Battletoads NES review   SacredShadow
Graphics: 10
I think the graphics in this game are pretty good and very clear as well. NES did a great job on this game with the graphics, everything is so clear and the game background itself is perfect and things actually move like they really would and I think it is amazing. The graphics are simply amazing in this game and I think it is some of the best I have seen in NES games. I think the graphics are very well done in this game and I really enjoy them. I scored them a 10 because it looks like a lot of time and effort were put into making them so detailed and nice.
Sound: 10
The sound of this game is amazing, I think it is just great to hear the unique music on each level, it is just so fun to hear, how can you not like it? I think the quality of the sound and music of this game is really amazing and it makes you want to really get into playing the game because it is just so awesome to listen to. I think it is especially good because the music changes for each level and all of it is catchy and fun to listen to and I think a game with catchy music is awesome to play and worth your time. I scored the great sound of this game a 10 because it is awesome, catchy and it changes to a new little tune every level. It is just great to listen to and enjoy.
Addictiveness: 7
Despite the fact that there are a lot of pulling features to the game that might make you want to play it, but to be honest, it is a little hard to play, it is very challenging as well which can be good for some games, but I found it hard o do well on this game on some of the levels, it was really frustrating at times and even with 3 continues and extra lives, it was still tough and I ended up starting over many times because of how hard it was to do well in the game. It is lengthy and there are many levels, and with each one very challenging, it is kind of hard to be addicted when you might have to start over so many times after coming so close, so I gave the game a 7 for addictiveness, it has great qualities, but it is just a tough game to play.
Story: 6
Okay, the story for this game isn't really super great, it is pretty simple, the dark queen captures the princess and one of the toads depending on who you play and you have to rescue them by going through a whole bunch of challenging levels, it is a pretty simple story to follow and there is nothing particularly special about it. I think the story is pretty good and simple to play, it also makes the game entertaining, so I scored it a 6 overall because it is pretty basic and easy to follow. Not really anything unique or special about the story though.
Depth: 10
This game offers a lot to do and it is very challenging, each level is different and they all have new challenges. This game is huge with all of the stuff you have to do to beat the game, with 12 levels total, there is much to do and explore in this game. Each level leaves you with lots to do and it will take a while to successfully complete each one because of the challenges in each one. You do a lot of stuff like ride on hover boards and surf through some levels, it is very exciting to play but it a little tough to do. The stuff you do in this game is very unique and I don't think you can get bored of it, it never gets old and it is always fun to do. I scored the depth of this game a 10, there is just so much that this game offers, which makes it tough at times when you are going through each level, but I think it is fun and leaves you with lots of hours of great play time.

Difficulty: 10
This game is very tough and there are lots of things in all of the levels that will make you lose a life. I find it hard at times to complete a level because of all the challenges in each one. This game deserves a 10 for difficulty because you have to be swift and quick in many parts of the game if you want to survive and not lose a life,  it can be very hard and I cannot tell you how many times I have died on this game because of hard the levels are and how perfect your movements have to be in order to survive. I have played this game many times and despite that I still find this game challenging to play, especially the last level which I have only gotten past 1 or 2 times because of how hard it is to move perfectly. This game is meant for those who are looking for a challenge and lots of levels. I rated the difficulty a 10 because it is more than challenging enough to try to play and let alone win the game, so it will require great skill and you will be stressed out at times, but nevertheless it is a challenging, great quality game to play.
Overall: 8.9
Overall this game presents many challenges and it is a pretty difficult NES game, but I think it is an awesome game nevertheless, it has great graphics and awesome sound and it is just one of those classic beat em up games, you beat up many enemies in this game as you progress through many levels. I enjoyed playing this game and I definitely recommend it to those who like good NES games and are looking for a challenge and hours of fun, this is the game for you. I think this is a great game and I think you will be guaranteed both a tough time and tons of fun when you play this game, it is just great.

Battletoads, can you beat it?   Ciaron12
Battletoads
Overall: 8
The NES has some of the hardest games I have ever played. One of those games is Battletoads. It stands on that list for good reason, if you have played the game you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, do yourself a favor and pull it up on vizzed right now. Let us see how far you get. Just because it is FREAKING HARD does not mean it is not fun, or a bad game. It is simply just difficult. So why did it get the ratings I gave it? Lets find out!
Graphics: 10
This game has pretty decent graphics, you can go in just about any direction on screen. It is a side scroller making it impossible to go backwards once you have passed a point. There is a decent amount of detail in the actions, like when you boot a monster (or your team mate, that is always fun) you can see the "grooves" of the boot. Pretty amazing for the NES. The bosses have decent amounts of detail as well.
Sound: 6
Honestly, I do not care for the music. It was not obnoxious enough for me to mute it, but it gets pretty annoying. If you do not believe me, pause the game with the sound turned up. Just be prepared for a poor persons beat boxing. If a game has memorable music I find myself singing the tunes on occasion, that never happened with this game. Simply not impressed.
Addictiveness: 8
Even though this game is super hard, there are a number of things that make it addictive. The difficulty itself is one of those things. I sometimes simply want to see how far I can get (no I have never beat this game). My favorite thing to do though, is to play the game with a friend, my brother and I have this thing going where we will randomly turn on each other in the middle of the game. I'll be down on the ground with almost full life and he will come over to me, pick me up, and throw me into a pit. From that point on, it is all out WAR. We spend the next hour trying to get back at one another. I laughed a lot doing this.
Story: 6
The story is nothing amazing but most of the games on the NES follow the same suit. If you have played the NES for long you know that its many games are known for being FUN, not for the detailed story. Simply put, the story is kind of weak.
Depth: 10
There is only one way to go in this game, and that is forward. Even having said that there are a variety of things to do in the levels. One level you are side scrolling, the next you are repelling down a cavern. You surf, you ride on bikes (watch out for the random blocks of stone!). There is a decent amount of different things the toads do in this game. The question is, are you good enough to experience it all?
Difficulty: 10
This is a game that easily earns the 10 on difficulty. If I could rank the multi player I would rank it higher than that. If you think single player is hard, try doing it with two people. If one of you dies, you start over. There is no carrying the other through the levels. This continues to happen until you have almost NO LIVES. The monsters themselves really aren't a problem, it is the environment. Later levels you ride snakes, avoid spikes, there are just soo many ways to get one shotted.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this game is super hard. If you are up to a challenge, do yourself a favor and play this. I doubt you will be able to beat it, and if you are (without save states) you are simply one of the best video game players I have ever seen. We should all pay you some respect. This game is legendary, I still enjoy it to this day. My brother and I still duke it out on multi player from time to time (it is probably about time we did it again).
Pros: competition between two players, fun gameplay
Cons: Deaths too easy, unrealistic expectations for completion (especially multi player)

Please, let me know what you think. Thanks!

