Go look at http://www.mininova.org.... it's practically empty now. Some court ruling is forcing the site to scale back what they offer. Instead of providing programs/movies/games etc etc it sounds like it will be a place for people to privately distribute their free content. Really unfortunate because mininova was one of the few large torrent sites left. Piratebay is still around and demonoid looks like it's coming back... but it's yet another site that is being taken down by industries that refuse to change with the times.

Not a big blow to me, I just usually went to TehParadox.

pretty much.... there are plenty of other places to go still... but mininova was nice because you didn't have to register or keep a good ratio to download things.

Not a huge loss for me either, Im usually on Pirate Bay. Shame to see such a large torrent site fall though.

Not a huge hit, but takes away options, I use Azureus to get torrents, if I can't find the file or there are no seeders then I use Jdownloader. You download directly from sites. I use rlslog.net and find lings to downloads. Good site.

Pirate Bay is know to be a place that gives virus

yeah, pirate bay is bad for that.... mininova was 99% good. Always depends on what you're looking for....

I'm telling you, you should look into a JDownloader, you don't need any seeders, you just need sharing links.

Is it like some sort of torrent thing that doesn't use torrents?

I haven't figured it out yet.... I did grab it and set it up and had it do its updates and stuff but I haven't tried to download anything yet. I don't know what I would download. I know where I get most of the stuff I usually get so I have to wait for one of those things to show up to see how well this new program works.

Maybe I'll grab x-factor from there. Or see if I can. Once I figure it out Joe I'll let you know what it's all about.

From what cookie said though... it sounds like torrents without the seeders... not sure what that means though cause I find that many of the torrents I grab frequently go at 1 mb/sec download for me... so this has got to be pretty good for me to be impressed.

yeah... that's only for well seeded torrents though. Mine maxes at around 4-5 mb/sec. My upload is way slower though. It maxes around 60kb/sec.

I have the average cable internet here. It can go a lot faster. The fastest that my ISP proves is 100mb/sec downloads and 5mb/sec upload. I think that might be a business account... but still, it'd be bloody fast internet.

And this jdownloader thing still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think cookie needs to come tell us how it works cause at this point I'm not thinking it's better

The way you use it is...

I suggest going to

rlslog.net

look up something you want to get and then when you find it, you open the comments then you find someone that has put a lot of links, it can be as little as 8 links to as much as 100+, you just highlight them all then copy them and JDownloader will automatically grab it and you go into Jdownloader and it will see if the links are online, if not find more links and copy those and see if they are online. If they are click on the file and press the play button and it will start the download.

The people that crack the games, I trust Reloaded and Skidrow for sure. Definately use the links from rapidfire and megaupload when you can.

You can open up your maximum bites on the bottom right of the window. It won't go to a ridiculous amount but it shoots up to 2.5 to 3 mbs sometimes.

Once you download it you'll want to have winrar and highlight all the files that can be extracted from what you've downloaded and right click them and "Extract Here.." and it will take all the files and put them together.

It will most likely put the .iso file together and you'll then need the free version of Daemon Tools Light to use the .iso which mounts an image on your computer to make your computer think you have the CD for that game. Then you can use it and download it and play the game.

Anyways, the JDownloader thing looks interesting, but it's too much hassle I think and isn't as safe as using torrents unless you find a site that really checks the MU / RS etc links (as not alot do make sure the links are safe).

It's not a hassle at all if you know how to use it. I'm not saying it's better than a torrent downloader, I'm just saying if there is something you can't find good seeding to on a torrent you want, you should use JDownloader, it just takes the links and downloads the file parts to one folder where you extract them into one file. It doesn't need seeders since it is downloaded from places like rapidshare, megaupload and such.
