Ace Attorney ~ beta review.   Furret
This is a review for the game: Ace Attorney (beta)
Keep in mind, this is a beta, it is not complete, and if I say stuff not included by accident, it's because the full game is one of my favorite.
The beta is basically the first case from the third game in the series, Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations. Although the second case is included, there are many bugs with it. I'd see this more as something you would use to 'get to know the series'.
Let's start of,
Graphics:    7/10
The game has pretty decent graphics, especially for the console it is played on. The moving screens go pretty smooth, and it is definitely a joy to see. The characters' moving mouths correspond to the speed they talk, and many more.
My experience: Sure, it isn't perfect, however I find the graphics to have high quality. It is a little glitchy at some points, but overall, pretty good.
Sound:    9/10
For the amount of gameplay in the beta, the sound is perfect. All the music played fits the scenario very well, the characters well (although there really aren't that many) and just overall has a high quality. I can't say one negative thing about it, except there's not that much music and such. (this is a beta, after all)
My experience: Very enjoyable. To my shame (?) I admit that the cornered theme was my ringtone for a while. Just how much I love it. The objection theme kinda references to the original, but I won't go into detail about that.
Addictiveness:    8/10
This number is not decided on the amount of gameplay, but rather on the amount of fun a person can get from this game.
I find the game to be quite the addictive one for what it has to offer. Finding the truth could take a progress of time, logic, and memory. All the more reasons to why it is so fun. And the result is definitely worth it.
My experience: Yes, I have played all the games in the series (at least the main games), and I'm sorry if part of my judgement comes from that. But honestly, the games are so fun to play through, solve cases, break testimonies, saving clients. And you do all your work for one goal, which is worth to achieve: True justice.
Story:    10/10
What a number. Is it worth it? It sure is. The story is what makes the game (sort of). The plot, the outcomes, predictions, it all gets tied in a big circle. Without one, all the other ones would collapse. I'll give the prologue:
It starts of with a scene. In it, you can see two students talking with each other. Talking about a girl. One of them (I'll refer to him as John) knows her well, the other (I'll refer to him as Peter) doesn't want any negative stories about her. As John is about to tell Peter a dark aspect about the girl, Peter can't take it anymore and pushes John. There is a big *SNAP*, and the screen zooms in to Peter, who is looking really shocked.
Yeah, what a scene.
My experience: What can I say? All the things I would say about the story has been said, just remember it is the most important aspect of the game.
Depth:    3/10
It pains me to give this such a long score, but a beta is a beta. I'll say as much that the complete AA:T&T has 5 cases. One of which is fully playable here, one more which is playable, but full of bugs. Practically all I can possibly say about the game's depth.
My experience: Depth is something neutral for the series, as all the games have about the same amount of gameplay. 5 cases (sometimes 4), all of which get longer until the end.
Difficulty:    5/10
And even more low scores :-/   The beta only has the first case, which can be easily completed by the average ace attorney fan. However, if this is your first experience with the series, it can be quite hard. Especially the last testimonies.
My experience: As it is my favorite series, I can say I am somewhat 'skilled' at the games? So the first cases aren't that hard for me, but enjoyable non the less.
Overall score:    8.8/10
Overall, if you are new to the series, this beta is great to learn the kind of gameplay you will be facing. If you have played any of the complete games, not so much. I would see the game and the series as a 'hit or miss'. You either will love it, or not be interested. I think the gameplay is unique to other games, and worth to give a shot.
But most of all, I hope this will inspire people to check out the series, as it is definitely worth your time.

