Hello, people from the land of V! Welcome back to another Debate thread! Now, I don't wanna cause any drama, I just want to share my opinion.

Anyway, is peace between Palestine and Israel possible? Well, Israel took over Palestine in 1948. Well, don't call this a 'war'. It's worse than a war. Israel killed many Palestinians, they even took several ones into jail. Now, is peace between Israel and Palestine possible? I say it's possible, but it will take too much time, too much work. I know hope is everywhere, and nothing is impossible. In your opinion, is peace between those two countries are possible? Well, I remember doing a World Peace thread last time, but this one is a little different, because the topic between Palestine and Israel has been Controversial.

Anyway, is Peace between them possible? Post your opinions below!

greenluigi : Green, please don't call them Jews and say they went on to kill people; true Jews know to be NICE ;w;. I know you mean no harm and know that most Jews are nice, but PLEASE edit this out! You know less about how the world views this topic than I do, and we can continue this talk via PM if you'd like :3. Try to make it sound less negative against Israel, andYES, I believe peace is entirely possible.

Peace between anyone is possible as long as all parties are willing. But there we have our problem. In the end peace will just be an ideal. I'd love to see it happen but I'm doubtful world peace will ever actually happen. And if it does, not within my life time.

Frodlex : I guess we're in the same boat, then. There's a very low chance we might have World Peace, but it will definitely take many years. I think Palestinians are working on peace, but they're expecting too soon on having it.

When religion, history, and culture step in to a big picture, there's a real challenge to stop conflict.  Imagine a group of people who are anti-Christianity get plopped down the middle of Alabama by the Argentinians.  That's kinda what happened with the creation of Israel after World War II.  Displaced Jews had land carved out for them and they were placed in fairly prime religious real estate from the Muslim perspective.

I can understand the anger of the Palestinian community.  It makes sense.

War is an extension of politics and as long as there are people, there are politics.  As long as there are politics, there is warfare.

Peace?  Possible?  Yes.  In the event of an "Independence Day" style alien invasion or zombie outbreak, cultures will come together to share a common enemy.  Until that happens, peace won't happen.

I personally think that both Israel and the state of Palestine won't make any kind of peace anytime soon. both Israel and Palestine has been at war since the late 1940's and there isn't any end in site between both places.

Although they have been multiple times that we have seen peace between both Israel and Palestine (because both the United States and Israel want to make a ceasefire from Palrstine), but they all never manage to gain total peace because months later, they both start attacking one another again. Especially Clinton, Bush (Jr.), and Obama wanted to make some progress of peace over there, and as of this point, little has been done to settle this conflict once and for all. I think to my point of view, peace between both areas could happen, but it's so far off into the future, I don't think it will be settled in our lifetimes.

Sure, some people think this could be a modern day "Hundred Years' War" (if you know your history, the Hundred Years' War was a war that lasted 116 years between England and France) and already, the war between Israel and Palestine has been going on for half of that, so, it might be possible that this could be another Hundred Year's War.

Not all wars last forever like I mention above, peace could happen to both areas, but not right now by the looks of it.

It will be once both sides drop the Holy Books. Both claim to be entitled to the land because their book says so.

Also, it would help that Israel's neighbors finally accept that Jews are there to stay. Although the scale of the operations is opened for discussion, they have rarely (if at all) initiated violence.

nope for several reasons..

1) there is no such thing as Palestine.
2) As long as the Muslims want to kill all the Jews there won't be peace.

Simple as that.

geeogree : While yes, "Palestine" as we know it is quite recent (the 6-days war, was it?), the original Israel still called for a partition of the territory between Jews and Muslims/Arabs. I don't see that succeed though...

geeogree : I know what you mean and I agree that "Palestine" doesn't exist - well, wasn't it the name of the British mandate in the region?

Anyway as I said, as long as religion is too strong in the region peace will be impossible.

greenluigi :

Israel couldn't have "taken over Palestine" because it didn't exist. The UN took over Palestine. Then they made a really crappy division in land, dividing the area into Israel and Palestine. Then, as Egypt, Syria, and Jordan were massing troops on the boarder, Israel hit them all with preemptive air strikes. Then Israel won in 6 days. Israel took possession of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights. It gave back the Sinai to Egypt from 1978-82. The rest remain in possession of Israel.

Palestine claims the West Bank and the Gaza strip. Israel took them from Egypt and Jordan, not from Palestine. I wouldn't object to recognizing the state of Palestine as those two provinces. The whole incident started due to UN decisions. I think to revoke a decision would cause a mass exodus of Jews who would fear death. Instead, we should just support a sovereign Israel and peace in the area. Again, I might accept a sovereign Palestine on the condition that they establish peaceful relations with the state of Israel.

I can't see Palestine and Israel making peace anytime soon, especially if both sides keep killing each other. The only way that peace could be remotely possible is if there is a very long cease fire then there could be a remote chance which honestly I just don't see happening. I think Israel and Palestine will continue to fight each other for years to come...

Of course it's possible, it's just not likely.

Muslims believe they have a claim on the place. But so do the Jews. And ultimately, this is why wars are fought. Two peoples believe that they are right, and won't give in. I support Israel, not necessarily because Britain gave it to them, but because I hold a lot more similar beliefs to the Jews. And that's it really.

greenluigi: That wouldn't happen. A stronger Palestine, as Palestine stands right now, would simply mean the annihilation of Israel. Too many high-ranked people in Palestine (and especially in surrounding countries) still reek of primitive antisemitism.

No, I am not excusing Israel's possible war crimes. However, let's not forget that it's the only "free" country of the area.

janus :

Hey, we agree for once! =)

Israel seems content to simply stay within their own boarders. Israel has launched many retaliation strikes, but very few preemptive strikes (and I think they are often justified). I don't support the creation of Israel in 1947, but I can't support removing Israel either. The creation of Israel did make a lot of these problems, but since it's already happened we're past the point of no return.
