Playing Call of Duty just so that I could play games with my friends. I hate the series, so it was kind of grueling trying to endure playing any of those games for countless hours. Now, I only play games with my friends if I like the game that I am playing, and I feel a lot better for it.

I don't think I had many moments in video games where I regretted doing something. Don't get me wrong, I played RPGs from pokemon to final fantasy and platformers from mario to megaman......and fighting games.

Hmmm........Ahaaa! I remember now, one of my most regrettable moments was in NetHack...I was lv 8 monk in dungeon floor 8 (mind you my HP was at half), the monk's special ability "sense" detected an enemy form behind the door, so instead of trying to run away, I bashed in and the enemy was Bugbear..."A new enemy! it shouldn't be that bad.." I said to myself, and oh boy was I wrong, the moment I tried hitting him he grabbed me and I was confused as what I was supposed to do, I tried moving away but it seems I'm not strong enough to escape his grasp and he attempts to crush me doing some moderate damage every turn, so I tried hitting back thinking it will work but he didn't flinch much and continued crushing me...that went on for 4 turns until I died......

I was playing a Super Mario 64 hack, and I accidentally loaded a savestate instead of creating one, so I had to start over what I was doing. Also, I got myself cornered by ghosts many times in a few Pac-Man games.

DOH!

The moment I feel worst about is not being able to finish Section Z. For those of you who don't know what Section Z is, it's a REALLY hard Arcade game. Believe me, once you beat Section Z, you can beat anything. Anyway, I got all the way to the second last stage of the game, before I got a Game Over again. Luckily, it's one of those games that gives you 10 seconds to push a button (or throw in a coin, if you were to play it on an actual Arcade system) and it'll take you back to a checkpoint. But a friend walked in at that moment, and he said something to me which completely broke my concentration from the game. I didn't pay attention at the Game Over screen, and so it took all the way back at the beginning of the game. I just said 'the heck with it', and put my controller down, and never played Section Z since then.

That's definitely the video game moment I regret most. Darn it. xD

imamonster :

Mine would have to be one time when I was playing a game of fight night on my PS3, I was fighting one of the world champions in online mode and despite the fact that the person had the win/loss record of a spammer, I was beating that person pretty convincingly. I had scored a couple of knockdowns and think pretty much that I won every round, until my console went down with the infamous yellow light of death.

I have had to buy three different PS3 consoles for varying reasons, and those experiences have made me very leery of investing in a PS4 for fear that the new platform would have similar problems. I do regret not being able to finish that fight because it is always good to beat someone who doesn’t like to play by the rules, using nothing, but skill and not sinking down to their level. My record against spammers wasn’t great for the obvious reason that they generally did not want to compete. Hopefully with the new platform Sony can police those practices a little better. When games/fights were legitimate, I had a decent record, but I never was able to win one of those online belts in fight night. I was however, able to win several on MMA games though.

I have been an avid Sony gamer for twenty years going back to the original console.  Unfortunately, for all the good PS3 can do, it’s had it’s share of drawbacks.  My problems, which led to me buying new consoles were getting a disc read error on my original console. I got the yellow light of death on another, I ended up having to take my console to a repair place just to be able to get the game out and have access to the hard drive.  Once I bought a new console I transferred my data to the new console.  Everything was fine for about two years with the new one and then almost two years ago, a botched firmware update, which crashed thousands of hard drives caused my hard drive to crash.  Coincidentally, this happened the same week that Sony released the super-slim version of the console.

I am naturally conspiracy minded, I think given how the economy was at the time, that the botched firmware update was done on purpose to deliberately crash hard drives as a way for the company to introduce the new super-slim line for PS3 with supposed improvements in an attempt to boost holiday sales.  As a result I haven’t played my PS3 in a couple of years and have taken my time thinking about whether to invest in the super-slim, which supposedly doesn’t have those issues or invest in a PS4.  My only issue is PS4 is not backward compatible and even though they are going to launch a cloud based service called Playstation Now, which would supposedly allow access to all generations of playstation games without discs, I’m leery of it.

I have been a gamer all my life, although the technology is leaps and bounds better in regard to what is available today, better technology doesn’t always equal better reliability and durability of the console.  I still have all my consoles from when I was growing up, pre-playstation era packed away, all of them worked the last time I used them. Those consoles are well over 20 years old. Hopefully Sony got it’s act together with PS4.