Battletoads: Prepare for a challenge   rcarter2
Overall: 8.3
The NES is well known by the older generation of gamers for making some of the most difficult video games in history. When they are asked to list some of the hardest NES games of all time, Battletoads is almost always on that list. This game is borders on cult classic, and it definitely lives up to it's hype. It is an old fashioned beat em up side-scrolling game with about a dozen twists, the obvious one being you are muscular human-sized toads pounding pigs, rats, and robots until they beg for mercy.
Graphics: 10
When it comes to graphics, the NES has it's ups and downs. But they went all out on this game. The environment is just stunning, especially considering what they had to work with. Each character had shadows, levels had running water, well shaded objects, a background that turns from wood stakes to endless fire, and the list goes on. The creators of this game were not lazy when it came to the small details with this, and it is one of the most beautiful graphics the NES gave.
Sound: 10
Have you ever played a game and hated the music or sound effects so much that you had to mute your TV? I can assure you that will not be
the case when you play this game. If anything, you will crank that volume up! I love the crunching sound of your light punches, and then the
deep BASH when you knock them off the screen. The music of this game is also amazing, and better yet, is unique to each level. That means you don't have to listen to the same music over and over again. Lastly, this is likely the ONLY game you will keep paused just to hear the awesome paused music.
Addictiveness: 6
Even though there is a variety of things to do in this game, the sound rules, and has awesome graphics, I had to give it dock it on addictiveness simply because it is so hard. You have a fair amount of opportunities for extra lives, and you get three continues. But the game is still ridiculously hard, and you are sent back to a checkpoint every time you lose a life, meaning you have to repeat hard parts again. Since there are no passwords, you can't continue from a level after you lose completely. When a game is this long, that hinders the addictiveness. There is nothing more frustrating than playing for an hour, getting really far, dying, and have to start from the very beginning. You are likely to quit for a while rather than keep playing.
Story: 7
Stories typically aren't super well developed in NES games, and this is no different. The main story is the Dark Queen has captured a princess and one of the Battletoads, so it is up to the other two to rescue them. I bumped up the story a point because the banter the dark queen gives you before and after each level, and the Falcon's (toad's commander) offers insults back to her can be entertaining. The game also has different things, and they pick them randomly each time you play, so it is worth reading the dialogue even if you played before since it will be different. Also, the fact the toads names are Pimple, Rash, and Zitz is enough to bump up the story by a point.
Depth: 10
Even though this game follows a completely  linear path, leaving no room to explore, this game is still massive. There are 12 levels in all. The first level is pretty short, but it pretty much ends there. A lot of the levels will take you up to 15-20 minutes to go through assuming you don't die and do things perfectly with no stopping. I also this was a beat em up game with many twists, and this is why. Not only do you get to pound enemies to oblivion, you get to ride turbo bikes, surf, fly a jet, travel through an entire level hopping on giant snakes, travel through an entire descending down a hole with a rope, swimming, race rats, and ride a clinger winger (just have to see that one). There is not a lack of variety, so you can't claim this game gets repetitive.
Difficulty: 10
This is a game that has more than earned a 10 rating on difficulty. Though normal enemies aren't too much of a problem, the environment is a giant death trap. About half the things in this game are instant kills. On two levels (the bike level and jet level) it starts off easy. But at the end, the obstacles are coming at you so fast, your movements have to be perfection. A lot of times, that is a figure of speech. Not on this. If you delay for the slightest possible moment, you crash and burn. On the clinger winger level, there is no easy beginning. The entire has to be near perfection, or you will die because the orb chasing you is faster than you are. This game is likely the cause of a lot of NES consoles being broken, controllers flying through the TV, and hair pulled out. Don't start this game taking it lightly.

