Hello everyone, how are you doing today? It's your host Laian coming at you and welcome to another walkthrough. Ok, so October didn't start well for me but lot of stuff happens on Vizzed. Such as... the PC section in the Video Game Room, yeah! Oh my, my, you can't imagine how that update made my day. I have lot of games to show you, games that you probably haven't heard of. So let's celebrate that new update with a PC game, why don't we? Let's dive into the horror for this month of October and let's go back in 1995. This game I chose is still considered nowadays as one of the best horror games ever created. A remake has been released for the Sega Saturn. Sadly, they forgot that all the people living on planet earth don't speak Japanese, oh well. That's why I'm going to play the PC version. Because it's the roots and I will understand the dialogues so I won't get stuck at a puzzle. But enough ramble, let's just jump into it, folks. Let's unlock the door to...




CHAPTER 1

Since the game is divided into seven chapters, let's use these chapters to make that walkthrough. After the cutscene, note that door behind you. Open it, move the carpet and try to open the hatch. It won't budge. Go back to the kitchen, open the drawer to the right to get the matches then leave the kitchen. In the next room, pick up the poker next to the fireplace then go back to the kitchen and open the hatch with the poker this time (don't forget to turn the light on, otherwise you won't be able to interact with the hatch). It works! However, it's too dark to see anything so you need a source of light. Go back to dining room then go to the next room. Collect the newspaper on the floor next to the fireplace and try to open both of the doors. Weird, they are locked. Well then, go upstairs. Check the room to the right to find a deck of tarot cards, then open the drawer next to the bed and read the letter. Now, go in the room to the left. Note the ring in the box and the cigarettes in the drawer then interact with the bed to activate a FMV. Now, leave the room, carry on, go to the left to talk to Don, leave the room and go upstairs. The door to your right is locked and the key is stuck in the keyhole... at the other side. Great. For this puzzle, you need another item so you'll have to come back here later. Go in the room to the left, check the teddy bear then the cloud above the baby's bed and leave the room. Now go in the next room to the left, check behind the sofa, the pot and the two paintings. The unfinished painting is really important in this game, trust me. It looks abstract for now but don't worry, you'll figure out its use soon. Now, go in the room to the right, check the drawer to find a note, then check the computer on the desk and go talk to Don once again. He's in the same place. You'll notice that he will act strangely if you talk to him after the cutscene. No «please» like the first time, hmm he must be dedicated to this project. Way too dedicated or something's wrong in this mansion. Anyway, time to go outside. Go downstairs, open the door, go south and use the car to go to the nearest town.


Go to the left. A dog is guarding the house so you can't knock on the door. However, you can check the mailbox and find a letter with a name on it: «Malcolm». He must be the owner of the house. Also, note the easter egg at the top left and corner. R. Williams or Roberta Williams, which is the name of the person who made that game. So, go right and enter the building named «Robert Thompkins realty» to start a cutscene. After that nice discussion, talk one more time to the guy and check the drawer. Hey, there's a large key. And there was no more keys... either he lied to you or that key just appeared from nowhere. Anyway, leave this building and return to the mansion. Now, what does that key open? It opens the library at the end of the small corridor located to the main hall. Use the key to open the door, check the table to read an article about a magic show named, then the fireplace. Oops, a brick of the wall is gone. Wait, there must be something interesting in this hole. Check the hole to activate a short movie. Indeed, there's something over there but you can't do anything with that at the moment. Take the statue on the desk, open the drawer and read the letter (1). Examine the statue you found with the eye located to the bottom right hand corner in order to find a button. That statue is in fact a letter opener. Use it to open a way in the fireplace and go in. Check the book to trigger another movie. Finally, check that mysterious box to trigger another FMV and finish that chapter.



CHAPTER 2

Wow, calm down Don! You're really upset today. And that's really strange because he wasn't so mean towards Adriene yesterday. Could it be that ghostly entity which has been freed from its eternal prison, also known as the box at the chapel? No, he had a terrible night, that's it. We all have that day, it's perfectly normal. Let's head to the store and get what Don just requested. You'll noticed that the door to Don's future photography lab is closed. You can interact with it in order to trigger a cutscene but you may know what will happen. Exactly, Don will tell you to move your butt and go get that drain cleaner. Fine! Be that way! Go downstairs to hear... a fanfare? Excuse me? What the heck is going on here? Do we celebrate something? Go back up, don't go in the room in front of you, go up then in the baby's room to watch another cutscene. Go back downstairs now, go in the trophy room and stop that damn music. Ah, much better. Well, time to head to the general store. Talk to the storekeeper to get the drain cleaner and learn more about Carno's mansion. It's haunted by his ghost apparently and a certain Malcolm used to live with him. Interesting, let's buy the product with the note. Let's go have a nice discussion with that Malcolm then. The house is to your left when you are next to the car. Ah, damn dog, he's still outside. Well, we'll talk to him later, I guess. Go back to the mansion and note that the barn is now opened. If you tried to open it earlier in the game, it was locked from the other side by a wooden plank. How is that possible? Anyway, go in. Go to the left and check the stuff. Don comes and, as always, he is still upset. Before leaving the barn, check the open paddock to trigger a cutscene. Go back to the house, then upstairs and give the drain cleaner to Don to watch a cutscene and end that short chapter.



