UFC :

Sadly I haven't heard of Demon's Crest before. I haven't really been a big Street Fighter fan so I can't much on that...

However, I have owned and played Bomberman 64, Mischief Makers, and MM7. I love all three of those games very very much and I find it a shame either people don't know about them or hate on them, the hate more or so being on Mega Man 7 for whatever reason.

Mischief Makers has always been a really fun and really goofy game and I was lucky to get my hands on that as a kid. It was odd but man once you figured everything out is was crazy good fun.

Bomberman 64. Come on, its BOMBERMAN. That game was simply amazing when it game out and blew my mind as kid. It was far beyond the classic Bomberman of just blowing up foes or each other like it was back in the NES days but this was a complete, story filled, world exploring game. And even though this is a top 5 list i'd still add Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! as well. I found the sequel to the first one to be even more awesome and with a little sidekick to follow you around and the cool elemental bombs.

Mega Man 7: A game that came from a  powerful classic franchise just as the X series was being given life to the SNES. This is a game I see getting hated on a lot or the phrase "This game sucks". I have no idea why there are a bunch of fans that hate this game. I simply love it myself. New art style, new music, and a twist from the normal 8 Robot Masters. And let's not forget the new addition of a rival: Bass and his dog Treble. This game goes beyond awesome in my eyes and I still own it today. This not only brought a little more to the classic Mega Man but by the end of the game you really got to see a character developed Mega Man with some heavy emotions towards Dr. Wily.

So out of personal experience I would say these games are very underrated. I will have a look at Demon's Crest though because that sounds awesome.

Only one game comes to mind right now - NHL 14. I love that game, it is so much fun, but no one plays it. It is a really good game that does't get the credit that it deserves.

Lets see, top 5 underrated games  ummmm, you know this is a very easy and at the same time very hard question to answer.

Just off the top of my head I would say the top 5 underrated/forgotten games would be

Number one- Knuckles Chaotix for the 32x.

Number two- Sonic Chaos for the Sega Master System and Game Gear, I would also like to add Sonic Triple Trouble as Number two for the same consoles.

Number three- Corpse Killer for the Sega CD. This game would have made a killer (yes pun intended) arcade and is a very fun game to play with a gun (still fun using D pad but not as fun).

Number four- Pirates of the Dark Water for the Sega Genesis. This game is really never talked about and it should be, it is a very fun platformer.

Number five- Shinning in the Darkness for the Sega Genesis. Is game is simi known and talked about but it is the one that is normally over looked in the Shinning series.

I like your thread though, good idea and I can't wait to see what others put. This will be a good way to find some hidden gems!

1. Digimon World, for the PS1. This game isn't very great, but still, it's first on my list of underrated games. It's a unique game, and a quite difficult one at that. It's one of those tamagotchi simulators where you get a Digimon of your own and raise it from a baby to an ultimate Digimon, but meanwhile save the Digital World. Yeah, the translation from Japanese to English is half-baked, with only the cutscenes spoken in English, and the text boxes full of grammatical errors, but the game itself is an experience unlike any other.

2. A Bug's Life, fo the PS1. I actually reviewed this game on Vizzed. Almost nobody liked this game. Many people rated it a 4 out of 10, for its shoddy gameplay. Come on, it's not that bad. It has a cheery soundtrack, colourful graphics, and the gameplay is unlike anything you'll see in any other game.

3. Beyond Good & Evil, for the PS2. I personally have my doubts about having Beyond Good & Evil on the list, since most people I've spoken to loved it, but the game just didn't sell. It looks like the buying behavior of gamers was already rubbish back then as it is now. Guys, put your money where your mouth is! This game is a gem for the PlayStation 2! It hurts me to see how bad this game sold...

4. Mirror's Edge, for the X360. Again, a game I reviewed here on Vizzed. It's a parcours game, where you jump off buildings bright colours and pretty visuals. Given, the controls where something you had to get used to, and the combat was flat-out bad, but the game encourages you to run away from your enemies, rather than take them on. But perhaps I was just so immersed by this game because I used to do a little parcours myself, and as such am a little biased. I can't wait for Mirror's Edge 2.

5. Dog's Life, for the PS2. The reason I place Dog's Life on my list is sort of the same reason as Digimon World. It is by no means a great game, but definitely unlike anything I've ever seen. You can do practically anything a dog can do, and you can just mess with people. It has a story, but it probably won't stick to you once you beat it. But who cares? You can poop in front of people's noses! Besides, that soundtrack... It is hypnotizing...

Bomberman 64 is the only one on that list that I've played. I've always thought about trying Mischief Makers, but I never have yet.

My personal list (no certain order):

1: Haunting, starring Poulterguy. This game is nothing short of Epic. Too bad most seem to have never played it.

2: Theme Park. Great game, but it was released a little before it's time. The Genesis couldn't keep up with the game after you expanded your park too much, so it would lag terribly, and make the game unplayable. There was always the fear hanging over you that if you didn't sell soon enough, the game would mess up and ruin it all.

3: Mission Impossible. Good game, but it didn't seem to make half the splash that Goldeneye did, despite being so much better (in my opinion).

4: Splatterhouse - Wanpaku Graffiti. Again, Epic. With the possible exception of Super Mario Bros. 3, this is the best NES (well, Famicom, since it never hit the states) game ever, I would say.

