There have been users who have been wanting an under water city on the Vizzed server for a while now (IgoreBird122 was the latest to discuss this with me) and I've had plans on expanding Megod City for a while now so I thought a great idea would be to merge the ideas. Construction of the cities would begin possibly a week from now but we'll see.

My original idea was to expand Megod City by increasing its size by about 5 times and sectioning the city into 5 sectors (each sector being about the size of the current Megod City). My expanded idea is to give each of those sectors a different them; here are those themes:

Water City
This entire sector would be underwater and contained within a massive aquarium. Each lot would contain a 10x10 glass cube which would be filled with air and all of the glass cubes would be connected so that users could travel back and forth between them for the sake of claiming them. The aquarium would be the size of the current Megod (like the other sectors) but I'm unsure how tall it'd be, maybe something like 128 blocks tall (the current city islands I think are 64 blocks tall). The cubes would be about 64 tall so they'd be in the middle of the aquarium (vertically speaking).

Snow City
This entire city would be snow based and would have a snowy biome. There really wouldn't be anything too special about it besides it being snowy. It could be a great place for some Christmas themed events or contests.

Ground City
This entire city would be underground like an ant colony. The land structure would probably be 128 blocks high and all of the lots would be similar to Water City where they'd each be connected.

Cloud City
This city would be floating in the sky, probably as high as the clouds. The lots would all most likely be small pieces of land connected by paths.

What do you guys think of this idea? What ideas do you have to add to this? Which expansion would you like to see happen first?

I'm glad this would be going in Megod and not anything that is obstructing (read - forcing lag upon) Vizzed Ville's construction.

Plus, Megod City is such a mess as it is (I avoid it like the plague because there's just no direction) that at worst it will just make it a bigger mess.

I'm in support. I've seen water and sky cities done though, as well as many holiday based builds. I'd probably suggest the sky city be done, with wool or a similar material being used underneath the land in the sky, so it wouldn't be ugly. (Seeing a city in the sky would be unnerving.)

In the event of a sky city build, I'd like to recommend putting the sky city land on level with the cloud level in Minecraft, this is so building is restricted to a certain height (no one wants to see an ugly skyscraper floating in the sky) and keeps all the buildings more humble as opposed to ostentatious. This would also keep it at a level where it is less likely to attract too much attention to Megod City below.

I think it would be cool in the Sky City for all the plots being at varying heights, within about ten blocks apart, of course, to give them the floaty feel. Kind of like in Bioshock Infinite. A giant square in the sky would just look strange. And, about the water city, I think it would be cool to have a lava city in the Nether with the same design. Although, that may be hard to pull off.

I love the water, Ground, and sky ones, those all sound like awesome ideas. Can't wait to see some of these, and open up a litle something underground.

legacyme3 : I agree that really tall structures would be an eye sore in the Sky City. Megod City is hard to navigate because there's no official roads like what the Island Cities have but what I could do is make these sectors smaller so that they aren't as huge and as hard to navigate. I like the idea of wool underneath the floating land to give it a cloud look, I will definitely do that.

thelastrequim : It wouldn't be a giant square, it'd be a bunch of smaller squares. Doing different heights would make constructing it really hard to be honest. When users purchase a lot, they can be in charge of altering the height of their lot.

Davideo7 :

There's just one caveat if users can build on their lot, if we're going for a cloud city, and want to avoid a mess, you should have a wool exterior (and have it float up a bit above ground level as well, for a more rounded appearance, with it being more than just one big cloud in addition. Bridges can be made of glass, which are largely transparent, and at a distance, will hardly appear to the other observers.

Above the woolen exterior, I highly recommend implenting a layer of bedrock, to prevent players from digging through the bottom of the cloud, not only killing themselves, but ruining the overall look of the cityscape.

Additionally, if we go with the "separate cloud" idea, with a couple big clouds, several small ones, etc... then we can alter the height of the individual clouds a BIT. Not much, but enough to give some people better variance with the building they wish to build, as long as we keep all clouds high enough in the sky, so that no one can build a gaudy skyscraper.

Quick question though, do you mean the water city will have cubes with water and just like that, or that there s acube with a large amount of water above our head?
You give me a reason to not make purchasable plots to get mViz because theres a water city soon

How tall will the water be though?

Yes. Bedrock would only be on the level slightly above the bottom level of the cloud. This would again,be to prevent people from digging eye sores in the sky. I'm not saying bedrock would be on the lot level of the area, but it would be in the cloud to prevent people from digging through the bottom of the cloud. Just to prevent gaudy messes, again.

I really love the idea of this as well. All four sound great.

I'd love to see either the water or snow biome first. Those two in particular sound neat.

I've been thinking about this a little more and we could possibly make each sector only 1/4th the size of the current since the current is pretty big and legacyme3 has complained about how hard it is to navigate due to how big it is.

If we were to make them smaller, then we could maybe add a few more sectors which could include:
-Lava City
-Jungle City (tall jungle like trees similar to snow's island)
-Forest City (might be too similar to Jungle City)
-Mountain City (the entire town would be on the side of a pyramid shaped mountain)
-Desert City
-Boat City (entire town would take place on top of the water)

Any other ideas you guys may have.

legacyme3 : Summoning you to get your feedback on the sectors being 25% the size of the current Megod City.

Davideo7 :

I haven't seen "all" of Megod City at the time of this post, so I can't say much regarding how big it is.

A large part of why it's difficult to navigate Megod City is just the cluster of everything pushed together. Even in Vizzed Ville, where there are a ton of lots, they feel more spread out and less intimidating. Also the lack of signage (or easy to find signage) as well as a hard to find teleportation station.

But I do think making most of the sectors smaller isn't an inherently bad thing. If one sector is coming along well, there's no reason you can't expand later.

But making all the sectors as big as Megod City, or even Vizzed Ville will probably lead to a more bogged down server.

My personal recommendation is to do one of the sectors (likely the sky city, because it is on a different level, and would be out of the way of everyone else), see how that progresses and expand to the other ideas if/when public interest is boosted.

If the idea is to have a server that looks active, it is better to not have dozens of empty sectors, even if the sectors are smaller.

I enjoy all of those ideas, and I don't really mind the size change.

I mean I wouldn't want each too small, but 1/4th of Megod City is plenty.

As for ideas: What about a Beach City?
