I stopped watching WWE awhile ago. For a few reasons. First a lot of my favorite wrestlers I watched when I was younger have died or retired. I just cannot get into the new wrestlers. Second, the story lines were just boring. It seems like WWE went down when it went PG. I get it they are trying to be family friendly. But originally the show was not meant for young children.
According to several wrestling sites. Stephanie and her Husband Triple H had been frustrated at times with Vince. They wanted some new ideas, new story lines and etc but Vince always nixed their ideas. Then Vince got caught in a cheating scandal. He paid 4 women millions of dollars to keep hush hush about their affair.
The board which consisted of Kahn, Stephanie, Triple H, Shane and others. Said it was time Vince stepped aside. Stephanie was put in to run the company and most likely be Vince's Successor.
Vince decides to come back and basically does a hostile takeover. Vince is majority owner and he can actually do that. Reports are that under Stephanie and Triple H WWE was making money again, attendance was up, and my friends who still watch have stated that the content has improved.
Now Vince wants to sell. This is why Shane and Steph have resigned their high positions. Potential buyers include: Disney, Saudi Arabia, Liberty Media, AOL Time Warner or somebody else.
Here is my own take on this.
Vince resigned due to the scandal. Stephanie established herself as good CEO and showed she could run the company. Under her leadership WWE starts to make money, gain viewers, and things improve. Vince's ego could not stand that. He could not stand that somebody else even a family member was doing things better. Therefore, he comes back, again he is majority owner so he can even with a board of directors. McMahon owns 70% of WWE well above the 50.1% threshold set by law. Therefore, Vince in an attempt to stick it to his daughter and son in law is going to try and sell.
This is more of revenge on Vince's part. Just my opinion though
