the Supremes
Nowhere to run by the Vandellas
Never My love by the Association
Windy by the Association
Crystal Blue Persuassion by Tommy James
Sweet Cherry Wine by Tommy James
Questions 67 and 68 by Chicago
Soulful Strut by Young Holt Unlimited
Blue is Blue
The Horse Cliff Noble

The only song I can confidently say I know from the 1960s is Hang On Sloopy the official rock song of Ohio I of course associate the song with Football because of the best damn band in the land playing it but one time I was watching this Japanese live action show and the song played during the first episode and I was really surprised to hear it and I thought it was an interesting choice of music.

I can’t think of much music from the 60s that would be on my playlist other than Beatles but that’s too easy. Then I remembered this one song I used to play at times whenever I thought about my now ex when we were together. “Brown Eyed Girl” used to be played most of the time when I’m driving or whenever I think about her but since years gone by I rarely listen to it. It’s a good song and used to been a favorite but to forget it… there’s a reason.

becerra95: I understand that. Some songs we like when we first hear them. But then when a relationship ends and a song reminds of us of that person it changes things greatly. Brown Eyed Girl is a catchy tune sung by Van Morrison. I like the guitar solo in it.