A true battle of wits and reflexes   NovemberJoy
In the late 1980's to early 1990's, there was a huge TMNT craze going on, especially with the cartoon. Really, what was there that children wouldn't like? Action, humor, well-made animation, and an admittedly-awesome premise. But what about the other companies who wanted to leech off of its fame? Surprisingly enough, Rare was one of those companies, and to compete with it, they created Battletoads. They even planned to make a cartoon to make it a full-blown competition, but the cartoon was scrapped after the pilot, mainly due to what it was trying to imitate, and partially due to the abysmal quality. But, enough about the game's history, let's talk about the game itself.
For whatever reason, Rare was apparently very, very determined to get this thing out the door as soon as they possibly could. In fact, Rare got it out the door so fast, that they realized "Uh-oh! We forgot to polish it and work out the bugs!" and proceeded to work a bit more on the European and Japanese versions of the game. They took so much time finishing the game that, in direct contrast to their speedy US release, the European and Japanese versions took them two years to release. But, for this review, I'll just be talking about the US release.
Graphics - It's unbelievable what they did!
First, and certainly least, the graphics are amazing for an NES release. There's almost no flicker, the environments are well-detailed, and both the player character and enemies are given some character with the animation - when you finish an enemy, there's several different finishing moves that can be used, depending on the enemy.  And, when you reach the third level, you'll discover that they were really able to push the power of the NES - the scrolling is unbelievably fast, especially for an NES game. Even the cutscenes look great - though there aren't many of them, they're about of Ninja Gaiden quality.
+Almost no flicker
+Well-made environments
+Great animation
+HOW did they make it scroll that fast?!
+Excellent cutscene animation
Music/Sound - Rare's outdone almost every other game on the NES
The sound is really quite satisfying to listen to, especially after some of the audio atrocities I've had to hear. It's like healing for the ears, both the music and the sound effects. They all fit the mood perfectly, and the music is some of the best ever composed on the NES.
+Awesome music
+Great sound effects
Gameplay - Here's where some of the problems start to kick in
You know, when I mentioned the issue about the US version being released two years earlier than the other version? This is where that kicks in.
In the first level, it's a standard beat-em-up, with running attacks, normal attacks, and combos. There's one glaring flaw, and that's the fact that it's nearly impossible to break out of a combo once you've been locked into one. And, one full combo worth of hits takes away two blocks of your life bar, out of six. Though you can get a block of health back for eating a fly(they are toads, remember?), three combos will wipe out your six blocks of life. Along with your fists, you can get a stick from what appears to be a wooden AT-ST walker by beating it until it breaks into pieces.
But, the second level has you descending into a massive hole, hanging by an extremely long rope and defeating birds and toad-eating plants. This is the first, and certainly not the last, large gameplay change. And, there's a terrible glitch that sometimes happens here - occasionally, the hit detection will just completely die, and you will be able to neither hit enemies nor get hit by enemies. Since you can't commit suicide, you have to reset the entire game, and start from the first level. This is easily one of the worst bugs of the game, and that's saying a lot.
The levels just keep getting harder and harder - i.e. the third level has you dodging obstacles with absolutely no room for error. And, with that, the levels and scenery just keep getting better and better - aka, the sixth level has you climbing on giant snakes, which is a bit more original than most games get. It's like they wanted to draw the player in with the excellent graphics and scenery, along with the spot-on control and such, but they forgot to tone down the difficulty so that it wouldn't crush almost any player's soul.
The game's extremely hard, but for all the wrong reasons. For one thing, in the first level, there's a couple of flying enemies, both near the same area. If they knock you on the ground, they will proceed to pick you up and slam you on the ground, which is a one-hit-kill. Plus all the glitches in said level, the electric currents in the second level will take off three blocks of your health. In fact, this game suffers from one of the same problems that plagued the NES port of Dragon's Lair - almost everything kills you in one hit. And, when that's the case, what's the point of having a lifebar? While there are enough hazards that don't kill you in one hit, they are by far fewer than the things that cause lethal damage( like spikes and pits ).
And, since the game is so hard, it's not nearly as fun as it should be. If it was the difficulty level of your average NES game, then it wouldn't be that bad, but they seem to have taken it far beyond what it should be. In fact, they made the game easier when they were fixing the Japanese and European versions. The JAPANESE get the EASIER version?! There's a reason why those Asian stereo types exist, you know! This should be the other way around!
Anyways, even though they were creative with the level designs, they didn't put too much effort into the co-op mode, and actually making it so that you'd want to play with a friend. If you play with another player, then when they run out of lives, whether they continue or not, both players have to start the entire level all over again, even if both players were at the very end and the other player hadn't died once.
And, in most levels, if either player dies, then BOTH players get sent back to the last checkpoint. And, here's the kicker - there isn't anything to prevent friendly fire. You can beat each other up as much as you like, but all that'll do is hinder you in the long run. So, in other words, both players will weigh each other down so much that they won't be able to do much of anything in the game. Did somebody even playtest this mode first?
I'm pretty sure they didn't, because they forgot to fix a massive bug - in level 11(out of 12), the second player's vehicle never starts moving, and since you're being chased by an instant-death orb, they will die over and over again, and they can't do anything about it. They fixed this in the other versions...which almost convinces me that they just really, really hated Americans and wanted them to suffer.
-Occasional cheap shot at the player
-TOO HARD
=Racism in the video game industry?
+It's fun anyways
+Two-player option
-Both players get weighed down by each other
-The glitches!
+Very diverse gameplay
+Interesting level designs
+Spot-on control
Story - Just about average...
As for the storyline, you have to infiltrate the Dark Queen's defense system and rescue two characters - Princess Angelica, who is a princess of...actually, the game never explains it, and Pimple, one of the toads' comrades. And I almost forgot to mention, the other toads are named Rash and Zitz. It's kind of clever, I guess. It's just your average NES game's story, though there is some amusing banter between the Dark Queen and the toads' commander between levels.
+A bit of naming cleverness
+The in-between level banter
-Cliched as possible
Anyways, that just about wraps it up for this game. To be perfectly honest, you haven't been exposed to a truly hard game until you've played Battletoads. There's all those Kaizo romhacks, but those don't really count - they rely on artificial difficulty. This game actually got released, and it's one of the hardest games on the NES.
So, let's recap -
Graphics -
+Almost no flicker
+Well-made environments
+Great animation
+HOW did they make it scroll that fast?!
+Excellent cutscene animation
Music/Sound -
+Awesome music
+Great sound effects
Gameplay -
-Occasional cheap shot at the player
-TOO HARD

+It's fun anyways
+Two-player option
-Both players get weighed down by each other
-The glitches!
+Very diverse gameplay
+Interesting level designs
+Spot-on control
Story -

Overall Rating - A(Almost the perfect game...now, if only they'd made the US version the same way they made the Japanese and European versions)

Battletoads NES   Jack6651
Graphics: The picture is great! So many toads! And the great thing is that they look like toads!
Sound:  It has great music + sound! Like when you pause (Enter) in the middle of the game, you get a nice peppy/addictive beat!
Addictiveness: I always play this game, almost every day! It is very addicting!
Depth: A 10 because just because it is difficult, and it has 12 levels, it has received a 10!
Difficulty: It is very hard, because you only get 3 lives which makes going through 12 levels a hard time, and if you even get close to level 12, you are very lucky!
Overall, I love this game just because of it's difficultly! But, I already knew that the nes has a large collection of hard games and this is one of them! Now that I have money,I am going to buy this for my nes! (Oh and this is my firs review, so please take it easy!)

