I have been playing the Console version of mine craft alot lately on my ps3 and Vita and have been thinkign about trying the pc version but I just had a few worries.
First off I hear the game has a nearly endless world space, so the first worry is how big the game is on its own.  So how big is the game and how much room do ya need to be able to really play it.
On a related note to above, do you need to be online in order to play? Or is it like STEAM where ya log on and then Tada no worries if say someone uses the microwave and kills your wireless signal? [My area of dwelling is RIGHT by the kitchen so the micro is a huge problem for me.]
Second: what sort of mods do you guys suggest for someone more focused on exploration adn battle than construction?
[sure ill build a house, and set up the basic stuff, but My main focus is seeing whats around the next corner and.. oh look a cave!  Wait.. what was I saying?]
On a semi related note did the ever add an item that lets you teleport back to spawn?  My biggest issue in Console mine craft was getting lost and spending hours trying to find my bloody house. [specially once you have been killed and now have no map X_X]
Thanks for the help and for reading all of this.
to anyone who does play on the playstation 3/ vita servers My psn is the same as my name here.
also great to be back again for what the... fifth time now?

The game is only 1 MB large, if that.

The save file sizes might be larger, but I wouldn't expect them to get larger than 15-20 MB. Hopefully that means it won't be a problem for you in terms of file-size.

As for internet, you don't need it to play. That is, obviously, if you're playing single-player. If you're playing on an online server, you'll need to stay connected. The very first time you play, you need an internet connection to log in, even for single-player. After that, you won't need one.

Both single-player and multiplayer are fantastic, so I wouldn't worry about that either.

I'll let someone else answer your question about mods, since I don't enough about them.

Well thats good to know, My main worry has been that so many games need online at all times, and that if anything glitches then poof im gone.  That has happened alot to me in games like Sould calibur broken sword and has even gotten me warnings on a few multiplayer games.  [Lost net during a few fighting games and got penalized a few times.  Look im ok with a loss, its how ya get better. ]
glad to know mine craft doesn't have that problem. thanks ^^ I dont play online often [mostly due to the net problem, when im alone in the house I LOVE to play with people.  But that bloody microwave.. XD]
thanks for the help

No problem!

I'm sure there are certain Minecraft Servers that are angry at disconnections. It depends on what the server is about. On most servers, you're just building, so it won't be a problem.

For the first few months, I only played single-player on Minecraft. I loved it.
But I do think that online play is something you'll check out at least once after you get the full version of the game.

Explore some caves. That's always fun.

Once you get more experience it will get a lot faster.

I ended up being able to create a house, crafting table, pickaxes, swords, and find a source of food all within the first day/night. I'm sure I've only gotten faster at it, so I could probably do more if I needed to.

ah yes it seems just so improbably.. but still.. a Sand island, with a dirt block house.  I even managed the sand and water and made a garden using the ocean as a water source.    Oddly enough id made the Hoe before figuring out the sword so I had gotten future stuff set pretty well ahead of my normal time to be honest.
Until some NPC villagery thing showed up and threw potions into my hosue that killed me.  That was unexpected XD haha   there I am managing my farm, and a villager walks up.. pelts me with a coupel bottles, and I die.
that sucked XP
I know not that those were the witches, a random enemy I hadn't met yet in games XD

I'm aware that I'm probably posting on a dead thread here but have been playing the console game again a lot lately.   Are the skin packs for textures and characters that you can get in say.. The ps3 version.. Able to be found on the pc one?  Cause I'm just having a blast with the Greek mythology mash up that was added lately.

It depends on what you are looking for. I would say that there's a lot more available skins and packs for the PC version though, literally many many more.

Any suggestions on places with easy to install stuff?  I have had comp minecraft for a little while as of now but I see all this.. "forge" stuff and I have no idea what that is -laughs-
Please all of you continue to be the best sort of tutorial I could ask for XD.

More specifically id like packs that add plants and animals at the moment.   I am very much a random creature watcher and am probably the only person who used the Console versions creative mode to follow MOBS around out of curiosity.

I'm in the same boat as you - or was, seeing as you ended up getting it. I really want to get Miecraft for the PC but I already have it for 2 different consoles and even on my phone and tablet.

So it's like, I don't know if I really want to throw down even more money for virtually the same experience. If anything, maybe the game would run better - though it runs pretty solid on the consoles as is.

so far the coolest thing about Computer minecraft is probably the larger world and already bigger variety of creatures and such.  there are alot of visual styles and options you can mess aroudn wiht, but things like Themes, SKins, and over all craftign are simpler in the console versions.  IF your cool with a limited world and want an easier game in general id say stick with console.
If ya wanan figure out mods and play an expanded version thats alot easier to get lost like a dingus in.  -twitch- then Comp is a great idea.   If terraria is any indication [comparing pc to console releases] then the variety of things you can make is probably much bigger on MC.

As for running better, i didn't see much difference honestly.
[speaking as someone who has MC on PS3 and Ps vita as well.]

Computer minecraft is really fun since you can add a number of mods to it and the map is at least 5 million by 5 million blocks.

The only problems I have with it are that some mods don't always work well with others and that you can't really use a controller. I am not a huge keyboard and mouse game player. I did hook up my xbox 360 controller to my computer and that sort of worked, but not well and I just went back to xbox minecraft.

Personally I just like watching lets plays of minecraft that youtubers do so I don't have to bother trying to get everything to work correctly.
