This may be another one of my ever unpopular threads, but I think that most of the systems stink. The only guys that I have consistently liked time and again is nintendo. They have never disappointed me yet to bring out tons of great games that are not all sports, racing and gory, or wicked. As I look at most of the other systems nowadays--such as the playstations and XBox I really do not see many good games on there that are not the typical football or shoot-em-ups. Only nintendo seems to have the power of the greatest franchises around. Seriously, they have Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario, Kirby, Pokemon,Super Smash Bros, and Megaman. They even have games that the other systems boast like Pac Man and Sonic.  What does Xbox boast? COD, Madden, Far Cry...oh wait, there is Minecraft. Play Station? I liked the first two, but I cannot say the same for any of the others! So why does it seem that only nintendo has the best franchises while the others scrounge up on the violence, sports--and oftentimes games off movies (that nintendo has anyway)?

Nintendo keep a strangle hold on all titles.
Typically if you want to develop for their console, they wont allow you to develop it for other consoles. Essentially, they own the rights to all the games. If it wasnt for this fact thwey would have long since perished.
As a gamer I am actively against that practice. Its the consumers who suffer, because they are expected to buy each console for the exclusives, rather than the merits of the system.
I have no doubt many of their titles could be far betetr if published on other (more capable systems).
To me they are a reto company, in regards to none of their titles being particularly fresh or high end. I have none of the current gen consoles, because I have a far better pc. Im not buying a console simply for exclusives, especially when all 3 main ones are massive *expletive's*.

Nintendo are horrific for not only the refusal for multi platforming, but for coming down ridiculously hard on anyone who sues their content, even lets players. They have a great deal of money yet fight for pennies.
Microsoft are much the same, but instead of chasing copyright claims, they ram you with subscription costs and dlc's. They are the ryan air of consoles, forever trying to deliver hidden charges. Their customer support sucks too.
Sony I used to like, but since they charged people in the UK extra for the ps4, purely because they could, I decided not to buy any of their consoles again. Their introduction of a subscription fee also disappointment me. I dont get any on the pc, so they can keep their consoles.

Neither 3 consoles have delivered any exclusives that I particularly care for either.
Xbox had dead rising 3, which I got on pc and was meh (PC gets most xbox exclusives), PS4 has the last of us remastered (would have been better on pc, but I already played on ps3), and infamous, but i never found that to be that great.
Then Nintendo has more of the same, tired old titles.

I never understood when people fought for a particular console. Everything they, and their competitors do, screw you, the consumer over.
And personally I'm not going to let them do that.

Nintendo has their tired first party games, you are right, but what else does Nintendo have? I can probably count the 3rd party releases for the WiiU on one hand and they are always the poorest version of the game. I think this generation is more or less a crap shoot (even worse than last gen). Nintendo has stupid gimmicks (that are not innovative, just catch peoples eye) and everyone else has fps and movies they call games. 

GenesisJunkie : Um...pretty sure that there are more than ten third party games that nintendo uses. Every sonic game actually comes from sega. Megaman from Capcom, and PacMan from Namco Bandai. They also have done a lot of the Transformers games. But I do see your point. True, I think that it is high time we actually get an awesome game that has more than a name and some snappy graphics and music. I think the makers have been going more for eye-catching and less for awesome. I will tell you this, the Pac Man and the ghostly adventures game is a whimp when you compare it the the Pac Man World trilogy! Each game had its own style and atmosphere. The games were tough, had amazing puzzles and some good bosses. The only thing the new one really boasts is better graphics and new power ups. (oh yeah, the new game is also shorter!) So other versions of the same game are better than on the wii? Huh...maybe I will have to look into that, if I could ever find enough on a system to interest me.

I do see that you don't really like the other consoles, but Nintendo really doesn't expand its horizon very much. They have their trademark games and expand those, but it seems to be at a lack of new games. Games don't need to be violent to be fun. (Metroid, Star Wars Republic Commando etc.) I find that Nintendo has great games, but too few. Mario Kart is fun, Zelda is fun, Mario's fun, Super Smash Bros is also there, but what other games do they have? 

My biggest issue with them is, they don't make the consoles great. The Wii only had a game aspect, whereas the PS3 and Xbox 360 included DVD players. (The Wii only works for games. I own one.) While the main purpose of a console is gaming, the other stuff makes it better. Also the Graphics haven't been up to date. The Wii had really bad graphics, the others didn't... I love the Nintendo games I play, but it really stinks that Nintendo restricts itself to the few games it makes... (My opinion.)

FaithFighter : I am glad you see what I am saying and don't just get mad because you are a Nintendo fan. Sega said they are pretty much done with Nintendo and almost every game they put out for wii, ds, ect was on other consoles too and Capcom is just about to be gone or bought out. I am just going to say away from this generation of gaming, it has nothing for me and I have nothing for it.

