A different type of Mario kart...   SuperCrash64
Welcome Fellow readers, and Review reviewers, This is gonna be a start of me reviewing The gcn games, Yep that's right A week determined, for me to write reviews for some gcn classics. Anyways on the topic of Gcn classics, Here we look at one of the most unique gems for the System. This is Mario Kart Double dash. A must play for you're Mario kart collection or Game cube game collection.
(On a side note to the readers:
I'm gonna use a different type of format for this review, so excuse me if this one looks different then many of my other ones.)
Graphics:
Now what Can I really say about the visuals here, They Are awesome for a Game cube Release!. Because this game was not only released before Mario kart Wii, but it intends to look very similar to the newer released "Mario Kart Wii."
(The Character Design:
Just look at the character designs. If you look at past versions of Mario kart games, They were of course pretty good, and improved over time over their past games, Like Mario kart 64, Having Less choppy feel over Super Mario kart for the Snes, etc. That's an example right there. The characters in Mario Kart double dash Have A pretty nice variety of characters to choose from, And Just look the eyes and facials, there are a lot More Noticeable Tweakings on the eye's and Facial Hair, and of course this has a lot of smooth and very vibrant texture on them as well, Even for a Very Old timed Gem like this one. I have to say the Characters have aged and still fitted very well, With Much more features that makes this game look a lot more crispy, vibrant, more noticeably detailed, and Just overall, The Characters look very polished with a Smooth cartoonist feeling when you use them.)
(The Karts:
Now When Mario Kart Double Dash was released, Nintendo Took their game up a little bit more with the Small features, Like the karts. Now let's compare the previous Released Mario karts(I'll use Mario kart 64 since I know that game the best.) The Karts on that game weren't that Attractive, or noticeable. They just looked like you're adverage type of Mini kart or something to me. Nintendo Improved the Karts Big time. Now in Mario Kart double dash, one thing I didn't mention yet, Was that you Control two characters, in one kart. Nintendo Made it very Fixelable, were 2 characters are riding on the kart perfectly, Because You're first character is to be most likely the driver, and the second character is the backseat driver or something, So in a way, it works just fine. The karts were uniquely Designed and Looked a whole lot different, They were Bigger meaner, and Looked a lot nicer. Let's look at Mario and Luigi's Kart Were designed to Match their colored outfits, and to tell each other apart, Nintendo added a Various Logo, Like Mario's Hat m, or Luigi's L on his cap. So It looks and feel very natural and it works very well too.)
(The levels:
I've always Enjoyed the Various Levels and their design. one of My favorite Stages Was "Baby Park" (at least that's what I remember it was called.) It had what you'd probably expect in a Park, but You ride on laps, The stage's pattern was designed very nicely, and Most Importantly, I really liked the small rollercosters at the top of the Stage(which is visible through the celling of the stage.) that was My favorite part of the stage, It just Made the name"Baby Park" Dazzle and spazzle. In other words: it made a Very nice touch the that stage. It just made me go wow when I first played it through an emulator(yea unfortunately, I didn't have it on a real system, but as they say"emulation comes pretty close".))
Break Down, of what I liked about the graphics:
I enjoyed the various changes in the kart/rides.
I enjoyed the Nice amount of little detail from within each stages.
I've enjoyed really the improvements of all this game had to offer.
Break down, of what I Disliked about the graphics:
I didn't enjoy some of the side tracking parts and slippery parts on some stages like Dk's mountain, It just made a bad experience when I first played this game, especially trying to land on places without falling.
Overall Graphics are getting a sold nine out of ten.
Sound:
I really enjoyed various Sound effects, They fitted the characters Nicely, and The amount of crashes, Helped me During the game play and playthroughs of this game, when I was unlocking various characters. It made me laugh, Made me get excited too. Overall this made my day when playing Mario Kart dd.
Now I can't review the soundtrack, because I didn't hear it(emulator issues:() so If I reviewed this section, It would be a lie, or I would have to you tube the entire vgms out of the soundtrack( And I don't have a an actual game cube or wii that supports game cube) so pretty much I can't review this section :(
Sound: get's a ten.
Addictiveness:
I really enjoyed, The Amount of Power ups, The tricky amount of courses, and the cool features that made this game Fun for me to play. for those reasons alone, This game had gotten me in a good mood, very addicted to it, and I would play it for many hours, while I still could.
