I feel as if there isn't enough football discussion on this board (European football you know, the real kind :p). So I figured I'd remedy this by making a thread on the progress of the champions league.

My top predictions for who will win is either PSG or City. With the form both teams have been in recently, I think they've shown the quality of play needed to win. Both have something to prove as they haven't won the champions league before, and I think particularly in PSG's case, there's a lot of hunger being a young team.

As a Spurs fan, I'm hyped for the match with Borussia Dortmund on wednesday. That last clutch run to qualify for the knockout phase was legendary in and of itself and proved that anything is possible. If we can return to the kind of form we had before becoming plagued by a bunch of injuries I think we will have a very good chance of making it far this time around.

Enough from me though, I'm curious to hear what thoughts other football fans on vizzed might have. Do share.

My personal prediction is PSG as well. We (United) play them next week, and I think we have a chance. However PSG have loads of talent, and most importantly they play in a weak league which they dominate pretty much every year. So they can focus on the champions league and play weakaned sides in ligue 1. City on the other hand are in a title race with Liverpool, so they're gonna have to focus on both fronts. And without any backup to Fernandinho, I think they won't go all the way.

I'm not a big fan of either kind of football, only futsal, but I guess I'll have to root for the Spanish teams.

Barça should definitely have chances again this year. They're showing quite a good shape, despite a few scares at Copa del Rey where they didn't play with the full artillery. I'd also like Atlético de Madrid to repeat their feats of recent years, I personally believe it's the greatest team yet to win this title and they need to remedy this once and for all.

Real Madrid is showing a very poor shape this year. The coach change hasn't brought much more hopes to turn things around, but you can never let such a legendary team down. This is probably the greatest title to win, excluding national team competitions, so they will try harder for it. After all, they have a lot of ground lost in La Liga, so one less thing to worry about makes them more dangerous.

Outside of the national quota, I'm also rooting for Bayern Munchen. I personally believe it's a very potent team, and they deserve better results than what they've been getting in past years. They'll play against Liverpool, though, and head coach Jurgen Klopp has faced Munchen many times during his tenure coaching Borussia Dortmund, so the first tough battle is set.

Tsiuu : It's true that them being uncontested domestically might affect things. I feel as if a lot of hype has been building around PSG's participation in the champions league recently so them winning it would be fitting. That assumes that they don't eventually cave under the pressure though.

EX Palen : Barca would definitely be my 3rd pick, they've been in good form recently per usual and have yet to lose a single match only barely drawing with Inter and Tottenham after a clutch effort from both teams where Barca was still the dominating force. I put City and PSG ahead simply because they have more to gain from winning which I think could be a deciding factor. I also agree about Real Madrid being disappointing recently, I doubt they will have the strength needed to pull themselves back.

Rip Dortmund, absolutely destroyed by Vertonghen and Lloris. Spurs haven't been in the best form in their recent premier league matches but so far the final stage of the champions league is kicking off with a bang. City will be a tough opponent but far from impossible now that we have some of our key players back.

A lot of good matches in the round of 16. Ajax making that surprise turnaround against Real is not short of legendary. While one could blame that on Real for not being on their game I think a lot of credit has to go to Ajax's current team, especially that last free kick goal at the end by Lasse Schöne. Manchester United turning around to beat PSG was also pretty impressive to see though I had feeling going into the match that something big could happen. I've always liked Lukaku so it's nice to see him finding his form again. Solskjaer quickly establishing himself as a man who could bring United back into contention for the top titles.

Tottenham is through and I bet and won on 4 of the qualifying matches, at least for the moment this is going well

The Ajax turnaround was totally epic. The internet lost it with how Ramos missed that match for forcing a yellow card in the match before in an attempt to cleanse himself for the next rounds. ManU also had their dose of epicness, being able to turn the tide with their B-team or even C-team.

This could probably be one of the most open Champions League in recent years, because no one has really shown to be a dominator and are mostly affected by their domestic affairs, either negatively or positively. Also, there are several teams who have yet to win the title and a few others who have gone for decades without winning it, so it will be very interesting to follow.

Such a shame that Atletico won't be in the ballot. They put a lot of effort trying to get an advantage over Juventus, but in the end they demonstrated why they're a powerful title contender and turned things around with deadly precision. I only hope that they don't get rid of Simeone just yet due to poor results, mainly in the Liga where they're now 10 points behind Barça.
