Today's review will be on another instalment of the Tekken franchise, this time it is on Tekken 2's Arcade Version B. This game, or should I say Tekken 2 is, my favourite instalment of the Tekken franchise. Before starting to officially review this game, I'd like to say that this review is purely my opinion and you may disagree / agree with it as such within appropriate reason. So don't go and tell me I suck. Okay? Okay.
We dive right in with a cross chop to the face, just kidding. But we start off with the Graphics section, this section is what makes the game not only shine for me, but gives it vivid imagination and colour. Literally, please note that this game is rather old, I think 20 years old now, but my goodness does it make up for it. The colours used in the game are as vivid as any rainbow I have seen. Not only do the fighters marvel, but the character select screen and the backgrounds do wonders as well. The only reason I did not give it a 10 is because sometimes the game will freeze.
Sound up next, is very very good; most characters have their own unique voices bar a couple of obvious ones, the Jacks or the Williams sisters. The sounds each character makes is interesting as well as complex. The noises made by the moves are also interesting albeit cringe-worthy as some moves you can hear bones cracking. Ick! Each character also has his or her own stage with music to accompany it, this is a very nice touch.
Addictiveness-wise (For goodness sake... this word again!) is a solid 10 from me as it has a lot up its sleeve when it comes to gameplay. To elaborate further, the game has a host of 23 characters to choose from. Each one of the characters has his or her own move sets which you can execute to make into combos, throws and even knockouts.
Story is a little hard to explain as each character has their own reasoning for joining the tournament, be it for vengeance, money or just to beat a long term rival, the characters will always have one or more reasons to brawl it out with one another, also it should be noted that each character has a Sub-Boss aside from Kazuya and Devil / Angel.
Depth I had pretty much covered in the Story section, the ultimate goal of any of the characters is to beat their Sub-Boss then Kazuya, I do not know if this is true in the Arcade versions, but in the Playstation version, you are awarded a small movie clip featuring your character.
Difficulty is always hard to rate, but due to this being on the PC compared to a Playstation controller (which is much easier to use) I have given it a rating of 7, plus the fact the difficulty is set to "Medium" by default.
Overall, a wonderful piece of nostalgia and also a good entrance into the Tekken franchise.