Addictiveness get's a eight.
Story N/A This is a racing game. There are no Story lines in racing game, just a plot to get trophies and what not.
Depth:
Known for So many Features, Unlock able characters and karts, With Various Tracks to race into, and even going into reverse mode part of this game.
This game should keep you Busy for a Long time, if you intend to unlock everything, and beat the courses.
Depth get's a Soild Ten.
Difficulty:
unlike Mario kart ds, or Mario kart wii, This game Has a fairly easy challenge to it, It won't have no annoying blue shell constantly coming at you, or Enemies annoying you almost the entire time you are racing. So in other words yea.. The Ai isn't all that difficult, It's actually pretty darn easy to beat.
Difficulty get's a five rating.
Overall Mario Kart Double Dash, is a very solid game, that you should add to you're gcn collection, or Mario kart collection, It's unique and different from all of the others, in a nice fashion that makes it fun to play, so Yea I would recommend getting this for you.
Overall rating: This game gets a Perfect ten, There's nothing really more for me to say about this classic, expect that you should give it a try.
ok that's it for now bye.

Two for the price of one game   THErealFRED
Alright so its been a while but I decided that I was going to start back to doing video game reviews and to start that off I decided that I would do a review of the very first game on the very first system that I ever owned via bought it and that game is: Mario Kart Double Dash on the Nintendo GameCube (by the way is it spelled GameCube or Game Cube, oh well I'm just probably going to call it GCN most of the time anyways)
Like always the first thing to be talked about is the Graphics and HOT SLAM this game looks really good even for todays standards I'm not sure what it is but the GCN had the ability to make games look really good and a lot of games still look really good today. The thing that makes this game look really really good is that it has some bright colorful graphics and the worlds are greatly detailed kind of like Super Mario Sunshine (possible foreshadowing a future review), the character animations looks really nice and fluid and you could tell that Nintendo took time out to make this game great and that's nice because this was the first and I think only Mario Kart game on the lunchbox (don't quote me on that). One of my favorite areas in the game to go to just because of the fact that it showcases how well the game looks and the amount of detail that was put in is DK Mountain man does that place look good, but ya all of that gives the games Graphics a combined total of 9 out of 10.
And now is the Sound, well like most people who played this game as a kid over the years should know that the flippen title theme is a ear worm and WONT GET OUT OF MY HEAD. So ya the sound, mainly the music is really good I personally like the sound that plays when a area is being shown off before the race starts, but I also like the sound of some of the karts mainly the sound you can hear when you get the karts ready to go before the start of a race. Another sound that sounds nice is the sound of when you hit someone else's kart when you have the star power up it sounds PERFECT, I gave the sound a high rating because I know that a lot of songs are stuck in my head but I cant really say which song go to where, I know a simple YouTube search would hold all the answers but oh well. So what is the high rating I gave this game a 9 out of 10 that's what.
Next up to be told to the world is the Addictiveness of this game, well this game in the right hands can the addictiveness of the week (not sure if that made any sense........) but this game is a great game to play with a bunch of friends in one room. Mario Kart has always been a game (like Mario Party) that is best played as a party game rather then a solo game, but not saying the single player isn't fun it is but its best to have the company of other in the wake to really enjoy the true nature of this game. Here's some little trivia for all of ya out there you know how I said this game is a better multi player game then single player well this game originally had a online aspect to it Mario Kart was one of only 3 titles on the GameCube to support this kind of sorta awesomeness what's the other games to support online Kirby Air Ride and 1080 Avalanche, I have not played either one of them so don't expect a review of 'em. The online is still playable today I think you just need a LAN connection, its also fun to complete the world cups and get new characters or even try to get the best times in the time trial mode if you know your in to that kind of stuff. But ya that's the addictiveness of this game, oh and did I mention that its pretty addictive to hit someone in first place with a blue winged shell MAN that never gets old but anyways I give the Addictiveness a 7 out of 10.
