Is going to College and/or University even a choice, or does it not help at all? Does post-secondary education help in your life? Please share your thoughts. Your feedback is appreciated.

I'll definitely say that there are some courses you can take that will make you realize sooo much more about life and the world around you, this semester in learning so much from my psychology and accounting courses and they aren't even things that I would be using in my major. Of course, just getting a degree alone will help you so much in your life, regardless of whether or not you did well in the classes or even if it's stuff you already knew or don't care about.

I would say they are extremely beneficial. Where I live College and University are used in the same way, so I'm not sure what's being asked in regards to that. I avoided school like a plague and I wish I had made better choices in my youth. Not only do they provide a new perspective on many things, they help teach you how to deal with others, being independent, and many more lessons I don't feel like listing. If college wasn't so ridiculously priced (the price increase FAR outweighs the increase in cost to teach over the past 20 - 30 years), I probably would've made an effort to get in. I don't want to deal with all that student debt. But back to the point, college and post-secondary education are beneficial on a wide range of levels, from social to educational, and beyond.

It depends on what you want to do as a career, but I do believe it's worth going. I haven't gone yet, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what my path is going to be lol but I'm hoping it's in the cards in the near future.  It really just depends on what you hope to do, and what's needed to accomplish your goal.

Aside from the career boost (if you're from a renowned school and the HR uses that as their first filter for job applicants) and a wider list of contacts (that you reach out to either for job hunting purposes, family business related to your course if you have that, or just basically a wider group of acquaintances and close friends that could give you a bigger perspective about the world), we can't deny that Universities help people gain more knowledge specially from the professors who surely are respected and had already proven themselves in their chosen fields, so it's highly beneficial, much more so if your course really is your passion.

Now if you're in College solely for getting the diploma so you could work, I think that's a different matter( you can skip college altogether if that's the case) , but based on my experience during my years (I'd be graduating soon), attending my current University helped me develop and become a better person, not just the core skillsets for my course but also everything else. I also had a few professors that I could say I owe my current knowledge A LOT to, and I don't think I'd be the current ME today if not for them.

Considering people with college degrees earn, on average, over a million dollars more than GEDs, high school graduates, and non-grads, I'd say college is not a bad way to go.

When you get education, you get options.  You can learn to be what you really want to be and you're not stuck with a manual labor job, or something you hate because nothing is available.  Most people view college or university as a chance to party and go hang out, but it's a job.  You're learning about what you're really into, you're learning about how to live in a world where no one is breathing down your neck about work and class.  University teachers aren't like high school teachers.  They don't care if you get the work done or not, they just fail you if you don't.  They're also much more likely to help and guide and assist you in creating your own life because they have the time and want to give the effort.  High school teachers, as wonderful as they are, are spread too thin by (American) time standards with expectations and job requirements.  They can affect a few students after class but there's not nearly the availability compared to college professors.

I'm currently hiring people for several positions at my job.  Anyone who has no degree, no B.S. or B.A. or can't check "some college" is automatically disqualified.  I won't even look at you if you only have a high school diploma.

Post-Secondary Education is a game changer.  It's what is needed to succeed at the next level.

It's defeinitely a need for me. Especially for the career path that I've chosen, which is to be a prosecutor. So not only do I have to go to college, but I have to go to Law School afterwards. (Kill me). Heh, but I really want to become a prosecutor, so I gotta do what I can to obtain that career.

It all really depends on the job you want in your life, in my opinion.

Personally, I think going to college is good, and in the end it does allow you to make more money than someone with a high school diploma. It's definitely worth it in my opinion, and if you work and get your GPA decently high and also get involved in clubs and stuff during your high school years, you can get a scholarship :3. Even if you don't get much scholarships, I still think it's worth it (unless you get a degree in something where there's very few opportunities for a job). And personally, I am totally gonna go to college. I want to work in computer science, possibly with coding, and that requires some college (usually a 4-year degree for coding). Besides, I don't want to take my chances with sightly above minimum age jobs.

I have college degrees, Associates, Bachelors and Masters. I will tell you by all means it was worth it. However, it was needed in my field since I'm in the science field. But I have found my Masters has helped me in my advocacy for Autism rights that I do on the side. It has helped me organizing presentations, speaking, connecting with the audiences

Also most places pay higher if you have a college degree of some kind. In addition, having a degree could lead to an opportunity to move up the pole in a company or job.

Now with all that being said, there are some jobs that can make real good money without a degree. But they might require you to learn a trade or pick up a certificate. You basically have to ask yourself what do I want to do for a career? Is my career going to require a degree?

Anyway as I guy who has been there and done that. I hope this helps

I would actually like to go to a university but I don't see that happening. The last time I went to a school that was college for me and I was 18 years back then. Since then I've been at home for most of my years doing nothing....sounds sad right? I'm sure it would to you in a way. But I have come to understand as of why. As much as I would love to go to university I can't so its best to do what I can do at home. I learn what I need too from my laptop since I would be like trying to start up my own businesses and stuff. I hope for them to get going very soon. '-'

Actually,in a way,I am doing that. I am taking a Medical Billing course. You have to remember,a HS diploma really is not jack !@#$ any more. That is usually 2nd to bare minimum next to a GED. We all need a skill or something that we want to do. Maybe you are good with your hands, try getting into the building trades. Maybe you are good with computers, get into learning to use Word,Excel,Powerpoint, etc.

Bottom line: Most places will require additional criteria such as a BS,a certification,a degree. Most places see it as you can learn and be taught.

I definitely plan on attending university. I only view what I'm doing now as preparation for that time, not just in terms of studies but obtaining part time job experience as well and becoming more independent. No one in my close family has gotten a degree of any sort (I come from a working class family) so I intend to be the first. The way I see it, I'm doing it to make my family proud as much as I am doing it for myself. I would consider it worth it. Especially if you have a clear view of what you want to do since it will be very difficult to get a well paying or decent job without it unless you happen to have very good connections. Pretty much everyone in my family seems to regret not getting a degree or at least not making more of an effort to take their studies seriously. They may have still managed to get decent jobs but it took them way longer than it would've otherwise and not having a degree still stands in the way of a lot of things like higher pay or better working conditions.

Having said that, it also depends on what kind of degree you intend on going for. From my impression some degrees for example international relations and philosophy (both of which are interesting subjects to me) don't seem to lead to any real jobs related to the subject most of the time. They're too abstract, having little direct real world application. That's not to say that it's impossible if one is able to do extraordinary well, but realistically one isn't going to be in that top 1%. Couple that with the fact that in some countries (like the US) you have to pay tuition to attend and it can easily result in you possibly having an enriched perspective but have massive debt without really increasing your chances of getting a job. In that case I wouldn't consider it worth it, from an economic perspective. Some subjects seem better pursued as a hobby.

Lots of jobs require university education so I think it should be required that you go.

Pokemonfan1000 : If everyone went to college, it would be the new high school diploma. The reason people go to college is because they believe they'll get a better paying job in the long run. As I've said before, everything is supply and demand and that doesn't exclude employees. making it a requirement would lessen the value of said employee's skills because employers can pay them less because those skill are more plentiful.

m0ssb3rg935 : I didn't even think of that. It makes sense college is optional so that people don't lessen the value of those college required jobs.

People say that you earn an average of one million dollars more in your life with a degree but what they won't tell you is that out of that million dollars half of it goes to tax and the other half goes to paying for the college. At the end of the day though it sure beats scrubbing toilets at McDonalds for a living.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