Battletoads: A Two-Player Game that is NOT a Two-Player Game.   SavatoX
SavatoX : Okay, X2, ready to play a game?
X2: Hey, how come you get a cool name, and I'm just "X2"?
SavatoX : Shut up! It's MY review. So anyway, Battletoads on NES. Now--
X2: You know what? Forget it. Let's not beat around the bush here. Today, we will review one of the, if not THE hardest games in video game history, Battletoads.
SavatoX : At first glance, this may seem like that game that's riding on Ninja Turtles's success, but it's actually really good.
X2: This game is huge, it's addicting... and it's hard. Hard hard hard hard hard HARD.
SavatoX : So we're about to do the impossible, and play an impossible game.
Story
SavatoX : Uh...
X2: I think I better just copy and paste the box description here, rather than trying to explain it myself.
SavatoX : Hey, that's my job!
"The Dark Queen has attacked and kidnapped (toadnapped?) your best buddy. To make matters worse, she nabbed the best looking girl around! So, what will you do? Cry? Whimper? Hide? Call the Starcops? NO! Cause you're a Battletoad! Battletoads don't cry, hide or call for help! And they certainly don't whimper! They get MAD then they get EVEN! So grab your blaster, hop on the Toadster and go get 'em!"
Both: Ooooooookay.
Gameplay
X2: There's really no shortage of gameplay options here. We could sit here for hours trying to list them all.
SavatoX : So basically, if you wanna know that badly, you have to play it yourself. This is probably the only game I have ever played that's less fun with two players, than with only one.
X2: Hey! What is that supposed to mean?
SavatoX : You'll understand in a little bit.
Graphics and Sound
SavatoX : Both of these get a perfect ten. Unlike a lot of games on the NES (I'm looking at you, Silver Surfer), every level has its own unique track. Even pausing the game gives you a pretty sweet tune to listen to.
X2: The sound effects are so impactful. They really capture how powerful you are. The graphics are absolutely mind-blowing. In the speed bike stage, the obstacles move so fast that it makes me dizzy.
SavatoX : I love how the Battletoads grow ram horns when they charge and how their fists enlarge when they punch.
X2: So ram horns make you more powerful, huh? Interesting. *puts on ram horns* Baaaaaaaaa!
SavatoX : I knew I should have just done this one solo.
Addictiveness
X2: For some reason, this game makes me want to pick the controller back up right after throwing it at the screen. It's like, it's too hard to beat, but you won't stop 'til you've beaten it. It's that addicting.
SavatoX : That is, until you hit the obstacle courses, like the speed biking, surfing, and flying stages. Those just make you want to punch the developers in the face. No pun intended.
X2: After you pass those (if you pass them), then it's back to the real fun.
SavatoX : X2, I thought we agreed that *I* did the talking.
X2: Yeah? Change of plans.
Depth
SavatoX : In my Super Castlevania IV review, I said that the game was extremely linear, but gave it a seven. That's because the game was huge, and pretty much impossible to play through all at once.
X2: Well, it's the same case with Battletoads. If you go through the whole game without warping, you'll find that there are twelve levels in the game, some of them taking half an hour to beat.
SavatoX : And like I said before, there is NO shortage of gameplay options. In the two-player mode, the game suddenly becomes realistic, and lets you "kill" your partner.
X2: Oh, so there are giant frogs in real life, too? I'd better watch my back...
SavatoX : X2... It's a game... And I was being sarcastic...
Difficulty
X2: This game actually deserves an eleven on the difficulty scale.
SavatoX : In Battletoads, perfection rules.
X2:
He's not kidding. If your timing is even a millisecond off, your chances are a snowball in hell. Oh, but the two player mode has to be a lot easier, right?
SavatoX : Wrong! You can damage each other, and if one player runs out of lives, you both lose.
X2: Are serious!? This game must be impossible with two players! With just the one player it's hard, but with two, it's virtually unplayable!!!
SavatoX : X2?
X2: Yes?
SavatoX : *punches X2*
X2: *dies*
GAME OVER
SavatoX : What!? Game over!? But he died, so why do I get the game over screen!?
Game Master: You two must work together if you wish to beat this game.
X2: Miss me?
SavatoX : Ugh... Fine.
Conclusion
SavatoX : *sigh* Alright, X2, let's finish this game.
X2: So this game is more than worthy of being considered the toughest game on the console, and maybe even in video game history.
SavatoX : Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Contra. Those games are a cakewalk compared to this game. Battletoads is NOT a two-player game.
X2: But we love the graphics and the sound, and massive variety of gameplay.
SavatoX : So now I hope you enjoyed the review, and *I* will see you next time.
X2: Hey, what about me?
SavatoX : Yeah. I'll probably bring you along again...
X2: Yay!
SavatoX : ...sometime next decade.
X2: Boo!

Battletoads (Nes)   Awesome5000
Battletoads for the nintendo entertainment system made by (Rare)..I remember myself playing this as a kid back in the day at my cuzzins house and had a lot of fun playing this since i was a huge fan of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and had no idea what battletoads was about but found this sort of like a clone of it that got my attention and while playing during the first stage ,it felt like the best action game i ever played for nes and that was just the first stage that got me to think i was going to do wonderful at this game.Peace of cake i thought .Till i got to the other levels and man is this game one of the most difficult ,almost impossible ,extremely complicated games ever made, to be able to beat for the old nintendo, you'll have to be a real professional nintendo power dude  to get a win over this game or read a lot of strategy to beat this game .It has a nice intro of the battletoads ship flying in space  and drops you off in enemy territory where the action begins and everything looks promising and also feels promising as you control the battletoad in one player executing combos on enemies ,swallowing flys with the tounge ,using a robots leg as a weapon after you destroy it,punching  enemies out of the screen with a power punch that turns into a massive fist, and also play with a friend in  co-op arcade style. Also One of the hardest things about this complicated game is that you can accidently hit your partner by mistake and this makes it really difficult because there's areas where enemies are all over the place on sky while you're both hanging through a rope to go down a long path and that's just the second level.Sometimes i even go back to it just to see how i do and still not that good at it as when i was a child .Battletoads is really on my top ten list of nes hardest games ever to beat .