There is no Story of this game NEXT (but what I want to know is how many Koopas they murdered to get all the green, red and blue shells that they have in the game 0.o)
Alrighty then so the Depth of this game this game isn't as deep as like any game ever made by Bethesda (horrible comparison) but for what Mario Kart is at its core A.K.A a racing game its pretty deep it doesn't have a high over arcing story line to offer so it can be short if your really good at racing games and like I said before its a racing game so in game there's not that much to explore but one thing that this game has that most racing game has is.......... a single player/multiplayer hybrid mode, ok this is hard to explain but ill try my best so this is where the title comes in to play (get it play haha I'm funny) Double Dash is the awesome part of this game. Mario Kart up to that point in time had only one kart race in one kart but is this game its two players per kart which means you can have two power ups at once kind of like Super Mario World which means that there is a endless combinations of items you can have from Mystery Boxes to Fire balls to HUGE CHAIN CHOMPS WHAT WRECK SPIT UP so ya there's many different things you can get it. And like I said before there's also a multi player aspect of it to as you can have another person with you that controls the other Karter, Kartist, or whatever the word would be for someone who rides/ drives in a kart, but anyways they can control the other kart person and you two can flip who drives and who uses the power ups with a push of a button. And like stated before (kind of sorta) there's a separate option to play a split screen multi player which has the basic modes like balloon pop, to split screen races, and a shine mode to see who can get and keep a shine sprite until a timer goes down. All in all this game is deep as a bottomless pit in its own right, and its rights gives it Depth rating a 8 out of 10
So how is Mario Karts Difficulty, is it as hard as F- Zero GX or as easy as driving around and taking in the sights of a GTA game well......... its kind of a bit of both really its hard on the harder difficulty, duh, but on the easier difficulties its really easy there isn't a lot of rubber banding (A.K.A the process of which a CPU keeps up on your tail to make the race a close one and not a cake walk, in which case the cake would be a lie) but there is some and its more noticeable on the higher difficulties but it can be a fairly easy game there isn't really any cheap attacks rather then of course the dreaded Blue Winged Shell and the Specials like the Chain Chomps that Chain and Chomp everything with in a hundred mile ratios of it and the moon but its a bit of a laid back game (but in a good way). And the controls arnt as cryptic so that's an even better thing so taking all that in consideration ill give the Difficulty a nice little 6 out of 10.
Whelp that's all she (or really he) wrote folks Mario Kart Double Dash is a great game that is enjoy as a single player or multi player game and is a joy just to look at this is the only Mario Kart game that I know of that has a two player per kart theme and its a shame because it works out so well and I hope Nintendo uses it again some day. But all in all Mario Kart Double Dash is a really fun game and any respectable GameCube or even Wii owner should own it to themselves and pick it up and play it, and then own it.

The Best Race Ever!!!   Mario0908
Mario Kart Double Dash, very fitting name for a very good game. Mario Kart Double Dash is a Mario racing game, there was Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. Both were good games but neither were like this. Instead of just one driver, you have a choice of two characters. Each character has it's own special item. Babies usually have the best items but the worst cars, adults such as Mario and Luigi have decent items and decent cars. Other adults such as Bowser and DK have good cars but not very good items. They always do it fair. There are many combinations of characters which will affect your car and special items. Let's get more into it.
This games graphics are really good. It's just that sometimes I feel like the characters look like clay or something. This usually happens after the race. Other than the character design being a little weird a have no problem with this game. Item pictures, kart design, course design, it's all perfect. At least to me it is.
Sound is good, it really does feel like racing music. Especially Rainbow Road, that one really makes it feel like you're flying above a city on a rainbow! But you can't forget about Sherbet Land! Sherbet Land has great music, it still maintains the fact that you're racing but it also transports you into a different world. It has a really good tune, I love it so much.
Addictiveness for this game is unbelievable. My family and I will play this game for 3 hours straight! It gets really competitive and a lot of fun! Playing battle mode and trying to kill each other. If we didn't have important things to do, we would probably play this all night. But it definitely does get boring after a while. It does begin to feel like you're just doing the same thing over and over again.
This game has no story. All you're doing is racing, there is no point to this game. There are tons of unlockables such as charcters and other tours. But there's no story, the real story is to have fun.
This game has unlockable characters such as Toad and Toadette. There is also an unlockable mirror mode where you do the courses backwards. You unlock this after you complete the all cup tour on 150cc and win. It is very hard I have never even done it before.
This game is very difficult if you are racing on 150cc. The level of difficulty is how fast it goes, computer difficulty and player combinations. All in all, that makes it really hard, especially in courses like Rainbow Road and Dino Dino Jungle.
