Pleasantly surprised. Thought it would be a lot more expensive. Good on Nintendo.

Ooooh that's really cool. I definitely thought that it would have been a lot more expensive, more in line with the other new consoles, but that price seems fantastic. I have already been more hyped for the Switch than for any other console and now it looks like I might actually be able to get it. Can't wait. |

I'm not surprised by the price at all. I was heard from somewhere awhile back it would be somewhere between $250 to $299, looks like the latter one was right. The one thing I'm disappointed with is that they've joined the pay to play online club. I'll use the service, but I'm not happy about it. |

I'm, happy they kept the price on that. I am curious about the paid online services. Based on Nintendo's past, they don't do online gaming well. Hopefully this will be where they turn things around, because if the online sucks, I'm not paying for it. |

Price as expected.
Paid online (new industry standard) as expected. Pre-ordered as expected. All Nintendo had to do was not reveal that it will kill me once I start the console, and I was going to buy it. They successfully did it. Paid online (new industry standard) as expected. Pre-ordered as expected. I find the console, and other parts of the Nintendo switch weird....I took the time to watch it on twitch for like 3-4 hours. The controllers are so dam tiny to hold. I know a lot of people will buy it. But I watched trailers of games that was pretty much interesting. I can see some will be going to steam which is pretty good and can't wait to play on. |