It is clobbering time (battle toads review)   tornadocam
Its clobbering time. Nah only kidding today I am going to be reviewing Battletoads.
Story: 8
The story from the intro and manual of the game goes like this. Battletoad Pimple and Princess Angelica, who is a friend to the Toads, are kidnapped by the Dark Queen and her space forces. Pimple was taking the Princess back to her home planet when they were ambushed. The Dark Queen takes the captives to her home planet. She then hacks the Toads headquarters and invites them to come to her turf to free their friends. She also says they will have to beat her generals in her armies to get to her if they can. Professor T.Bird, who is the Toad's mentor helps Zitz and Rash come up with an invasion plan to rescue their friends. Now, for players who have not played Battletoads games the Toads as they are mutants who basically keep order in the alien planets. Okay, back to the story analysis. I really liked this plot I thought it was creative and a great way to introduce who the characters were in the Battletoads series. The plot has your typical damsel in distress. But you also have your fallen comrade captured too. It really looks like the makers of this game were trying to get away from were the female is the only person in danger. Also the top bad person is a woman. I cannot remember many games before this that had a female in the villain role.  Battletoads, is your typical beat them up scroll along game so it was nice they included a plot. Most beat them up games do not have a defined plot as this game does. However, the plot could have introduced how the Toads became to be. Maybe I am just a guy who likes details though. Still a nice plot for a beat them up game.
Graphics: 10
When I first played this game I was surprised on how well the graphics were. Considering this game was an 8 bit game. The graphics look like what you would find in a 16 bit game. The backgrounds are very nicely done. The waterfalls in the first world look amazing. Also the ice in the Ice world look good too. Tradewest, who made this game, really used state of the art graphics. The controls in this game are also smooth no matter which toad you are playing as the controls are smooth. The sprints are very good for a Nintendo Entertainment system game. In fact, the sprints look like a 16 bit system such as the Super Nintendo. The sprints really shine whenever the toad you are using does a combo. It is funny to see their feet or fists get really big. That took a lot of sprints to do for an 8 bit system. The game also does not lag. I thought the game might lag in the wind tunnel, but it did not. The graphics of Battle Toads really shine.
Sound: 8
The sound in this game is pretty good too. The soundtrack in this game was nicely done. My favorite world themes are the ice stage (world 4) and the first world. Those two themes really seem relaxing. I think it is ironic that they are relaxing because this game is not difficulty wise (more on that later in the review). Also how the toads sound when they are beating up bad guys is funny. The pow sound that the toads make when they do a combo, which is were their fists or feet get huge, is hilarious. The enemies the way they pop out is also a nice sound as well. Moreover, the way the wind sounds in the wind tunnel was a nice touch. The wind really sounds like a big burst of wind is guiding the player. However, they are a few negatives concerning the sound but they are minor. The first negative is some of the stage themes sound like there is a tingle to them. The second world had a tingle. Some players do not mind tingles in the music. I on the other hand do not like tingles. Also when you press pause the sound it makes can get annoying if you have to leave the game for a while. It sounds like a very loud drum to me. Thus, due to those minor negatives I did not give the sound a 9 or a 10. Still, the soundtrack in this game was good and the game had overall sound; so it still deserves a good rating.
Addictiveness and Depth: 9
Battletoads is a fun game despite what the game is infamous for, more on that later in the review,. I really had fun playing this game when it came out. I want to think this game came out in 1991 or maybe 1992. The game does have good replay value mostly because of the graphics and sound. Not to mention it is a game that challenges the player which also adds replay value. I will be honest beat them up games usually do not have a lot of depth to them. However this game is very long. There are weapons to get, health to gain by beating up the bad guys, and extra points to gain. Also what adds to the depth is how long the worlds are. Most beat them up games have short worlds in them. Battletoads does not have a short level that I am aware of in it. Even the first world is a bit long for the first world. So the player will need to spend lots of time if they plan on beating this game.
Difficulty: 10
Battletoads really shines in difficulty. In fact, this is what the game is best known for. I remember reading were game experts ranked this in the top 5 hardest games among the NES games. In addition, the same experts ranked this game in the top 10 of hardest games of all time. I would say, I agree with that. This was a pain difficulty wise. I have played difficult games before Mega Man and Mario games. I thought because I could play Mega Man and Mario decent I would do okay on this game. I was wrong this game is so difficult that I only made it to world 4. Moreover, I went on youtube to see how other video game players made it through these stages. I went back to play this game ugh I still died a lot in it. The first two stages are hard but its world 3 that the game goes from difficulty to extremely difficult. The wind tunnel world 3 was a pain to get through. The blocks they throw at you, is unbelievable it is so easy to plow into one of them. World 4 has icy conditions and there is death spike games. The death spikes are more numerous than the hardest Mega Man games I have played. The enemy placement in this game is also very tough. It is easy to find yourself battling several enemies at one time. Not to mention, they are enemies that have 1 kill attack. If some of the enemies hit you, you lose a life. Also their is  poisonous gas that is instant death, and death spikes. This is the hardest game I have ever played. I really do not mind the difficulty because it requires players to develop skills and creativity to master. But a lot of this game is also based on reflexes you have to be quick to make it out of some of the worlds of this game. In summary, Battletoads is a very hard game to master.
Overall: 9.1
Battletoads is a good game for several reasons that I have already mentioned. The graphics are very good. A lot of games in the early 1990's were starting to be marketed for the new SNES. So for this game to be released on 8 bit and have a 16 bit feel to it was really amazing. The sound was also good. The sound could have been better such as when pausing the game and a few tingles. Some players are turned off by this game's difficulty. I do not find the difficulty a turn off. However, this is a game were you can easily lose your temper over due to how hard it is. I also think having this game as a beat them up style was also nicely done. I remember playing this game a lot when I first got it. I still like to play this game to this day. One of these days I hope I eventually can get past world 4 or 5. Now, is this game in the same league as Mega Man and Mario. I would say not, but its still a good series. I gave this game a very good rating so the question is would I recommend it? This games recommendation really depends on your personality. If you are someone who loves a challenge than I would recommend this game, because you will be challenged. If you are a type of person who gets angry easy, upset easy, or stressed out easy than this game is probably not for you. Because this game will make you angry and it can cause stress. So you have been warned on this game's difficulty.

Battletoads Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 9
Battletoads on the NES is a game that I would have never thought of being a good game.  It is like Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where it plays like an arcade game.  When I tried this game out, it was very fun at first, but then when I found out that I can pick up weapons, that just made the game even more fun.  I really like playing these kinds of games and this one is pretty much different from the others that are related to this.
Graphics - 9
The graphics are very good for an NES game.  I really am surprised that they would make a game that involves with toads.  That just makes it look like a rip off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but whatever it still is a pretty fun game.  The effects look very good and there seems to be no trouble with the graphics.
Sound - 10
The sound is my favorite.  The game play music is good and all, but what is pretty awesome is that when you pause the game, it would play this awesome beat.  What game has a music that plays when you pause the game?  Nothing I would know except for this one.
Addictiveness - 8
The game is very fun to play.  I would play it frequently just like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers.  Like I said, I like these types of games.  It can be addicting sometimes.
Story - 7
I am not sure what the story is, but I think it has to do with toads trying to get rid of enemies from places.  That is basically all I know and I know that it may sound useless to say.  That is what I think the story is pretty much about.
Depth - 8
The game has some good features.  For instance, there is 2-players in the game so that means you can play with someone else.  It is a great way to work together and beat the game a little bit more easily.  Another thing is the infinite continues.  Now I am not sure about this because I have not played it on 2-player, but I think that there is infinite continues, the only thing that you will lose is your score if you get a game over and continue on where you left out.
Difficulty - 4
The game is not that hard at first when you play by yourself.  If you play this with someone else, just know that stay away from your partner because if you get close to him and hit each other, you will get hit.  That is the most difficulty thing in this game and I think that it is just ridiculous.  Other than that, the rest seems to be okay.
Wrap Things Up...
Battletoads is a great game to play...by yourself if you hate seeing the fact that you get hit by your partner by accident a few times.  I recommend trying this game out if you have not already, I guarantee that if you like the game play of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and other games related to this type you will like it. :)