I think this is a perfect game, possibly the best Mario Kart game I've ever played. With all the special items and really crazy karts. This game is filled with havoc and that is what makes it so much fun! The music, the courses, everything is amazing! This is mty family's favorite game that they have.

The Best Mario Kart   claytune
Are you ready for another really bias review? Good cause I'm not either but I'm doing it anyway Mario Kart Double Dash is the game for years I thought was likely to be my favorite game of all time before I played Persona 5 and that was proven wrong but with that being said let's dive into it!
Gameplay 10/10 -
The single thing that makes Double Dash stand out so much vs any other Mario Kart is the fact you have 2 racers on a kart and this affects a lot more than you would think. For starters Each character has their own special item only they can get from item boxes so the Mario bros for example have fireballs and Dk and Diddy have a giant banana. Something else that makes this game feel special compared to the other Mario Karts is the control the drift in this game feels really loose and I just love how it feels drifting on courses that you don't have much margin for error on. Double Dash's biggest defining feature is probably the sheer chaos that happens in a Double Dash race compared to if you played a typical race in Mario Kart Wii for example, there can be giant shells bouncing all over the place, giant bananas blocking the way forward, and red shells flung all over the course it's absolute chaos where anything can happen.
Graphics 9/10 -
Double Dash looks great for a GameCube title and the tracks are vibrant as ever. All the kart designs are nice to look at as well, if I had a complaint I would say the game could of used more karts if anything.
Sound 10/10 -
Double Dash has an amazing soundtrack it really sells the chaos of the gameplay with it's faster paced tracks still reminds you to stay on your toes for less chaotic tracks.
I really adore some of the voice acting in this title my favorite lines that I gotta sneak somewhere in here are Hi I'm Daisy! when you switch over to Daisy and of course who could forget Yeehaw! Hi I'm Daisy! whenever you win a race as Daisy. I also wanna highlight how intimidating Bowser's Castle feels as a song in this game it scared me half to death when I was a kid to race on the track cause it felt like Bowser was after me when the music goes from fun chaos to giving me the feeling of I made a mistake coming here for a friendly go kart race. I can't end this part of the review without talking about how magnificent the theme for Rainbow Road feels in this game it's so upbeat and almost relaxing in a way but I think it works somehow after all the chaos that is Double Dash for the theme to Rainbow Road to feel almost encouraging you to finish the final track.
Addictive 10/10 -
Double Dash is super replayable just due to how much fun the game is one of my favorite features in this game which I don't believe has returned since is All Cup Tour where you simply race on every track in the Grand Prix and besides the first and last track always being Luigi Circuit and Rainbow Road all the rest are random so sometimes the 2nd track you play could very well be Bowser's Castle. If you have friends and ever get tired of the normal races you can always switch to battle mode featuring Balloon Battle, Shine Thief, and Bob-omb Blast which are all fun ways to mix up the gameplay.
Depth 8/10 -
I already covered almost everything I wanted to with gameplay but a nice little detail that really helps make the game feel bigger which the designers definitely got from Super Mario Sunshine is that you can often see other tracks in the background and there's far to many examples to even try to start listing it's one of my favorite things about the game. You might wonder if I like Double Dash and what it has to offer so much why isn't Depth rated 10/10? Well something I can't argue for this game over newer titles is that this is the last Mario Kart before Retro Tracks started being a thing so this Mario Kart only has 16 tracks that being said I still think it's the best selection of new tracks in any Mario Kart. Another really cool feature that I wasn't sure where to bring up is the Co Op play that only really works with Double Dash where you and a friend can play as a driver and teammate so one person handles items and some drifting responsibilities while the other person handles driving and the other half of drifting. Playing this with some one can make you question your friends skills so be warned.
Difficulty 7/10 -
I'm not going to lie and say this difficulty rating doesn't seem right for a Mario Kart title but I swear maybe I've gotten rusty over the years but Double Dash is hard or maybe I'm just unlucky but when playing 150cc I would frequently get destroyed by the CPUs or by my luck which made 100% this game a nightmare some times.
Overall 10/10 -
Double Dash is perfect chaos and it's just pure fun I highly recommend giving it a shot with friends. My single wish in life is for a sequel to Double Dash or honestly even a Double Dash mode in the next Mario Kart I would have a huge reaction to that and it would make my year if it ever happens.
