Hey everyone! Just thought some of you might be interested in knowing that there is a way to make games for a small fee (idk how much it is). Anyways, the program is called BYOND. Now I'm still a free member on this, so I am unable to make games playable for others to join in on. If anyone needs any help with iconning or has an idea for a BYOND game please let me know.

Have fun!

there are many other game engines that are better than this. Also BYOND is only for windows which almost cuts in half all the other players who play in Mac or Linux.

Eh. Byond is alright, but yeah I wish it had Mac and Linux support because some of my friends can't use it.

Wow, Byond brings back so many memories. Such a shame one of the games I used to play there doesn't seem to be live anymore...

I personally think that Byond has grown outdated. It may still be an easy-to-use tool, which could be perfect for people to start from scratch, but if it remains the same as when I last checked it, the games are so simple that only a handful of formats can actually be successful. They may still have very good games that rival official ones (DMG was far ahead of any other YGO game out there, I liked it more than YGOPro), but you must dig them up between many others who failed in their adventures.

Given their long lifespan, Byond could be seen for game makers what Vizzed is for game players: a stepping stone that gets you started in the world and from which you can jump to create your own path. Just like some people here eventually use their experience with emulators to reach out to emulators by themselves (mostly progressing to the emulators this site can't handle), Byond may also be the test field for those who have their mind set on higher goals.

It does seem like kind of an interesting concept, albeit a limited one. It kind of reminds me of RPG Maker with the level of limited capabilities it's got, but I don't know entirely for sure because it's only got Windows support when it comes to actually playing the games. Regardless of its capabilities, it seems like something that would be a great stepping stone for an aspiring game maker to learn the basics, as others in this thread have pointed out.

One thing that really puzzled me, though, is that they do offer a Linux client...but it only supports making games and not playing them. Most things that have Linux support do it completely the opposite way by only supporting the games and not the development environment...I would've thought that the development environment would be many times harder to port to a different operating system than the game engine itself, but I'm not the one who designed it, so I have no idea. Now that I think about it, it's kind of similar to Vizzed in another way, by relying a lot on Windows-only software with no port to other operating systems looking likely in the near future.

I never heard of this until now but I checked it out and I kind of like it. I might give this a shot myself and try to make a little game when I have the time and energy.

I was looking at all the different templates and I really liked the one for RPG's so I think I might give that one a shot.

But who knows I might spend hours trying to make something small and simple but fail miserably.

I mostly used BYOND to play a bunch of Dragon Ball Z and Naruto fan mmo's. I haven't messed with it for a couple years now, I might try to go back and see if any of the games I played are still going.