Playing this game feels wright! (get it)   SuperCrash64
Welcome to my review of Phoenix WrightAce Attorney 3.
Keep in mind This is a beta and some parts can be buggy.
What I know about the game and what made me want to play it:
I was bored on vizzed one day, so I went ahead and looked to see what my friends were doing. I caught one of my friends playing this game, and It sure sounded interesting. So after playing it for quite a while, I know now, if there's any game that deserve quite the review, Then look no further then a game like Phoenix Wright ace attorney 3. With that said, let's get started on the review.
Graphics: 10
I never played any of the other games, so this one being the first. This one looks very good for the time it was released. Each of the characters had a lot of nice detail to their story pictures, and The Main characters themselves remind me of anime characters, Because they kind of feel that way. They looked nice stylish and very well animated for this title.
Sound: 9
Now some of the sounds aren't bad at all, although there is little variety to the characters sound here and there, for an example you may only here the main characters when they say Objection or something like that. I thought the music in particular sounded very nice, it fitted very well with the diagloues within this game, and to me it makes the game feel more special, but at last. I have one complaint, and that's the testimony theme, The only complaint about the testimony theme, is that it does sound pretty depressing to my taste, otherwise I would have rated sound a 10.
Addictiveness:5 out of any judgement I can give for a title like this, I can at least say. It's a game I recommend to play at least every once while, because I didn't find the game too exciting to play.
Story: N/A Now there is various stories within the game, but I Can't reveal them all, because of spoilers. But the least I can do is explain that like any crime/solving related thing, It starts out with a victim, has a client, two lawyers that being a defense and a prosecution. Each of the characters have various lengthy stories, as well.
Depth 10:
I felt the depth needed a ten, because this sir's is no game that you can easily fly through. Example: The Masters of this game, and Phoenix Wright titles, will Know that there is a various pattern for solving each case. They'll most likely know it starts out with plot, an introduction, then the main game begins, when you start your cross examination. The Cross Examination is by far the most fun part of the game in my opinion. I haven't exactly gotten far yet, I'm at part 2 of the first story, and I can't exactly finish up the last few questions.
Difficulty 10:
While the beginning Maybe easier to figure out. This is no guessing game. You have to know the diagloues, people, and research by heart. There's a reason for this: is because during your cross examination you have to find lies that have some involvement with the evidence or profiles. If you just guessed randomly half of the time you'll most likely get overruled by the judge. 2nd part's question is quite a bit tricky, and Quite frankly I still haven't figured that part out yet. So thus this is why you need to study those diagloues hard.
Overall: 8.5 This isn't a bad game at all, it's just not one of my main games, but at last if your into titles like these, I highly recommend you check this one out.