I was hoping for a Price point around 250, but Overall I'm super excited with the possibilities of this system. I hope the potential is fully realized.
With regards to the paid online, that is now the industry standard and honestly I believe this will help them have a better online presence than before, which is something that us Nintendo fans have been complaining about for years with regards to the last few consoles online gaming platforms. It costs a lot of money to host these types of servers, so I am not against paying for it, as long as the service is solid. Eniitan : I think what you may be confused about is the small controllers are for when you play in tabletop mode or want to play multi-player on the go. Which for that type of application I believe the controllers serve their function.
The larger controller is used for when you play with the system docked, and they have several other style controllers that will be available for docked mode, including the pro controller. Well, since the announcing stream told us Europeans to ask in our local retailer, I guess the "paid online" part won't apply. Yay? As of today, the US price translates into less than €285. I'd have to search a bit, but I think that's like the price of the 3DS, so it's incredibly low for a fully fledged console. Also, it's like half the cost of an Xbox One or PS4, so either they didn't take this console to its limit (yet) or Nintendo is willing to lose money the first years of production to make up for the lost quota on the market. I'll have to wait and see if it gets any advertising here so I can confirm the price, but it will surely be around the same value as in 'Murica. I still think that putting it at €300 is a very good price for a new console, even more for a multi-purpose one like the Switch. As of today, the US price translates into less than €285. This would seem like a pleasant suprise at first but I actually consider it worrisome. I had the impression that it was going to be significantly more expensive based on some sites which allowed preorders. The only thing this makes me question (which I discussed in an article I wrote when it was first announced) is the actual quality of the console, if the portable battery is going to be enough to actually be sustainable or if it's truly going to be on par with the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in terms of graphics. Otherwise it would make wonder if they're going to be losing money from console sales. Since that was just revealed some conclusions can be drawn. Only having 32gb of built in storage would seem like a warning sign, but on the other hand games being in cartridge form somewhat counters that. However even if it's still on par that would limit the ability to download games so it is worrisome nonetheless. The battery life only being about 2.5-6 hours is what worries me. That doesn't really make it all too portable especially with something like Breath of the Wild according to Nintendo themselves draining it in about 3 hours (and that's when the console is fresh out of the box as well). It could lead to the problem of the portability becoming more of a gimmick that's used to market it in stead of something that's actually going to be practical and that's ignoring the fact that we don't know much about if it'll end up running as well in reality as shown in trailers. Maybe that's not going to matter to people who don't intend on taking it with them, but then the question remains in terms of why even including it in the first place if you're not going to be able to use it much. I'm starting to think Nintendo may be trying to do too many things at once with the Switch even if it still seems like a huge step in the right direction compared to the Wii U. All of that said, I think paid online is ultimately the best decision they could've made as a company. It has become the industry standard and it's going to be neccessary if they intend on contending with Sony and Microsoft. Hopefully it will allow them to make more of a push into online multiplayer games as well. Though I would hope this also means that they'll start giving out games monthly in exchange otherwise the price should be significantly lower than that of PSN or Xbox Gold. Zlinqx : 2-6 hours is pretty much on par with most portable consoles these days and really, if you are streaming something like Netflix on your Smartphone, does your battery last 3-6 hours?? Probably not.
Not only that, you are forgetting the fact that the Switch allows for MicroSD cards to upgrade memory up to 256gigs. Since most of the games don't require install like other consoles, I really doubt this is going to be much of an issue. Jordanv78 : Unless you're referring to the original 3ds it's a step down. I still don't see how it's relevant in that case as a regular 3ds is signficantly cheaper. It used to be the industry standard but it isn't anymore. Even so that battery can be extended quite a bit assuming you're not using the 3d function (which most don't) and not playing particularly demanding games. Bigger games specifically made for something like the 3ds xl like the OoT remake for exmple could still give you a decent length of 5-6 hours. Meanwhile a short length seems like it's going to be case with most major new games on the Wii U especially if it's already this short for a launch title at just around 2 1/2 to 3 hours. It's definitely not iving up to the expectations set by the trailer where you see someone playing something fairly demanding like Breath of the Wild on a flight unless it's a short flight. The problem is that it's likely also going to shorten more as it starts to wear. It's different with most phones as they usually weren't designed specifically to do demanding tasks like streaming netflix but rather as multipurpose devices that can do a little but everything without specializing at one particular task. I therefore wouldn't expect it to be able to be able to stream netflix for really long periods of time as that isn't the reason I bought it. The switch on the other hand is a gaming device and a big part of its marketing is being able to play games on the go. I'm not forgetting that it supports micro SD, that's why I specifically said "built in" storage space and not maximum possible amount of storage space that can be achieved. Either way an expensive additional purchase shouldn't be mandatory just to achieve a decent amount of storage space which is still inferior to that of the Xbox One and Playstation 4. It's a big deal considering how digital distribution is more and more relevant which was the point I'm making personally. The only real perk of buying physical copies is the resell value (aside from the collectors value which likely only some really dedicated fans are going to care about) and I think Nintendo need to accomodate those who keep a digital library. That's without factoring in how it's going to impact the viability of DLC and how it may lead to a performance difference compared to the Xbone and PS4 due to games not being installed on the console at all. Zlinqx : Well let's just say I really disagree with a lot of what you are saying with regards to battery life...I don't know of any portable console that would push this type of computing power that last more than 3-6 hours.
Also, since this system can carge via USB, that seems to be about as moot of a point as worrying that your cellphone will stay charged. Also, personally I own a 3ds original as well as a new 3DS XL, and I can tell you on max brigness settings and sound, the system specs are around 5-6 hours and the games are not nearly as extensive as these switch games look to be and how many versions did it take of the console till Nintendo got to that point with regards to the screen/resolution and battery life? Whats the max battery life of the Vita?? 5 hours? Still those games will not compare to what the Switch will be capable of, based on early spec information. Most high end smartphones these days CERTAINLY are built to stream video as one of their main functions to sell units. I know this because I have worked as a project manager building apps and hardware for mobile companies for a number of years now. How long does your iphone 7 or galaxy S7 last playing games and streaming movies??? Way Less than 6 hours, I can tell you that. with regards to the storage. I'm happy with what they did, as storage is one of the biggest costs with regards to building a console. With future 256GB is probably gonna be more than what you would need for this system and again is more in-line with mobile phone standards. The main thing here is that the system is only going to cost 300$ which is a huge win. Like I said before, I was hoping for 250$ but I still feel like this is a good price point. I do get what you are saying about Digital purchases, which is a fair point. The New Zelda game is rumored to be under 14 gigs, so still, I'm not worried about it overall. Basically because the maximum memory can easily be Also, since this system can carge via USB, that seems to be about as moot of a point as worrying that your cellphone will stay charged. Vanelan : Have you ever wanted to pay every month to keep your SNES and NES roms? Well Nintendo's test audience disagrees with you there. Paid Online is...Ugh. I am poor. Make it end please. Splatoon 2 looked fun. ;~; Paid Online is...Ugh. I am poor. Make it end please. Splatoon 2 looked fun. ;~; |

Vanelan : This, this, this. I was so excited for the Switch, but honestly the part about not even getting to keep your games turned me off of it, immediately. At least with PS+ I can continue playing Rocket League, and Resident Evil Remake HD.