Battletoads, ready for tough stuff?   Stevie 764
Review of battletoads, get ready to cry  and run to mother when playing this game!
Graphics - 8
The graphics could sometimes look a little confusing at first, but I only played the game once and I think they look ok, making me give the graphics a good 8.
Sound - 7
The sounds and music in this game is strange to me because the music that plays when you hit the pause button, here is what it is simulated like:
Me: *pushes pause*
Game - *catchy pause music beat plays*
I give this a good 7.
Addictiveness - 3
This game is just the hard stuff you need and the reason why you will end up not playing this game again is explained later in the review, I give this a bad 3.
Story - 4
The story is really strange, the story explains that a kidnap of one of the 3 battletoads happen and the 2 battletoads have to save their 3rd battletoad. I give this a "meh" 4. But it has traps to stop the battletoads from saving the other toad.
Difficulty - 10
Can you let me say this? OH, MY, GOD, this is just absolutely the hardest game I ever played, not kidding. I played this once, and the furthest I got in level 1 was at a flying bee that kills you in one hit which is absolute INSANITY!!!  If anyone plays this game, be sure that when you play, get ready to run to mom and cry to her, "I CAN'T BEAT THE FIRST LEVEL ON BATTLETOADS!!!" This is the perfect reason why I give it a absolutely insane 10.
Depth - 8
This game has maybe 20 levels or so? (I only played once and never did research on the game.)  The worst part of the game is that you can't save in this game, what a absolute load of crab because it isn't FAIR at all!  Here is a quote: "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?" That explains how unfair and hard this is, making me give this a 8.
Overall - 7.8
This game may be good to some people, and that "some people" are people who can actually beat the first few levels or maybe the entire game, the graphics are okay, the sounds are strange, the game is hard as crabs, it's unfair gameplay and being unable to save, if you EVER see this game, DON'T BUY IT! It is absolutely gonna give you rage and  a rage quit because of it's monsterous difficulty.
That wraps up the review for battletoads, don't forget to check out my other reviews! :)
Overall rating - C+
My experience of the game: I found this game upstairs in my room by opening up one of my drawers, looking in it, and I saw this! I popes the game in the NES, it was really weird, but the worst part was when I got to the bee in level 1 that kills you instant, it made me so raged that I slammed the controller DOWN on the floor when I turned it off in a rage. This is why I said NEVER BUY THE GAME EVER AGAIN!
One problem is the difficulty, it is full of insanity and crab!!!
Note: I put a b instead of p in crab because I can't swear on here, so the word "crab" will cover it up good.

Challenging game.   Kadorah
this game is one of the most entertaining fighting games in the past years, for me i think the fighting system and the gameplay is unique considering the other games released at the same time. In addition, hardcore games should get more than 8/10 cause the fun in games is to play a hard game. i would give it 8.5/10.

Had the Potential to be a Great Game   luigi25

Battletoads on the NES was released in the summer of 1991 around the same time the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo came out. Despite the fact that this is an 8-bit NES game, it has really great graphics and soundtrack. Sadly, those are about the only good things I can say about this game. There were some other strong points to the game too such as the characters and storyline, but they almost mean nothing because of the difficulty and poor game design. Fortunately, there would be other versions of Battletoads for the Gameboy, Sega Game Gear, and Sega Genesis. So, this isn't a total waste of an idea. This is the first version of Battletoads released for the NES that was made by Rare and Tradewest.

Graphics 9/10: The first thing I noticed about Battletoads were how great the graphics were. I can't think of another NES game that looked as good as this one does except for maybe Kirby's Adventure. The detail put into the characters and backgrounds is like no other NES game that came before it. Maybe the fact that Rare developed this game had something to do with it looking the way it did. After all, they were the ones that made Donkey Kong Country, and that game had excellent looking 3-D graphics. Battletoads still is a 2-D game, but it is a very nice looking 2-D game. Although, in some ways it does look like an 8-bit game. The characters have detail to them, but not as much as some of the 16-bit games. There was only so much the NES could do, but this game really pushed the hardware to its limits.

Music 10/10: Just the opening track of Battletoads will get you pumped up. This game sounds amazing! It falls into the same category as other NES classics such as: Legend of Zelda, Mega Man 2, etc. What really impresses me is the sound of the drums on the title track. They have so much depth to them, and this is also true for many of the other songs. Battletoads gave Sega's new game "Sonic the Hedgehog" some real competition. I think that it sounds just as good as what that game sounded. Even though, this is only an 8-bit game, Battletoads has a pretty impressive soundtrack that is better than some of the games released on the 16-bit SNES and maybe even the Genesis.

Gameplay 2/10: Battletoads is a side-scrolling platform game in a way, but it is not your typical platformer. You control one of the Battletoads named Rash (I think that's his name.) in 1-player mode. He travels through the stages beating up enemies along the way. Rash has a health meter similar to what Mega Man has, although, he can't shoot enemies, he just punches and kicks them. The player has no time limit, but there are also no save files with this game either. To make things worse, there are not many lives to play the game with and almost no way to earn extra lives. The player also has limited continues. This is where things start to go downhill with this particular NES game!

I don't mind games like these, and for the first part of Battletoads this isn't that much of a problem because that part of the game isn't that hard. Like with Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog, it just takes practice and trial/error to become good at that section. It's the later sections of the game that become an issue. Mainly, the Turbo Tunnel with the go-cart area. This part is impossible! What is the point of this? You go from a beat'em up platforming game to a racing style of game where you have to avoid hitting walls that come at you so fast you can't dodge 'em! Not to mention, how terrible the controls are in this game!

The controls take some getting used to, but the game doesn't give the player much of a chance to get used to them. Before you know it, you've used up all your lives and continues and have to re-start the game. All this really amounts to is just replaying the same 2 or 3 stages over and over again just to get back to the racing section of the Turbo Tunnel so you can go back and do it again! This version of Battletoads would be a whole lot more playable if you had more lives and continues. I guess the Turbo Tunnel is possible, but what happens if you Game Over again?! You'll just have to re-play this area again making for a very poorly designed game.

Story 10/10: The storyline of Battletoads is done pretty well, and this is another one of the game's strong points. Princess Angelica and one of the other Battletoads named Pimple have been kidnapped by the Dark Queen and her 3 monsters. It is up to the other 2 toads, Rash and Zitz, to save Pimple and Angelica. Professor T. Bird is their coach and goes along with them on their journey as they venture through Ragnarok's World. T. Bird acts like Rash and Zitz's guide and stays in the airship called "The Vulture" but watches the toads on his monitor.

You have the setup for a really good game with this storyline and characters. The plot of Battletoads is very well thought out and creative just like with many other Nintendo/Sega games. It's too bad this game is so impossibly difficult! However, this storyline gives Battletoads a lot of potential for a great game. It does spark an interest with gamers and gives them a reason to want to play the other version on the Gameboy and Game Gear even though this version has pretty terrible game design and difficulty.

Content 7/10: For players that are hardcore enough, Battletoads has about a little less than an hour's worth of content to it. I'm not very familiar with the stages in this game because I've never made it past the Turbo Tunnel, but for people that have, this game contains a variety of different levels. For the most part, this is a beat'em up type of game, but there are other parts to it as well. The Turbo Tunnel has players ride on a go-cart at very high speeds and try to avoid crashing into walls and other barriers. There are also: climbing sections, underwater levels, maze sections, etc. Then there is the final battle with the Dark Queen and her two monsters. Battletoads is a pretty interesting game, but all of this content is mainly just for experts.

Difficulty 10/10: Battletoads is one of these NES games that is designed in a way that makes progression impossible! You don't get many lives, and it has limited continues. The go-cart section of the Turbo Tunnel is the breaking point for me and most other players as well. The Angry Video Game Nerd "James Rolfe" never made it past this part, or maybe he did with Mike Matei's help. I kept making slow progress with this part, but every time I would get somewhere, I'd crash into another wall, Game Over, re-play the Turbo Tunnel from the beginning, or even worse use up my last continue, and re-start the game from the beginning!