I take back everything I said about pokemon being the worst g   Jim Profit
With the title, you know it's going to be a bad review, but I don't like to just hurl criticisms without good reason, and I certainly do not want the hacker to think this critique has anything to do with him. From what I can tell, this is purely a translation. no alterations, and even if there were alterations, it couldn't really have been that far from the original as to make it that unbearable. In fact, I think the most impressive thing about the entire game was the hacker's translation scripts. And to do that good of a job between computer language AND human language, was very professional and I give him props.
GRAPHICS: 7.
The graphics are not half bad. Though there's very little animation or activity to speak of. Mostly just an interactive book. But the artwork of the characters is unique and vibrant. I'm sure this was done by design. I don't usually like the ironic humor, but this was done with some class inserting Street Fighter looking characters, with all the poses and demeanor, into a completely serious and white collar setting like court hearings.
SOUND: 2.
The sound may not necessarily be the worst, but as repetitive as it will get reading over the same thing multiple times, it will eventually become nothing more then a screech against your ears. Honestly it got to the point where I just took my ear piece off and read it, rather then having to hear the same sounds over and over again.
ADDICTIVENESS: 1.
Now we're getting into the details, and I have a lot to say because this is actually my first real experience with Phoenix Wright, and I've wanted to play this game for a long time being interested in becoming an attorney myself. I have to say that while the game is some ways gets the feel of being a lawyer down packed, it spirals out of control into a game of bad controls, horrific dialogue, and unsatisfying gameplay.
For example, why would I want to even play the next mission, let alone the entire game over again, when every time I fail to interrupt the diatribe of chatter in-time, I have to start over? My impression was that as an rpg, you would earn momentum of some sort during each court battle. Almost like Mass Effect's speech bubbles, with varying degrees of success to them. This says a lot about how bad this game is when I have higher expectations from hentai games.
Instead it's completely dependent upon the interrupt toggle. To quickly press that whenever possible, and accumulate some random, unimportant extra dialogue. It won't do you any good. This isn't a memory game. When the time comes to give a roaring defense or persecution, you don't pick the dialogue that sounds the most accurate, you basically take whatever "evidence" the game has given you and then try to paint them a picture out of a few rubber bands and paperclips.
STORY: 3.
They would be interesting cases if the dialogue were more thought. This is another element of the game that disappointed me. Being an attorney, but having little to no control over the progress of the case, let alone being able to decide which cases you involve yourself in. It could have a lot of role-play potential that high stakes cases have great rewards and risks, hindering or escalating my credibility as an attorney. Almost like a high score and could potentially be an attribute that allows me to unlock new outfits etc. Instead, what I'm left with is a very narrow advancement, that really I don't even have to read or do anything. I just press buttons and eventually it will solve itself.
DEPTH: 2.
It's hard to ruin a concept that involves the infinite spectrum of the law and arguing for or against someone who broke it, but somehow it was managed. Even the first case seemed to go out of it's way to prolong itself. I'd rather "die" or however you want to refer to a game over then have to read the same line and arguments one more time. It's that bad. And in reality I like the character portrayals of a high tempered rookie who struggles to keep her composure but has a good heart, versus the snide, intelligent, veteran attorney who the judge has a clear favoring toward, but it's that opponent's arrogance that will be his undoing as he overlooks blatant clues and contradictions in the testimony.
DIFFICULTY: 1.
I honestly did not know how to rate this. There is no difficulty on the game's end. Only your end and your willingness to put up with it. I mean really, if you have the patience of a Saint and feel like sitting through those speech bubbles for hours on end, you'll have no problem. But for me, the patience begins to dwindle the moment I see I'm having to watch carefully every opportunity just to get a new sentence rather then any game play to speak of. I know it's not an action game, but with all the flamboyant characters, the slapstick cases, and the common reaction of attorney's losing the jury/judge, I expected a game much more involved in the player's personal choices and responses. So yes, I kind of what expecting a memory game, plus several retorts per segment of an argument, and ultimately a verdict reached within fifteen to twenty minutes.
Perhaps I set my expectations too high. After all, trying to incorporate all those things I mentioned would take time, and could never really be perfected. However, it just feels like all the potential was squandered, and if not for the fact it's such a well beloved game, I probably would not give it such a cruel review. But from what I have seen, it's tedious, it's puts you into a bind of reading over the same dialogue which is never acceptable, and it makes every attempt to take away that feeling of influence on the player's part. It's like it doesn't want "ME" to play the game... it just wants me to sit there and watch the A.I talk to itself and play against itself. If I just wanted to observe the A.I. battling itself, there are plenty of other games that can do that, and do it much better.

Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney 3 (English beta 0.03) Game Description

This preview patch translates the first couple of hours of the game, but it's enough to give you a feel for how the game progresses. It's worth noting that even at this stage the hacking already looks remarkably clean and comprehensive.

Case 1 is translated and fully playable!

Case 2 is translated, but may be buggy.

I didn't realize Ace Attorney has been around since the GBA days... Might have to try it out and see what I'm missing :P

If there's still a glitch don't expect them to fix it, I looked this game up. And Due to the official NDS release of Trials and Tribulations they cancelled this project.

Still wish the whole translation was available on here. It sure would be fun to be able to play through the GBA version. I've heard it was different than the DS version in a few ways.

Same here, Shard_Flame. I then just sped through the talking and it worked.

Aha, I didn't have to lose on purpose. :D But it froze at his apartment, after I interrogated his wife. :(
SuperCrash64 12-13-13 - 10:25 AM
The only games that were actually original on the Nds: is apollo justice, miles edgeworth investigations 1 and 2. All the other games are exact ports of the gba game, expect that they are fully translated.
SuperCrash64 12-13-13 - 10:23 AM
It's not taken. The diagloue's are all the same, The only difference between them is language wise. If it was taken: The objection's would also be translated into english, but unforunately, They still have their original japanese soundbites.
Gabe Puratekuta 12-03-13 - 03:52 PM
If anyone here's interested: The DS version is a port of this and I'm pretty sure the translation is taken from it as none of the characters have their Japanese names
SuperCrash64 10-01-13 - 03:02 PM
Objection overruled as case 2 is glitchy and unplayable. Think about it again.
wonderboy03 09-30-13 - 04:32 PM
OBJECTION! As the evidence clearly states, this game happens to be victim of overly good gameplay! TAKE THAT!
Polopower 08-31-13 - 04:13 PM
Too bad the objections aren't in English... Still, good translation
