Hey, everyone! This is TheFadedWarrior's brand new guide for Super Mario 3D Land. This guide will tell you all of the locations for the star coins in the first 8 worlds. I will make another star coin guide for worlds 5-8 and the special worlds soon.

Legal Stuffs: I do not own any Nintendo companies nor do I work for any (except my beta testing for Super Smash Bros. 4... Just kidding ). I am simply some little kid that decided to create a walkthrough for this game.

TIPS

If you're going for total 100% completion, you have to complete every single level with both Mario and Luigi as well as getting a golden flag on every level.
The best powerup you can have is Tanooki Mario/Kitsune Luigi. Why? Simply because you can slowfall. On the other hand, a few of these require you to be Fire Mario/Luigi.
Some of these coins are very frustrating to get and may require many, many spare lives. Go to the section a little past halfway in world 1-2 with all the koopas. Stand on top of the first item block and walk down off the edge onto the Koopa. Stop walking. You should be constantly bouncing off of the shell and be getting 1-ups rapidly.

Without further ado, the guide!

W-1

Level 1-1 - The first star coin is impossible to miss. Go to the second white bridge (it's broken) and go down. There should be a bouncy wire with the star coin on it. The next star coin is probably the one most people need help with. Just to the left of the halfway flag, there's a tree (it's immediately left to the danadelions). Climb to the top of the tree and jump onto the note blocks then onto the platform. Go down the pipe and there in that room should be the star coin. The next is just past the green scope near the end of the level. Go up to where the goombas are. See those note blocks? Jump up over them onto another bouncy wire. Jump on the wire and grab the star coin.

Level 1-2 - At the beginning go to the rotating platform with the second black piranha plant on it. Get rid of that piranha plant and walk to the right edge of the platform. When it spins around, you should go through the star coin. The next star coin is just past the section with all the Koopas. There should be 2 moving platforms immediately past the wrecking ball thing. Above one of the platforms is the star coin. Jump onto the platform and jump once more to get the star coin. The final star coin is really close to the second. When you get to the bridge, do you notice the raised chunk of ground just before it? Jump onto that and jump to the right (make sure you're close to the wall). You should land on a very thin strip of ground just left of the star coin.

Level 1-3 - When you get to the green scope, look through it. On the top right of the screen stand Toad on the mountains. Zoom in on him and he will throw a star coin. Go down to the note block and bounce up to grab the coin. Keep going until you get to the section with the moving clouds. Turn right and bounce off of the rainbow note block. Go through the cloud area and at the end should be your star coin. When you land back in the level you should immediately see the next star coin. Float down with the Tanooki suit onto the coin, but make sure your timing is correct so you land on the cloud!

Level 1-4 - Somewhere around the beginning of the level on a turn, there should be a geyser (if not then wait until you see it). Go on the geyser and it should push you up onto another rail with the star coin on it. Keep going until you drop off to the end of the track (there's a fire plant there). Go left from there (but not too fast! The rail drops off) and get the star coin. The final coin in this level is just before the end. There should be 2 geysers right next to each other. Go on the left geyser and keep going left. When you catch the left rail you should be able to get the star coin.

Level 1-Castle - In the middle of the first spinning cog is the star coin. Jump over the lava and don't hit the ball of lava to get the coin. The next coin is before the section with the thwomps. There should be a very long lava spinner. On one side of it is the star coin. Grab it and continue on. The next coin can be accessed either by jumping on top of the second thwomp or by wall jumping behind him.

Level 2-1 - At the very beginning, immediately look through the green scope. Pan it up and zoom in on Toad. He will throw a star coin. Go to the mound of land where the coin is now located and bounce up there and grab the coin. The next coin is inside of the green pipe located to the right of the first coin. The third coin is located on the side of the tower you have to climb. Go up the tower while looking for a cardboard goomba. Once you find the fake goomba, go over to it. Jump over to the star coin and back. Proceed to finish the level.