The controls felt off too. Rash would seem to have too much momentum in his jumps. I found myself falling into bottomless pits way too much for my taste. Not only that, it felt like he could not get out of the way of some of the enemy attacks, and his attacks felt delayed. I kept taking damage, and this was a problem I never could get used to. It reminded me a lot of the way things were in the first Mega Man game. For me, Battletoads is another one of those old NES games that was hard in the wrong ways. I felt like progression was impossible unless you cheated your way through the game by using save states or some kind of cheat code.

Overall 7.6/10: Battletoads on NES is not that bad of a game. It's hard, but there are several other reasons to play it. The game looks and sounds amazing, and the game's plot is kind of cool. The Dark Queen is a great video game villainess. Professor T. Bird is also pretty cool with his comments that he makes whenever you fail on a level and Game Over. The Dark Queen also has some dialogue whenever you use up your last continue and have to restart the game. This isn't a waste of an idea, this version did have potential, but it was designed in a way that made progression impossible unless you played the game hundreds of times and had these stage memorized, or you were just a fast learner with quick reflexes.

Battletoads: The Ultimate Challenge   Excavion
Battletoads is a classic in my books for the NES. It stands up to the test of time by being infamous for it's cult following and it's notorious difficulty. Before I break down the following categories, be warned if you get frustrated easily or you are not into conquering through repitition and memory you will not enjoy this game. Now then, onto the review!
Graphics: 9
What can I say? Battletoads is a pretty game for it's day. The art direction is fantastic with a perfect blend of organic and mechanical environments throughout. Earlier stages portray an alien atmosphere very well with fantastic foregrounds and backgrounds. No particular sprite work ever left me guessing what it was or what it was doing there. The later stages tend to move into a more mechanical appearance giving a classic 80's science fiction vibe while still feeling unique. The animations are also done quite well and can best be described as comical in a good way. I find myself laughing every time my toad charges with a pair or ram horns or turns into a wrenching ball. This game is also quite colorful which is extremely helpful when doing the brutally hard auto-scrolling sections. Every graphic feels crisp and well done with Battletoads. The only reason why take away the single point is because I have seen a couple game on the NES library that pull just a little more out of the system graphically.
Sound: 10
The sound direction is great for this game and has some of my favorite classic tracks of any game. The music is fantastic. It's tough when it needs to be and frantic when things really ramp up. Even the pause music is very catchy. My favorite two tracks in the game would have to be from the dreaded "Turbo Tunnels" level. The first feels very foreboding with a deep bass line. It let's you know this is the level that separates the men from the boy's. The second track being from the speed bike section of the stage. It's fast paced, frantic, and beyond catchy.
The sound effects are also great. Each hit sounds very solid almost akin to old black and white movies and a power hit sounds like it has more punch. All the other sounds are very distinct, queuing you to exactly what happened.
Addictiveness: 7
Here's the part that will be the most divided. Battletoads to me is very addictive and nostalgic. It's difficulty poses a great challenge to conquer but I can only play it for so long before I feel like burning the world. I've always owned the game and for 20 some odd years I've always come back to it. However, The difficult may turn many players away instantly. It's fun, it's different, but very difficult.
Story: 5
The story for Battletoads is simple but exists. More or less you are on a mission to rescue the third toad of your team, Zits from the Dark Queen. You are met with some filler dialogue between stages but that is about all you get. Its not extraordinary but explains more in game than most NES titles.
Depth: 10
This game is mechanically very deep. At it's core it is a beat-em-up but every stage introduces a new mechanic in which you will have to conquer. This goes from speed bikes to swimming, intense platforming, etc. The challenge is very different from stage to stage, keeping things very fresh. In my opinion, it is one of the deepest games in the NES library just because it does so much and tackles so many mechanics of the time. If you like games that fundamentally change on the fly, play Battletoads.
Difficulty: 10
Ever get kicked in between the legs? Ever get burned on the stove top? Ever fall out of a jet and land in a vat of battery acid and thumb tacks? Yeah, that's probably more comfortable than the difficulty curve of this game! 23 years I've played this game and I have never made it passed the "Turbo Tunnels" without the use of cheats and that's only level 3 out of 13! Expect to die a lot in this game. Expect your mind to drift to the homicidal when being ultimately crushed into dust and then atoms by this game. There is a reason why it is largely considered the hardest game of all time (Probably well into the 10's of 1000's). Contra ain't got nothin' on this. However, it is not cheaply difficult. All of the deaths I've ever experienced in this game I know exactly what I did wrong. This game requires a godly high skill ceiling but rarely cheats you unlike Ninja Gaiden with enemy placement. The game is designed in such a way that it will crush your soul and make you doubt everything but I can honestly say with total confidence that the player is almost always to blame.
Overall: 9
Battletoads is a classic I always come back to and is one of my favorite games of all time despite the difficulty and I recommend everyone put playing this game and making it to level 3 at least once on their bucket list. It's a fantastic game that tried so much and finally it is being recognized. I tip my hat to you Rare and Tradewest for this beautifully crafted hell spawn of a game. Now then, happy dying!