As I have said on this forum before, for the amount of money these companies charge for the consoles nowadays, they have a responsibility to the consumer to ensure the consoles work properly and will last.   As far as MMA gaming, much like Fight Night round 4, most of the early MMA games, the first UFC undisputed and EA MMA were all analog based, which makes it extremely difficult to perfect.  I don’t know if the newer MMA games have a combination of button and analog control, but in regard to EA MMA before they retired online mode, in favor of the new EA UFC, my strategy was typically to counter takedowns and do as best as I could to beat them with striking.

One technique I liked using was to counter takedown attempts either by side stepping my opponent and counter with a takedown of my own where I could gain a dominant position where they couldn’t counter with submission attempts or  I would wear down the legs of my opponent with leg kicks. Much like a real fight, if you tactically work on something, eventually the accumulation will take an effect.  I found tactically mixing my attack instead of looking either for a quick one strike knockout or quick submissions catches most online players off guard  and can actually make your own submission attempts easier because their resistance won’t be as great.  I used to love it when I would beat a spammer either on the Fight Night games or an MMA game when, no matter what they tried, it didn’t work.  I would write them a message after the fights and would say Good game, Spammers justice. Most of them would respond with foul language and I would end up reporting them.  I hope that is another thing Sony is able to curtail now.

My most regrettable moment in VG history was when i was playing Twilight Princess and got all the way from Goron Mines to Arbiters Grounds in one sitting. I wanted to get some rest, so i decided to quit the game......without saving. I had the hardest rage ever. I didn't play the game for two weeks.

My most regrettable gaming moments are any where I act like a jerk.
Doing the evil endings for star wars Knights or bioshock always makes me feel like an a hole. Instantly regret my actions.

My biggest regret in gaming is never keeping my old "V.C.R. Tapes".
With all the footage I recorded on those things I could have easily edited shots and moments together to make some sweet "G.M.V." Music Videos to upload on "youtube" or what not.
But...
Every other year there's a new "sopa" bill or a new "copyright Witch hunt B.O.T." or something that gets in the way of good art. Consistently.
So,,,
In a way it's kind of a mixed blessing.
I'd rather spend a few extra hours of my off duty time getting to the next level. As Opposed To editing my journey of the last level to upload on Youtube for maybe five subscribers.
Like I said. Mixed Blessing.
Though I still think it would be a great idea for youtube "lets players" to stop with the commentary and Stop with documenting the whole 30 to 40 minutes of a level and just showcase 3 minutes of highlights with some great music. Maybe an extra 3 minutes for a "boss" But that's it.
We all have lives to live.
Why Do we have to suffer so much wasted time?
Just a Thought.
Good Luck To All.
Peace.

I dropped my 3DS. D:

Civ 4, waged war and angered Mali before I realized he was super advanced and had Marines.
I had Musketmen and Knights.

It was a bright and sunny day in fall, 2005. I just purchased my first game console: a used N64, which was a very big deal for me. We got a few staple games for it: Ocarina of Time, Smash64, a couple James Bond games, and then I saw it. It had one of my favorite superheroes on the cover, which was enough to peak my middle school aged interest.

I remember trying that game out after school one day, eager to see what exciting superhero thrill-rile awaited me. My expectations were very high after beating Ocarina of Time the day before, hyped to start another great adventure. What followed was a menacing chain of frustration, held down by a bland and empty over world, with nothing but the worst controls for me to control this iconic hero through an infuriating time trial with an impossible time limit. I told my dad that I was having trouble with the game and wanted to return it, but he told me to keep trying and not give up so quickly. Once he saw with his own eyes how I tried in vain to beat the level, how it mocked and tormented me, only then did he agree to exchange it for a different game. I must've owned it for only about an hour.

I was glad to relinquish the game from my naive hands, but not without a sense of disappointment that they threw away an opportunity from such an iconic character. I picked a racing game as my replacement and headed back home, hoping that my copy of Cruisin' USA would wash out the bitter taste of Superman64 from my mind.

My biggest regret in Video Games was Playing Dragon Warrior 3 for a week without saving and then having the power go out. I have never made the not saving error after that.