Really? Nintendo is the only inovater? To be honest, all the games you listed are the franchises that lack in inovation, other than say Metroid, Pokemon, and maybe Kirby. Mario keeps doing the same thing. Galaxy was just Super Mario 64 with messed up gravity system, and the New Super Mario Bros. games are just jumping around. I don't like Donkey Kong in the first place, and it hasn't brought very much new to the table recently. Super Smash Bros. 4 is the same fighting game as Brawl, with more characters and stages. Megaman, while I do LOVE the series, is just Megaman, again, again, and again. But, while I do admit CoD is the same thing again and again, just do weapons. And even the ones that I think ARE being inovative are becoming stale. Metroid hasn't released many games recently, so I can't really harp on that too much. Pokemon is kind of the same thing again and again, with new Pokemon and a few new mechanics. And Kirby is like Megaman, just the same thing with new abilities. Madden seems to be doing a lot of new things recently. Far Cry just released a new game that looks pretty dang cool. And by the way, Minecraft didn't originate on the Xbox. It originated on the PC. So, I really don't see your complaint, because I think Nintendo is doing the same thing again and again while the other company's seem to be doing new things.

Thanks for all the opinions. Okay, so I edited my post so as not to say that nintendo is the most creative. But as far as gaming goes, I still feel that it has the most to offer. Even though the graphics and capabilities may not always be as good as the others, I am pleased with it the most because I feel that they have the most variety of games from what I have seen. If you can show me that I am wrong and that other systems have as many games that do not involve gore, vileness, and sports, I would be more than happy to admit my error. It's not that I'm a fan of one thing only. I had a play station 2, and absolutely loved it! You could use it for Ps1 and 2, and there were plenty of good gaming specimens for me to find. I'm just having a lot harder time finding that anywhere anymore...except nintendo. I will say this, I think that you all are right about doing the same old thing over and over. Mario Bros is one of the biggest re-creations ever. (Super Mario Galaxy rocked, by the way! Though they screwed it up for me by throwing in the Kameks.) I don't really care about dvd's and all that. I am a gamer. That is all I expect out of a console. But maybe that is just my opinion.

FaithFighter : Yeah, I prefer Nintendo, too, for the same reasons you do. (By the way, I loved Galaxy too!) But there's a big difference between the BEST and the most CREATIVE. Other than that, your post is right on.

FaithFighter : I totally agree with you Nintendo is the only company that seems to make truly great games Microsoft and Playstation seem to be all about shooters and sports games while Nintendo is about high quality games. Playstation is good but Nintendo is awesome!

Yo sup Faith. Ok so this is a opinion thread cuz saying Nintendo is the only good game system out there is full of crap. Every game system has their exclusive titles and the exclusive fan base. Everyone on here could come in and say this system is better than all the rest. Doesn't mean everyone is going to agree because each person goes with a system based on what games they like by that system. So I take no offense to your post because in short I know it is your opinion. Don't get me wrong I know Nintendo has some good titles but to say they are the best ... I disagree. 
I myself prefer the Playstation and they have some good exclusive games and also good remakes of older games. You have games like :
The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Disgaea series, Dragon's Crown, Gran Turismo, God of War, Uncharted series, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Tales of Xillia, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Infamous series, White knight Chronicles, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto, Persona series, .Hack series, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, and many more I could name. That doesn't even include all the great remakes they have made of older games. 
So yeah I have to disagree. I'll take playstation over any current game system just because it is better in my opinion. For that matter the PlaySation 2's 12-year run from 2000 to 2012, and its 155 million units sold in that time span, leave the competing consoles from the same generation in the dust. Even the PlayStation 3's sales total of 80 million seems puny by comparison. After the PlayStation 3's release in 2007, the PlayStation 2 was outselling its next-gen counterpart by a 4 to 1 margin. Even two years later in 2009, when Sony cut the PlayStation 2 price down to $99, the system managed to outsell the PlayStation 3 for several months.
PlayStation 2's reigns atop the best-selling video game console list . The only system close to it would be the DS and it will probably pass the PS2 because of the PS2 no longer being in production.
As far as the newer systems go the Wii U and DS are the best sellers. 
 

I think it's completely unfair and biased to judge gaming consoles by the games that happen to be selling well. If you don't want to play a shooter game, then don't buy a shooter game. Buy one of the thousands of games offered by these consoles that isn't a shooter game or sports game. The only reason you're seeing this trend is because you decided it was a trend before you started looking.

I personally like Nintendo and Sony more than any other video game company. (Sorry Microsoft fans, Nothing specifically wrong with the company that I'd like to share.)

While I do love Nintendo, the way you wrote this article is extremely one sided. Both the Xbox and PS4 have huge amounts of high profile, fantastic games, much more than COD and Minecraft. Also, there are overall many more high profile games that are pumped out at a faster rate for these systems than Nintendo. I recommend that you dig a little deeper with your argument, as there are simply too many critically acclaimed and well-selling games for these systems to even compare to Nintendo. I'm not trying to put Nintendo down, it's simply the truth.