Level 2-2 - At the beginning the star coin is located high over the ground. Wall jump off of the wall to grab it. Now wasn't that easy? The next coin is very easy as well. Go past the midway point to the unlit torch. Turn left and jump against the half-wall. In there is a secret little cave with the coin and a 100 second timer. I think the final coin requires a Tanooki suit, but I'm not sure. Go to the very end of the level (seriously. Go through the pipe and to the room with the flagpole) and turn left. Destroy those blocks and crouch through there to get the coin.

Level 2-3 - The first one requires a Tanooki suit. Keep spinning at Mario's (the fake one's) right foot until you get to Luigi. Quickly jump onto Luigi's body before the feet fall again. Above the P-switch should be the first coin. The next coin is just before you get to Peach (again, the fake one). Under the golden ring that's below the goomba is the star coin. Fall down to the coin and use the propeller hat to get back up. The final coin is pretty much the same thing as the first. Go to Peach's left foot (though it's not visible) and keep spinning. Use the propeller hat and go through the gold ring and to get the coin.

Level 2-4 - This level actually has four star coins. Just kidding, it only has the regular three (fooled you... maybe). The first of the three is at the first long area with the red/blue tiles. Make sure that it's on red before you jump onto it. Jump, glide over the spiky bar, and land on the coin. Once you get past that area, go to the right of the next wooden platform. Jump and bounce off of the rainbow note block. Complete the cloud course and the star coin is at the end. When you land, go over to the winged item block. Jump on top of it and jump once more to grab to coin.

Level 2 - Airship (Halfway to the end of this guide)- The first coin is pretty easy. Keep playing the course until you get to the warp (!) block. Touch it and keep going. See that star coin just in front of you? Yeah, it's that easy. Once you get back to the main part of the level, keep playing until you get to the mole. Wall jump (or jump off of the mole) in the direction of the coin's shadow. If you aim good enough you should grab the coin. Immediately after that, at the location where the pipe is, do you notice the beam connecting the two platforms together? Underneath there is the star coin.

1/8 way through the game!

Level 3-1 - You will need Tanooki Mario for the first coin. Jump in the cannon at the start of the level and shoot through the gold hoop. When you land, bounce off of the note block and slowfall onto the moving platform for the star coin. The next coin is guided to you when you press the P-switch. Follow the musical notes and when you get to the end, smash the block on the bottom of the wall. Crawl through there for the next coin. The final coin requires a propeller hat (I forgot where you get it). Near the end of the level where you get to the section with the thwomp, jump on top of the thwomp. Use the propeller hat and fly up to the right of your screen. The coin should be there.

Level 3-2 - I suggest you get a fire flower before starting this level. Play through the level like normal until you see the grate with the star coin in it. See the three cheep-cheeps? It will make this easier if you get rid of them by means of fireball (fire in lava? how...?). Go as far right as possible. Go through the hole in the wall and go left until you appear behind the grate and grab the star coin. The next coin requires fireballs as well. Past the midway point there's a very long eel poking out of the wall. Shoot it with fireballs until it becomes as short as possible. Go next to its mouth (but not too close). Fall through the crack in the ground and go in the pipe. Grab the star coin and go back. When you get to the next eel, do the same. Shoot fireballs at it and swim up through the hole in the ceiling that the fish was blocking. Once you get to the surface, wall jump off of the right wall for the star coin.

Level 3-3 - The first coin requires a Tanooki suit. At the beginning of the level, jump on top of the first item blocks then on top of the blocks of ice. The camera should then turn around and you will see the Tanooki wheel. Spin it and go through the pipe when you get to the top. The next coin is just past the midway flag. Take the left donut path and wall jump up the icy walls until you land on the ground. The star coin is on top of 2 donut blocks. To get the final coin, look through the green scope and zoom in on Toad. Grab the coin and finish the level.

