Mario Party 10   Uzar
It's Party time!...For the 10th time now! But this time the party has been taken to the Wii U. But in it's change to the Wii U, would the series move on from the (many) mistakes made on the Wii? The answer is...No, no it didn't. Mario Party 10 keeps all the unwanted, unneeded gimmicks from Mario Party 9. But ever so slightly improves on them. (I'll talk plenty on these improvements later).  One new feature to this game is this; this game can be played by 5 players! While it is possible to have a bit of fun with this game with friends. There is a lot missing from this game. Too many things have been removed and reworked when it was never needed. But let's start this review already! I'm tired of stalling you guys.
Graphics: 8/10
I'll admit this. The graphics of this game are pretty nice! All the characters have nice amounts of detail to them. HD really does a lot for these characters. Although a few characters seem like they are made of plastic at times. But the HD graphics really do the characters justice. The vehicles, as much as I hate everything about that semi-new mechanic, look pretty nice as well. But nothing too special can be said about them. The levels all look really nice. Sometimes they look like they are lifted straight out of other games.
But one gripe I do have is that the stages feel so...empty. When the camera is zoomed out and you get a higher view. You can see a good portion of the board. But aside from a few features of the level. It's really barren and empty. The undersea level gets SOME mercy because it's the bottom of the sea. But Mushroom Park and Airship Central have NO excuse.
The minigames look really nice though!Nothing TOO much can be said about them that hasn't been said about the stages in general. The graphics are great!
Sound: 9/10
The sound is pretty nice in this game. All of the music is catchy, and overall pleasant to listen to. Although as nice as they are; I can only end up remembering only two or three of them. All the sound effects, along with each character's voice clips are crisp and clear. Pretty nice quality, but ultimate it's one happy, sad, or angry vocalization. And the occasional 1-4 words for human characters. (Or infernal screeching if you're with Toad or Toadette. :P)
The minigames all boil down to like two or three different songs though. There's not really a wide variety of music to this game. But honestly I don't know how much music you could pack into Mario Party though.
Addictiveness: 5/10
This game is pretty fun with friends. I played it for awhile when I first got it. But it seems forgettable to me. It's definitely a lot more fun than Mario Party 9. But not exactly as much fun as the others. It's a lot of fun when you get around to playing it, and you'll want to do two or three rounds. But once you stop playing you don't really feel too much incentive to play again. Maybe it's just me though. It's a really weird thing to describe, but I feel that way about a lot of games I don't particularly like. :P
Depth: 5/10
There's very little depth to this game. Both game wise and content wise. In the actual game part they kept the removal of stars and coins. And there are only like three different dice items you can find. It's really simplistic. Which at some points I like, but this feels like an oversimplification.
Content-wise there are a few ups and downs. First of all, this game has the second highest amount of playable characters. Beaten only by MP8. There are only two characters you can unlock with collected Mini Stars. You can also unlock two additional vehicles for each level with collected Mini Stars as well. I usually like them more than the standard ones. :P
With boards; there are only five to choose from. Quite a few Mario Party's beat the game in this department.
Technically this game has 13 boards. With 8 of them being available only in Amiibo Party mode. (Assuming you have all the amiibo compatible with it...But frankly, it's just the same board with different things added to it. Nothing major. Just different character themed/related things added to the board.
There are 3 different game modes to Mario Party 10. Mario Party, Bowser Party, and Amiibo Party.
Mario Party plays a lot like 9's main mode. You and three others are roped into a vehicle (Car, submarine, flying carpet...the usual stuff) and you traverse a long board in order to get to the end. Although Bowser and Bowser Jr are here to make trouble for you! With a fort halfway through and boss waiting at the end. He or she with the most Mini Stars wins!...Assuming they survive anyway. Bowser himself is caged at the start of the level. He has six locks on his cage. And when each number on the dice is rolled for the first time, that number lock will break. So be careful, and don't be the schmo that Bowser will "Thank" for letting him out. The chaos will intensify!
A interesting new mechanic here (That I really wish would be added to the traditional formula) is health. Bowser's Minigames, and boss battles are dangerous games with bullet bills, traps, bombs, and all kinds of crazyness. If you're hit too many times though and lose all your health...You're out! You don't get to play until next board. Brutal eh?
Bowser Party is essentially the same as Mario Party. Only a 5th player can join (Or less with a few CPU players). Only 4 get to ride though. The 5th gets to take the wheel of Bowser himself! And Bowser Jr also. But You can rain pain on the Mario Chumps from the first turn in Bowser Party mode. And Bowser Spaces are less rampant, but always there too. Bowser also gets a lot of dice to throw at once. So let's just hope that the Mario Crew gets far enough away...
Amiibo Party is the closest thing you'll get to the Mario Party's of old. It's a 4 player mode, but you all get to move separately!! The boards however all follow one layout, the only differences are how the board is decorated. And there are no individual stars or coins either. This is still just to get the most Mini Stars. It's a small step in the right direction though.
Story: 0/0
Difficulty: 5/10
The difficulty here is almost totally dependent on the skill of your opponents. There's not very much that's actually difficult in the game, however. Most of the minigames are very easy. Although there are a few that take just a little bit of effort. And a few more that rely on luck.
One thing I can say though is this. It's still nowhere near how much you can mess with others in previous Mario Parties. But in this one there is definitely a lot more chances to mess with others than Mario Party 9 had. Sometimes there's even more than 2 areas with Mini Ztars! (Purple Mini Stars that lower the amount of Mini Stars the recipient had)
So with the minimal opportunities to make things hard on you. Bowser has the weight of difficulty almost totally on him. If he catches up to you, everyone is in trouble! And if you don't get far enough he'll come and tear into all of you once again. If this happens, it can make the game a real struggle.
The controls are much more refined than MP 8 or 9. The motion controlled games (Which thankfully there aren't too many of) work smoothly, and are responsive. And the games without motion controls are very nice and control well too. The controls vary, but they are all simple and work well. I was pleasantly surprised by how well everything worked. Especially since I could barely play Mario Party 8. :P
Overall; this game seems to be less of a sequel to the other Mario Parties. But more of a sequel and improvement to Mario Party 9 specifically. It's much more fun than 9 was, and the motion controls are a lot easier, and don't feel as totally forced as they did in 8. I was a little disappointed from the day the release trailer was out because I was expecting 10 to be much better than the Wii ones. But I was wrong in expecting that. And what Nintendo delivered was basically a fun version of Mario Party 9. But this time, with some degree of difficulty. :P
It's fun if you know you have like a sibling or a friend who would regularly play it with you. But the single player experience is a bit lacking. But overall it's a decent game.

Game is fun to play but feels like more could have been added to it. Amiibo party only has one board to play on so that could quickly get boring.

My little brother got this game for his birthday. We are going to lay it next time I visit.
