I never played a Final Fantasy game but i hear how awesome the series is so i was wondering which one is good place to start in the series

As far as I can tell you, I would start with either 4, 6, or 7. Those are typically regarded as the best games in the series.

4 is regarded as good mostly because it was the first Final Fantasy game released in North America with actual defined characters and a plot. It also pioneered the Active Time Battle system, which has persisted through the entire rest of the series in some way.

6 is regarded as one of the best because it had a well-written plot, well-defined characters with actual personalities and distinct talents, a well-designed magic system, and it was just overall excellently designed. It's more difficult than Final Fantasy 4, but it's far prettier and has a lot more polish to it.

7 is regarded as the best by quite a large number of people, probably because it was a lot of people's first Final Fantasy game. It was also the first Final Fantasy game on a CD-based console using 3D graphics, which were great for the time the game was released. The magic system is similar to Final Fantasy 6 in a way, but it's different in a great way. And then, there's the characters, which a lot of people were able to easily sympathize with and get attached to. I can't tell you how many people I've seen talking about how Aeris's death made them cry. It may not be my favorite in the series, but so many people love it the most.

Final Fantasy VI (6) was probably the best (and last) of the 2D pixelated Final Fantasy games. Excellent story and a well designed battle system. And the best songs in the entire series.

My personal favorite, though, is Final Fantasy X. It had some amazing and atmospheric music and a unique battle system that was turn-based, but also real-time (I know, it's magic). Basically every different attack or ability used a different "speed value." Every battle showed the attack order for each character/enemy on the right side of the screen. Depending on which attack you used, the attack order would change. It's very interesting and fun. I didn't care much for the story, though (except for Sin, the awesome space whale).

If you're more used to morden games, I'll say FFX onwards.

I'm an old fashioned guy and I'm not really that big of a Final Fantasy fan, but my favorite game to play from the series was the very first one for the NES. It was a very easy, straightforward game to play for me. The battle system is somewhat simple to follow, too.

If anyone was to try a Final Fantasy game for the first time, you might as well start with the original ( especially since you can play it on here ). But again, its just all my opinion.

All the suggestions here are good but I recommend starting with Dawn of Souls (I think that is what it is called) on the gba.  It is FFI and FFII the originals but updated.  FFI on nes was b4 rpgs had the gui's figured out and other annoying things that can take away from the story and fun the game has to offer.  FFII or III on nes aren't worth playing. All Snes final fantasy games are good.  I also like 7 and 8 but haven't really played any newer than that.

I would say a good starting point would be either Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, IX or X. All those games have excellent storylines, Amazing soundtracks, and great characters. As long as you don't start with the abomination known as II, or anything after Final Fantasy X, you're in for an amazing experience.

For each eras

Nintendo: Final Fantasy III. I believe it is The first one to have explanations of The game mechanics early on
Super Nintendo: Final Fantasy IV. Not only is The storyline excellent, but you also learn about game mechanics in a much smoother way
Modern: Final Fantasy X. Yes, you have to play quite a bit before actually learning about The game mechanics but it is done in The best way up until that point (i.e. directly inside a fight to learn that jellys are weak to elemental magic).

I would go with X, of the few that I have played, that one was the most fun and the easiest to get into so I would give that one a try if I were you.

Final Fantasy IV is by far the best start, it's the first game to really have a good story in the series, I would personally recommend the GBA or PSP versions, or DS version if you want an extra challenge and voice acting. My personal favorite game in the series is VI, and while it's a good start, I'd recommend it as a 2nd or 3rd game just because of how heavy the story is.

I personally feel, if you are going to get into a series and start playing them, there's no other place to start than the VERY beginning. So start with the first NES game, then move from there. If you are into RPG's I'm sure you will enjoy almost all of them.

Not only that, starting from the beginning gives you an idea of where the series started all the way through where it is now.

I suggest Mystic Quest for the SNES, it isn't like the other Final Fantasy games, because it is linear. If you are good at finding your way in RPGs, then I would start with the first game, but the remake on the Game Boy Advance is the version you should play.

TristanTehGamer1 :   Like most people say, start at the first one and keep on going from there.  They are all wonderful in their own way, and no one is like the others...for the most part.  I personally preferred six and eight myself, but they are all great games that should be played by any rpg fan out there

I would say start with 4, 6, 7, or 9 (these are ones you can play here - or 10 if you can get it) since they are the most loved of the series. Many peoples passion for FF came from the fact the first of them they played drew them in so much. I'd hate to see you start with one of the lesser well done games, and not feel the rest of the franchise is worth checking out or give them the recognition they deserve. It's all a matter of opinion though which would be your favorite or if you really like them at all.