CHAPTER 3

Yep, it's a nice day for a lunch outside, Adriene. Too bad your husband is too obsessed by his project. Anyway, go check that tree you saw during the movie. Oh, it's just a naive man and he wants you to follow him. Well then, let's do this. Go to the barn, climb up the ladder and help that poor person stuck. First, take the fork then use it to grab the winch. Finally, use the winch to free the woman. Now, examine the hole to find something stuck in the wooden planks. Unfortunately, it's really stuck that you can't do anything with that for now. Go down to watch another cutscene, then talk to them, give the tarot cards to the woman and leave the barn. Go back to the house, then to the second floor and check the computer in the room. What are these writings? Anyway, you can go back to the art room and notice that the unfinished painting slightly changed. Ok, this is getting really weird. Let's go to town and talk to the person who sold the house. He will be pleased to know what we heard from the townpeople. And obviously, it's like he cares about that. Well then, let's go to the antiques store. Go check the display to see a crucifix. It's made of titanium and it's rare according to the storekeeper. She can sell it to you for 2200$. Yeah, that's a lot of money but it's rare. Talk to the lady. It's a fan of Adriene's books. Sweet. Let's ask her some questions. Talk to her until you can't learn any more information about Carno and the mansion. Leave the shop and go to Malcolm's house. Shoot, the dog is still here. Well, go back to the antiques shop. Lou found something interesting that you can check anytime you want. It's a scrapbook with lot of articles about Carno and his shows. Read it to find out that he performed a magic show for a charity. Good cause but the show is kinda creepy, especially the electric chair (brrrrrrr). Turn the pages to learn more info about Carno's life. Go to the general store, find the barrel of free soup bones and pick up a bone. Give it to Malcolm's dog and go knock on the door. Ah, it's... Malcolm? No I'm kidding, it's the nurse. And as you can see, she's really nice. You won't be able to talk to Malcolm if you don't have a good reason to bother him. Head back to the mansion for now.

Go back to the library in the house and check the bookshelf. So the rumors about black art were true by the look of the book names. You can also check the book and the box in the chapel if you want but they will become important later in the game. This is exactly where I did spin around like a record for an hour. Remember the hatch? Go back there, open it and use the matches not on the opening but on Adriene. Yes, you heard me. You must use the matches on yourself to carry on. It was really obvious, I'll say. I can tell I did wonder if I had forgotten to take a candle or an oil lamp hidden somewhere and I had to move my cursor slowly everywhere on each screen. No, it's what you must do to make some progress. Once you are in the cellar, take the hammer on the floor, then examine the huge wooden tank. Weird, there's nothing but we can still hear someone crying. Where does this come from then? Find a door somewhere, go there, check the handcuffs and leave the cellar. Now, go back to the barn and use the hammer to remove the item stuck in the wooden planks. It's a nail. Now, go back to the second floor and use the newspaper and the nail to get the stairwell key stuck at the other side of the locked door. Be careful: use the newspaper then the nail otherwise you will screw this puzzle up and have to restart from the last save you made. Use it to unlock the door, go upstairs and open the door. Take the book. Now, you have a reason to bother Malcolm. Check the window to see a suspicious building outside. Go back to his house and show the book to the nurse. After the short discussion with Malcolm, head back to the mansion to trigger a FMV and end the chapter.



CHAPTER 4

And this is where the descent into madness really starts. After that FMV, you are in the bedroom. Go downstairs to see Cyrus' mom, Harriet. She's ready to work. Talk to her twice and go find her son. He knows about that strange building outside. But for starters, go to the kitchen to watch a cutscene. Then, go outside to find Cyrus playing with the cat. Talk to him and follow him to the river. He will make a bridge with the tree. Cross the «bridge» and grab the lens piece on the ground in the next screen (2). Go in the greenhouse, pick up the tool on the floor to trigger a FMV. You want more? Go check the vase to the right in the greenhouse. Now, go back to the telescope and use the lens piece. Now, use it to notice another window at the tower room. Go back to the mansion, talk to the person who's installing the phone line and go back to the tower room to check that other window. On your way to the tower room, Don, still upset, will ask you to get rid of Harriet. Well, listen up Don: I have some bloody cats to see so do your stuff and I do mine, ok? Great. Once you're in the tower room, check the striped wall then use the hammer to find a secret passageway. Go through the new passageway. Welcome to the attic, folks. Open the chest to find an antic broach, a diary to read and a pendant. Now, check the portraits, the mirror and the torture device to the left. Leave the attic, go downstairs to trigger a cutscene and end this chapter.



