The earth was made in six days. Fine. I'll accept that.

Now it's your turn. ALEIM, (the Hebrew word King James translated as "God" in Genesis) is feminine plural. (Masculine singular would be EL, Masculine plural would be ELIM.)

So tell me... If you believe in "the Trinity" as an explanation of why ALEIM is plural... Why was it feminine? Was Jesus a female? Or was God?
Or would you rather concede; Wherever it says God, in the old testament, it should read "Goddesses".

I'll offer 2 possible explanations.... not meaning I believe either of them...

1. Maybe the female plural can include males. In Spanish you can have 10 women and the moment you add a man into the mix the plural becomes male. I don't understand enough about Hebrew language to know if that could be a factor or not... but it's an idea .

2. Maybe there are both male and female gods. The Bible says we are made in the image of "God" (which would have been a plural I assume?)... so if male and female were made in the image of a plural god then that could suggest that God is a male and female deity.

Careful, Geeogree, you're starting to tread into my neck of the woods.

But yes, interesting thing to bring up, Lowell. I shall have to consult some of the Hebrew-speakers at my boyfriend's work and find out more.

heh, I don't see why I need to be careful. I see no good reason why a Goddess is out of the question. Just because "traditional christians" don't believe in a female God doesn't mean there can't be one. There have been thousands of years of Goddess worship (mostly underground as far as I know) so I take that as an indication that either God is female or there are both male and female Gods/Goddesses.

If God is omnipotent, isn't it very well possible that he is a she, or she is a he, or both all at once? And perhaps the male pronoun is used in the English language because calling God "it" isn't quite as impressive, lest respectful.

From a purely linguistic perspective, I do say there's a possibility. And let us not forget, even when the bible is the word of God, mankind is not without fail, and it is indeed possible that mistakes have been made in copies and translations of the scripture.

So I do not think that this topic would be something that anyone should get upset with. Isn't the most important whether or not one believes in the first place?

Would God smite you if you were to imagine him or her the wrong gender? I think not. Especially considering how there once was declared that there shall be no images made of him/her, yet many have attempted to capture his or her essence in the works of art.

But that's just my 2 cents, carry on.

I'm not sure about the whole Aliem thing, I'm no Bible scholar. But I do want to point something out. Elsewhere, more often than you see Aliem, you see God as "Abba", Father. As for Christ, He is a man. He's the Son of God, the Son of Man, Jesus Bar-Joseph, proof that He lived as a human male is found throughout the New Testament. What I'm saying is, it makes more sense to view God as a male entity, as there's more proof for that found in the Bible than proof that God might be female. That's just my take on it, but it's the best I've got, seeing as God is not human and has no physical body for us to see, making comprehension of His having a gender a little difficult. You don't have to agree, that's just the best I've got.

Or intentional changes/omissions in order to hide the truth. I highly doubt that every single person that was involved in translating or copying the earliest of christian texts didn't make any changes. In fact the second and third centuries for the Christian religion was full of disagreement and fighting within.

Plus I personally see no reason why there can't be a God and a Goddess. Nearly every animal in the world is male/female... why would God make a world this way when he/she/it is only 1 gender (or no gender). Seems strange to me. Doesn't prove anything, but is odd to me

Genesis 1:5
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

1 Corinthians 1:3
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1:10
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

1 Corinthians 8:6
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Genesis 1:16
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Hundreds of other verses.

Also note that Jesus is God in a human form and bible says if you see the face of Jesus, you see the face of God.

Of course, this is all from a Christian standpoint and doesn't apply for other religions since my quotes and knowledge are from the Holy Bible.

well i understand your statements but just like your father has a name, you might call him dad or father but he has a true name that he was given.you might want to study a little more look at the national geographic channel and compare and contrast with other books besides the bible.if something is proven by two or more different ways or people then you will be able to see(maybe if its for you)the truth.do you even know of the books that were tooken out of the bible.go to ask and look up yhwh and do some studying and we might can be on the same page, just maybe, but you know you have to study and religion actually means worship.so are people suppose to worship the pastor or the One that was worshipped by Moses,Abraham,Issac, and Jacob?

I find it interesting how much opposition there seems to be to the idea of a female God.

Is it really that blasphemous that there might be a Goddess and a God?

I just go by what the bible says, I take it as literal truth and it since it says there's 1 single God, that's what I believe. I don't expect anyone else to believe what I believe but I also expect people to respect what I believe as I've given respect to others (I'm not saying anyone has disrespected me yet but I've been attacked many times in the past for giving my view on this sort of stuff).

God is a nothing I don't think God can be labeled male or female but male would be a better fit as the males are usual the ones in charge and make the rules, but females are the creators and give birth to new life so god I think is considered a combo of both. We might call him father, but ultimately he has the power of both male and female.

JUDAH, no such thing as proof or truth when these texts have been passed down from thousands of years ago there is no way to tell what is real and what isn't unless you were there when it happened.

National Geographic is a magazine, they can put any kind of spin they want on how they want the audience to see things.

And this is where we disagree... I think the Bible teaches about 3 Gods. And I don't see a reason why there couldn't also be a female couterpart to the Father God figure.

But I don't think this is something that is overly important in the long term. I simply leave the possiblity open that a female God exists. I don't worship one or spend time trying to find evidence for it.

I agree with geo partly, I also believe there are several "gods" around but I think ultimately there has to be the one that everyone talks about, the one that is most superior.

well, not even most "superior" exactly.... at least not in my mind... but more like... God of our world. The other Gods don't care about us because we're not theirs.

Yea I see what you mean, gets confusing though because they can be child gods. Just like a family tree, someone has to be at the top. If there are infinite amount of worlds then a superior god might not exist after all but if there are limited amounts of worlds then I think a superior god will exist.

I guess you can look at it this way, my dad is the god of me, his dad was the god of him etc... an infinite loop backwords but if there is an end to this process then there is the superior god I think, according to my crumby calculations lol
Yea I see what you mean, gets confusing though because they can be child gods. Just like a family tree, someone has to be at the top. If there are infinite amount of worlds then a superior god might not exist after all but if there are limited amounts of worlds then I think a superior god will exist.

I guess you can look at it this way, my dad is the god of me, his dad was the god of him etc... an infinite loop backwords but if there is an end to this process then there is the superior god I think, according to my crumby calculations lol

and that's where it gets really tough and confusing...

how are we as mortal finite beings supposed to understand eternity and infinity?

which is why I leave as many doors open when it comes to religion as possible.

The main problem with a lot of the arguments is that you are going off of what you have read in the English translations while Lowell is discussing what the meaning is in Hebrew. If there is one thing that I have learned through the study of foriegn language it is that things do not translate well into English all the time. Hence why I want to talk to someone fluent in Hebrew.