The infamously difficult game from Rare   endings
Battletoads. This is a two player game that plays outs a rescue mission in about 12 stages. Now one in every 4 is going to be a tough one, at least. This is also one of the few games I can think of that I can more easily beat the game single player - two player for me is a lot tougher, we'll go into that later. Are you too late to jump on the 90's attitude bandwagon and fight evil and darkness with these mutant space-traveling frogs?
Story: 7
Rash, Zits and Pimpe are your 3 Battletoads, but Pimple has been kidnapped - along with some alien princess the amphians were supposed to be protecting. Way to blow it, guys! Their mentor, Professor T.Bird will offer scant guidance and morale support as you (and possibly a second player buddy) go after the guilty party- the Dark Queen. What's her name, well she doesn't have one. But she does wear a lot of DARK CLOTHING. I guess that qualifies.
The fact Prof T.Bird and the Dark Queen take turns applauding/berating your progress through the game is a great way to keep their characters in the loop and keep you focused on the mission at hand. The do tell a couple of groan-worthy lines, but come on, this is game with mutant frogs named after skin blemishes.
Sadly the princess and Pimple are nearly forgettable, you never see them until the very, very end of the game, and they have no dialog. I kind of wish they had just said, Dark Queen's lair, go kick her butt! And been done with it.
Graphics: 8
I do like they try things with perspective (you fight the first boss while looking through its robotic eyes), and the 3-d rotation on the Dark Queen's tower is interesting. The areas and textures are often flat and uninteresting though. The backgrounds for the stage often just a repeating loop. All the improvised weapons look cheap and flat, like stickers, and the only health source (flies) are also strange and golden, with no definition.
Our heroes fortunately have a lot of animation. Their superpower is their limbs can transform. So if you are punching on an enemy, your toad can suddenly sprout a giant fist and punch them off the map. Knock a bad guy down into the dirt, you can grow a giant combat boot and punt him to the moon. While rappelling down a gorge, you can turn your whole body into a wrecking ball. Rare does have a lot of fun with this - and it helps the player sink in that these toads are superhuman heroes.
The two cut scene dominators, the luscious Dark Queen and the fatherly, feathery T. Birrd, are well done  and don't disappoint.
Sound: 8
There are some pretty good tunes to this actually. It starts right at the beginning. The pause music. Yes, this game has pause music, and its good! The faster stages, the infamous speeder bike (noob crusher) and the race to disarm the bomb later have the better music. Some like the surf stage and the Dark Queen's tower are boring and forgettable.
The sound effects are great! Each giant hit from your battering ram hands (or horns) have a sickening THUD as they launch the enemy into orbit. The punching effects are pretty good too.
Addictiveness: 7
Once I beat it, I played it a few more times. But honestly, this game has some bad stages that are just a bore. It is sandwiched between really awesome stages. So on a map, it will show 3 stages, and for each one, one is a vehicle and one is a brawler, and the other is kind of a wildcard.
I think this game could be addicting to people trying to prove they can beat it. It will crush you, alot, and some people don't take that lying down (or sitting down and gaming either). There are no secrets really, and no extra quest or anything to add to the enjoyment. Maybe because its hard they thought that would be enough.
Depth: 6
The choice you have in the attacks is novel, and some strategy can help lead to bonuses like extra lives if you know how to get the most points out of your kill. You can also gain 1ups by juggling an enemy, easiest in stage 2.
But the paths are all one way, and you don't get much choice between do it this way or die. Thats really what this game is all about. You will die until you get it just right.
Difficulty. 9
I didn't really think it was the hardest game ever. The speeder bike is a lot of fun, good thing because it requires extensive, EXTENSIVE memorization. By the end of it, you are doing lane changes lightning fast, its borderline insane. Strangely, later on there is a flying level, and I found that much easier than the bikes. Why wasn't it first? Maybe because its not as much fun.
Two player for me is bad. I could not work with a partner because team injury is always on. You can hit and kill each other. And pits are EVERYWHERE. So much instant death in this game. So you end up trying to fight things and accidentally knocking your buddy off the ledge - and you both share the continues. No thank you, I'll beat this all by myself.
There are bosses, but they are very lackluster. The Dark Queen, is rather ridiculous, and animated so poorly it was silly.
So there are hard stages sprinkled in with easier stages. You get a life bar but thats a joke. All enemies will either kill you outright, or take off half your life bar. Its not really there to help you.
Final Verdict: 8.2
For those about to punish themselves, we salute you. Its ok. Not the best game ever.

Battletoads Box Description

Okay toads! Let's get EVEN! When the evil Dark Queen kidnaps both your best buddy and the best looking girl this side of the Mazallion Star Cluster - what are you gonna do about it? Are you gonna cry? Hide? Call the Starcops? No way! Because you're a BATTLETOAD and BATTLETOADS don't cry, hide or call for help. BATTLETOADS get real MAD - and then they get EVEN! So, strap on your blaster, power-up the Toadster and get on down to the Dark Queen's planet - but, watch out 'toad - this lady's bad, and she's got a whole mess of really nasty surprises lined up for you - like the Psyko Pigs, the Mutant Ratpack, Robo-Manus and the Saturn Toadtrap, to name but a few. You're gonna need all your fighting skills to defeat her - the Battletoad Butt, the Big Bad Boot and the Nuclear Knuckles. Hey, and don't forget to take along the Jet Turbo, the Space Board and the Speed Bike. Because you're gonna need 'em all, 'toad, if you're gonna rescue your friends and get the frog outta there with your green skin intact!

Battletoads Cheat Codes

5 Extra lives: on the title screen, hold Down + A + B, and press start.

Extra Continues in a One Player Game: Start a two player game. Beat up Zitz until all of his lives are gone. When asked to if you want to continue, don't. Play the game as Rash. When you get a game over as him, press start on controller 2 to play as Zitz. Repeat every time you die, and you will get 3 extra continues in a one player game.

Warp to level 3: In the beginning of the game, immediately headbut the psycho pigs, and run to the next area where the Walker appears. Jump on the platform and into the pulsating warp. Must be quick.

Warp to level 5: In the last section of the speed bike obstacle course in level 3 (where the walls come at you really fast) drive into the 10th wall. There is a pulsating warp in front of the wall.

Warp to level 6: In the Ice Cavers (level 4)jump on the platform that falls when you jump on it. Get near the bottom, and jump repeatedly, making the platform go up. There should be a warp formed at the top.

Warp to level 8: In the second snake pit of level 6, climb to on the first snake and jump all the way to the right when the snake reaches the height of it's path (avoiding the spikes). You must jump over because the warp will be gone before the snake reaches it.

Warp to level 11: In level 10 (Rat Race), when you kick the bomb in any of the three races, the Spazz you've been racing will fall down from the top of the screen and hits it's head on the girder, sending you to the next race. You can continue to hit it for a short while with punching or charging attacks. If you hit the rat with a Final Smash move before you fall to the next segment, you will warp to level 11.

Richard geller 09-05-12 - 10:09 PM
I beat the score... it doesn't know it :D
jerryaberry 09-05-12 - 01:13 PM
Pretty difficult to beat rcarter2's time on any game though. I wouldn't doubt for a minute that he got to 999,999 pretty quick. Anyway, congrats on beating the game with a perfect score.
jerryaberry 09-05-12 - 01:10 PM
Impressive Richard geller. However because of rcarter2's time of 00:00:00 no one will ever beat his score now that play time is actually recorded as this is the deciding factor for ties.
Richard geller 09-05-12 - 03:52 AM
rcarter2, thanks for your comment, this motivate me to do it better ... and now I had 999,999 as you, and I finished the game! :D I lost my first-live at surf city, level 5... I jump from level 6 to level 8... that is it :D :P
rcarter2 08-25-12 - 03:39 PM
you a LOT of points and also a lot of extra lives.
rcarter2 08-25-12 - 03:39 PM
Richard geller, that score of yours is very impressive. And it looks like you were only one level away from the final stage. Good job. If you want to know how I got my score at by that level, the answer is in the 2nd stage. Juggling the birds earns......
Deleted Account.. 08-23-12 - 11:51 AM