CHAPTER 5

Bloody tears, yeah. I think that means she can't bear that madness any longer. Well, that's my own interpretation of that scene, even though it's just something coming from Adriene's imagination. After what she saw and learned about Zoltan and how her husband reacts nowadays, she fears that he becomes as mad as Zoltan and try to kill everyone, including her. That must stop. But how? First of all, check the computer. There's another of those strange messages. If you look closely, you can see «get out» and «do not trust» among these lines of numbers and letters. You can go to the art room as always and check the unfinished painting. Yes, it looks like the face of the reaper, also known as Death. Could it be connected to the interpretation Harriet told you last time? Remember there's a hope. By the way, go in the room where that cursed bed is and check the box of cigarettes in the drawer. One is missing. Hmmm weird. Anyway, go downstairs to see Cyrus and go to the barn. Time for a seance. The image of Zoltan appears during this seance and asks you to find the dragon. A dragon? You mean that impressive treasure keeper that spits fire? I don't think the mansion could hide such a giant thing... unless... Go to the art room and check the device that was behind the sofa earlier (yes, now it's on this bowl). That's probably what Zoltan talked about. That device has a dragon drawn on it. Check the image shown on the wall to find a secret passageway. Well, it's «Amnesia: a machine for pigs» apparently. That mansion hides ton of secrets. Use the elevator then check the used cigarette on the ground (we found the missing cigarette, yeah!) and use the other elevator. Ignore the lever on the wall, it leads back to the room in which you found the deck of tarot cards earlier. After the elevator, go forth, since the stairs to your right are destroyed and the way to your left leads back to the chapel. You'll reach a new room of the mansion: the theatre. And surprisingly, you'll be locked inside. Go in the backstage and check the wardrobe to find a photograph of Carno and Malcolm. Check the torture device on the stage to trigger a movie. Ok, now you can leave the theatre by the door and see Don sleeping on the sofa with the bottle of absinthe on the ground. That will end this chapter.



CHAPTER 6

And the cat died. Or he is missing. Well, I go with the first option. Go to your room to notice that the PC is «kaput». Then, you can check the painting in the art room if you want. Now, go outside, talk to Harriet and Cyrus in the barn if you want and go to town. We have an antic broach that a certain person might find interesting and a photograph. First things first, go see Lou and give the broach to her. You'll get the crucifix. Now, go to Malcolm's house, show the photograph to the nurse and trigger a movie. Go back to the mansion. The phone line is set. Although, that nice guy is going to die soon while he's about to leave the mansion. By the hands of... Don, maniacally laughing. This will end the chapter.



CHAPTER 7

This is the last chapter of the game and probably the most intense chapter of the game. Don is out of control and acts like Carno. In this chapter, you can die. I'm not kidding. Before going in the photography lab, save your progress and prepare yourself for a great finale. Now, time to start the chase. You can't save during the chase, that is why I told you to save your progress before. However, if you fail, you will restart from the last checkpoint, which is handy. But there's a specific way to complete that part and you need to do the steps in the order I'll tell you otherwise you'll be screwed at some points. Oh and that chase kinda reminds me of the one from Mad Father, except you are chased by your husband and he doesn't have a chainsaw. First, click on the drain cleaner to your right to hurt Don. Don't take the book, leave it on the table, exit the room, go upstairs, then in the art room and go all the way down to the theatre. After the cutscene, go in the backstage and check Don's vest to find the snowman ornament. Then hide in the wardrobe, use the poker on Don to hurt him once more and leave the theatre by the open trapdoor. Time to go back and grab that book in the photography lab. Use the hammer on Don to stun him and go in the nursery room (or the baby's room) to take the glass shard on the floor (3). You'll be caught by Don who wants to kill you with the torture device in the theatre. Use the snowman ornament on Don then pull down the lever to impale him. The demon will be released. Leave the theatre by the open trapdoor, grab the pipe above your head, then close the door with the wooden plank and carry on. Check the ritual table and use the book on it. Then, examine the corpse behind the table to find a talisman. Use it on the book, Now, use the glass shard on Adriene then the crucifix on the book. The ritual is now complete and the demon will be trapped inside the book, like it was planned. Watch the final cutscene. Congratulations, you just completed Phantasmagoria.


