-Should there be tighter restrictions on our second amendment rights to bare arms?
-Do you find gun control laws to lax'ed?

Me personally I believe strongly that there should be tighter restrictions on our second amendment rights to bare arms. I find it disturbing that schools are basically no longer safe from gun violence, I often wounder if today's the day someone decides to bring a gun and open fire  in a class room. I think it should be incredibly hard for anyone besides law enforcement to bare arms or even own a gun. I also think background checks to own a gun should also look into a persons medical history.

I find gun controls laws way to lax'ed in certain states ( ex:Chicago, Pennsylvania) . Anytime guns are so common and easy to obtain, children have easy access to them  that's when I think the law has to look at that and say "hmm maybe we should crack down on gun control and make it harder to obtain and own a gun".

Many of you will argue "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" well if you take that gun away that person might not have been killed in the first place.

Anyways what are your thoughts on gun control, to lax'ed or to many restrictions already?.

Neo Arcadia :
imamonster :

Gun laws are necessary because people are stupid. Equally, gun ownership is necessary because people are stupid. Most people think to mimic gun restrictions like those in the UK, but I instead like Switzerland's laws. Everyone is drafted into the military, everyone learns how to use guns, and then, very often, the automatic assault rifle is kept in the home. Who would break into a home in Switzerland with a military trained and military armed owner?

imamonster :

I also don't like people who simply "have opinions". Debate! It's not unfriendly. Convince me! I enjoy the conflict.

Why is your opinion, heavy gun restriction, better than mine, intentional gun proliferation? We can even refer to the Netherlands specifically, where I still think that it would be a beneficial law (except for the cultural opposition).

Txgangsta : Why does one need a gun in the first place? For protection?, that's the police's job. Individuals that aren't police or hunt for food or to make a living  don't need to have a gun on them, it only causes problems and endangers everyone's safety. As for the comment " Gun owner ship is necessary because people are stupid", why would you give a stupid person gun ownership? , wouldn't that mean the person owning the gun is stupid in the first place yet they are owning a gun?, And about the gun restrictions in the UK you rarely hear about shooting and gun violence in the streets or schools of the UK, I wounder why?(Sarcasm)  because of there tight gun control laws. Personally I believe if the gun control laws were as tight in the United States as they are  in the United Kingdom, the gun violence rate would go down it it would be safer. Once more I'm all for tighter gun restrictions and making it harder for individuals to own guns.

TheFadedWarrior : Thank you for I wasn't aware a thread for gun control already exists (to honest I really didn't feel like a(n) attempt to look for a thread similar to this one was necessary nor did I really care enough to look due to the fact I have better things to do) But thanks for letting us know I'll just transfer over my posts to that thread.

Neo Arcadia :

The police is made up of people, and the police are not perfect. I may be a cop come June, but I won't perfect the police system. I have no problem with a gun in the home, kept loaded, for the purpose of protection. And I don't think stupid people should have guns. I like restrictions that require education, ban guns from convicted criminals, and the like.

And you're right, the UK has less gun crime, even less gun crime per capita. But this isn't caused by gun restriction; it's caused by the people. America has gang issues, violence issues, and other culture problems that the UK doesn't have to deal with. Switzerland has slightly more gun crime that the UK and is one of the lowest in the world, but requires gun use by all males between 20-30 years old.

America has too many guns to start restricting. What America needs to do is punish gun crimes and unregistered gun ownership to the maximum allowable limit. Gun accidents are caused by people who are not safe with guns, either through ignorance or through carelessness. Those careless with guns should have their liberty to own one revoked, and education should be part of school.

As for gun violence, America culture loves violence. If guns were eliminated, knives would take their place. The culture needs to be changed so that violence is not accepted in the least bit.

Finally, even if America tried to restrict guns, Mexico is not. Guns would flood in from Mexico because that boarder is not the least bit secure. To effectively reduce smuggling, America would have to pay hundreds of billions just for boarder watch, not to mention rooting out any underground factories out of Tennessee or Idaho or elsewhere internally. It isn't worth it to even try, especially in the south.