Level 3-4 - The first coin is at the top of the tall plain tree trunk. Get to the top of it by the bouncy wires. When you get to the purple blocks, get the second as high as you can and the first pretty high as well. Jump to the top of the tree, then use the blocks as stairs to get to the star coin. Keep playing until you get to the next purple block (which is sideways). Hit it once or twice, jump on top of it, then bounce onto and off of the rainbow note block. Finish the cloud course for the coin. At the end of the level with the wrecking ball thingys, pass the first ball and wait until a winged item block comes over to you. Jump on top of it and take a ride over to the star coin.

Level 3-5 - Just a couple seconds into the level you will see the coin. It's placed on top of  a stack of 2 blocks. The next coin is right before the midway flag. Jump off of the donut blocks onto the coin when the enemy flies underneath it (so you can bounce off of it onto the ground). The final coin in this level is so easy that it's actually a bit confusing. Keep playing the level until you see it. Wait until a platform floats under it then jump onto the platform. Too easy...

Level 3-Airship - At the first walkway, walk forward until you get to the edge. Jump onto the platform to the left of you which is where the first coin is located. When you get to the green scope, look through it and zoom in. That should give you an idea of where the coin is. When you get to the section with all the spiked things, you may notice that the second hiding spot has a platform in front of it. Walk down there, jump onto the donut block to get the coin, then jump back. The final coin is at the end airship with the flag. Go to the side of the stairs and walk out onto the thin strip of ground jutting out from the front of the ship (I forgot what it's called). Walk carefully along it and grab the coin.

We now only have 1 more world before we are 1/4 through the game!

W-4

Level 4-1 - The first coin is at the area with the koopa and the 5 goombas. Destroy the block in the wall and crawl through for the star coin. The second coin is another cloud course. It's not very hard to miss at all. Keep going until you see the rainbow note block. Bounce off of it and complete the course to get the coin, blah blah blah. When you land, long jump or slowfall to the small platform on your left with the cannon on it. Go inside of the cannon and shoot yourself through the coin.

Level 4-2 - Climb up the yellow stairs to the blue area. Jump up against the ceiling at the top of the stairs for the coin. Climb up further until you get to the tower of goombas with 2 coins behind them. Against the wall is a very well hidden crawl tunnel. Crawl through it and drop onto the star coin. When you bounce up to the green timer, jump right and bounce up to the next floor. Next to the right wall is another one of those smiley-block creator things. Hit it as much as you can then use it to wall jump up to the top of it. When you reach the top, jump and grab the star coin.

Level 4-3 - The first is impossible to miss. At the top of the first blue turning block is your star coin. The next coin is almost as easy. Jump off of the top of the largest green spinner onto the rainbow note block. Bounce off, complete the course, you know the drill. To get the final coin, look through the green binoculars and zoom in on toad (he's on top of the big white walls). Jump to the right block and grab it. Those all have to be the least complicated star coins in the entire game.

Level 4-Ghost - The first coin is spinning with a semi-circle of ghosts. The next is at the halfway flag. Go to the bottom right corner of the platform. Walk along the path and destroy the cardboard pipe. A real pipe should pop up out of the ground. The final coin is when you jump out of the warp (!) block. Go backwards (top left corner) and jump off of the platform to grab the coin, but quickly change direction (if you wish to survive).

Level 4-5 - Where the mystery box pops you out at, press both green buttons. Jump on top of the green platforms but then jump on the platform the right green button made. Jump up and grab the coin. The second coin is at the back of a warp (!) block. Jump on top of the moving platform that moves you there. When it gets to the warp block, jump over it and land safely back on the platform. You should get the star coin in the process. The final coin is near the platform that the warp block takes you to. Go in the top left corner (it's somewhat hidden by the camera) and press both buttons. Climb the stairs and jump on top of the next green platform to get the coin.

LAST LEVEL IN THIS PART OF THE WALKTHROUGH!

Level 4-Airship - This level has THE MOST SIMPLE star coins I have ever seen. The first star coin is on a blue platform at the beginning. It's as simple as that, there's nothing else to say about the first coin. The second coin is kind of hard to describe, but it's in plain site. It's under the next ship. Simple as that. The last star coin is on another blue platform. Simple as that.