So yeah, that's all folks. I will do that for now on. Every October, I'll deliver the walkthrough of a horror game. I know there's a sequel to this game. After what she saw and learned about Zoltan and how her husband reacts nowadays, she fears that he becomes as mad as Zoltan and try to kill everyone, including her. That must stop. But how? First of all, check the computer. There's another of those strange messages. If you look closely, you can see «get out» and «do not trust» among these lines of numbers and letters. You can go to the art room as always and check the unfinished painting. Yes, it looks like the face of the reaper, also known as Death. Could it be connected to the interpretation Harriet told you last time? Remember there's a hope. By the way, go in the room where that cursed bed is and check the box of cigarettes in the drawer. One is missing. Hmmm weird. Anyway, go downstairs to see Cyrus and go to the barn. Time for a seance. The image of Zoltan appears during this seance and asks you to find the dragon. A dragon? You mean that impressive treasure keeper that spits fire? I don't think the mansion could hide such a giant thing... unless... Go to the art room and check the device that was behind the sofa earlier (yes, now it's on this bowl). That's probably what Zoltan talked about. That device has a dragon drawn on it. Check the image shown on the wall to find a secret passageway. Well, it's «Amnesia: a machine for pigs» apparently. That mansion hides ton of secrets. Use the elevator then check the used cigarette on the ground (we found the missing cigarette, yeah!) and use the other elevator. Ignore the lever on the wall, it leads back to the room in which you found the deck of tarot cards earlier. After the elevator, go forth, since the stairs to your right are destroyed and the way to your left leads back to the chapel. You'll reach a new room of the mansion: the theatre. And surprisingly, you'll be locked inside. Go in the backstage and check the wardrobe to find a photograph of Carno and Malcolm. Check the torture device on the stage to trigger a movie. Ok, now you can leave the theatre by the door and see Don sleeping on the sofa with the bottle of absinthe on the ground. That will end this chapter.



CHAPTER 6

And the cat died. Or he is missing. Well, I go with the first option. Go to your room to notice that the PC is «kaput». Then, you can check the painting in the art room if you want. Now, go outside, talk to Harriet and Cyrus in the barn if you want and go to town. We have an antic broach that a certain person might find interesting and a photograph. First things first, go see Lou and give the broach to her. You'll get the crucifix. Now, go to Malcolm's house, show the photograph to the nurse and trigger a movie. Go back to the mansion. The phone line is set. Although, that nice guy is going to die soon while he's about to leave the mansion. By the hands of... Don, maniacally laughing. This will end the chapter.



CHAPTER 7

This is the last chapter of the game and probably the most intense chapter of the game. Don is out of control and acts like Carno. In this chapter, you can die. I'm not kidding. Before going in the photography lab, save your progress and prepare yourself for a great finale. Now, time to start the chase. You can't save during the chase, that is why I told you to save your progress before. However, if you fail, you will restart from the last checkpoint, which is handy. But there's a specific way to complete that part and you need to do the steps in the order I'll tell you otherwise you'll be screwed at some points. Oh and that chase kinda reminds me of the one from Mad Father, except you are chased by your husband and he doesn't have a chainsaw. First, click on the drain cleaner to your right to hurt Don. Don't take the book, leave it on the table, exit the room, go upstairs, then in the art room and go all the way down to the theatre. After the cutscene, go in the backstage and check Don's vest to find the snowman ornament. Then hide in the wardrobe, use the poker on Don to hurt him once more and leave the theatre by the open trapdoor. Time to go back and grab that book in the photography lab. Use the hammer on Don to stun him and go in the nursery room (or the baby's room) to take the glass shard on the floor (3). You'll be caught by Don who wants to kill you with the torture device in the theatre. Use the snowman ornament on Don then pull down the lever to impale him. The demon will be released. Leave the theatre by the open trapdoor, grab the pipe above your head, then close the door with the wooden plank and carry on. Check the ritual table and use the book on it. Then, examine the corpse behind the table to find a talisman. Use it on the book, Now, use the glass shard on Adriene then the crucifix on the book. The ritual is now complete and the demon will be trapped inside the book, like it was planned. Watch the final cutscene. Congratulations, you just completed Phantasmagoria.


So yeah, that's all folks. I will do that for now on. Every October, I'll deliver the walkthrough of a horror game. I know there's a sequel to this game. It's called «Phantasmagoria 2: A puzzle of flesh». But that, my friends, will be taken care of next October... eventually. I see you next time for another walkthrough. Take care, folks

That was most certainly my favorite part of the game. I really liked the performance of David Homb (Donald "Don" Gordon in the game), especially for that part.