5: Future Cop L.A.P.D. This game's Precinct Assault mode literally gives it unlimited replay value. Quiet possibly the best PSX game ever.

Doubtless, I would make this list differently if I thought more, but this is a pretty good list still. I started to list Toejam & Earl, but they had two sequels, and were thought for a while to be a candidate for Sega's mascots. Then I thought of Harvest Moon, but with close to twenty games in the series, I can't consider it as being underrated. lol Dino Crises? No, it had a sequel as well (though the sequel wasn't even close to being the same genre). Winback was incredible for it's time, as was Bushido Blade, but again they have sequels.

Anyway, I think this is a pretty solid list. I'll have to favorite this thread, and see what new-to-me games are listed here. Great thread, UFC.

My list is this:

1.  Beyond Good and Evil (Many systems) While the gameplay is simple, it's also really fun!  The game is story-driven and the characters are well put together.  Most of all, though, the game sucks you in.  You play as a undercover reporter and really feel like one throughout the game.  The stealth sections were a blast, and I can't wait to play this game again.

2.  Megaman Battle Network 3: Either Version (GBA) This was my first entry into the series, and is the best, in my opinion.  The unique Battle Chip system and the 6X3 grid really make this series one to remember.  This game (along with other games in the series) defined my GBA experience.

3.  Metal Walker (GBC)  This game is a real gem that features a unique combat system.  Many aspects were borrowed from Pokemon, but it nevertheless stands out.

4.  Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS) This series is well-loved by the fans, but really deserves more praise from the critics.  There isn't much not to love: Great characters, funny dialogue, mysteries to be solved, and burgers.  The only disappointment is the length of the game.  It's short, and replayability isn't high because you've solved the cases before.  It can be fun to revisit the games for the wonderful dialogue, though.

5.  Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episodes 1 and 2 (Many systems)  While I feel that the games aren't particularly great, they aren't bad, either.  They can actually be quite a blast to play at times.  The reworked homing system feels great, and the levels are well-designed, as well.  However, episode 2 only got a 54 on Metacritic.  I was frankly shocked by the reception towards this game.  It can be a bit too easy at times, but there's a lot to do, enough, in my opinion, to warrant the price, or at least for you to pick these games up on sale.

PokemonGuy : Haha, I expected at least someone to say that. The games I mentioned are games nobody likes like I do. That's why I think they're underrated. And keep in mind, that a list like this is always subject to one's opinion. Like Eirinn mentioned, Future Cop L.A.P.D is the best PS1 game ever. Which I personally disagree with. But hey, opinions.

May I ask you why you don't think they are underrated?

I have only one game, but first. *flame shield activated* Banjo-kazooie nuts and bolts. Yeah, it is different, but if you look at it as a stand alone game, it isn't that bad.

1. Manhunt
2. Manhunt 2
3. Spyro: A Hero's Tale
Those are the main 3 I think of as underrated. Also, I think that Resident Evil 5 was a great action game, it just wasn't scary. If you play it not expecting an immersive horror experience, you'll still have a lot of fun.

OrdannonsX : Yes! Someone else who actually likes Dog's Life! I'll admit, the gameplay's pretty mediocre in terms of grandness and glitches, but it's still overall very charming and the music is beautiful.

Anyway, I'd like to nominate, in no particular order:
1. Dark Cloud: Pretty unpopular considering it was localized by Sony. One of my favourite games and a huge part of my childhood. Really hope it comes to the North American PSN soon.
2. Okage: Shadow King: Come on Sony, put this on PSN. I'll admit the gameplay's a little lacking in some areas but this game is very charming none the less. Another huge part of my childhood that I think about often.
3. Haunting Ground: A beautiful game by Capcom that just doesn't get the love it deserves, and another game that should be on PSN. You can tell the developers put a lot of heart into it, and Hewie and Fiona are two of my favourite video game characters.
4. Harvest Moon 64: Again, a game in need of a rerelease. I see a pattern emerging...Maybe it's just nostalgia, but this game is also very important to me, and I just never see anybody making a whole lot of acknowledgement to it. For me, it's the best in its series. It has the simplicity and aesthetics that a Harvest Moon game should have.
5. Dillon's Rolling Western: Finally, a new game. I just don't get the hate it's gotten. This game is awesome. Dillon's a really cool character and the music is insanely epic.

Dark Cloud on my list too
2. Ico
3. Shadow of the Colossus
These are actually pretty popular games but none of my friends have heard of them. If I can think of any more I will come back for 4 and 5.

UFC : That's a good question.
I guess I should give my opinion anyways.
5. Shadow the Hedgehog (yes, I actually like this one and think its underrated. YOU HAVE A FRIGGIN GUN!)
4. Pokemon Crystal (almost everybody except a few think this is inferior compared to Pokemon HG/SS because of the type split was never in this game)
3. Paper Mario (I don't see much people talking about this anymore today)
2. Sonic Heroes (I though this was the best Sonic game ever, and thought it deserves more attention from the Sonic fan base)
1. Pokemon Emerald (with the exception of this site, i heard Pokemon fans say this was the worst, but not me because I like it, and you guys looking at this love it too so, ALL HAIL POKEMON EMERALD!)

OracleofthePenguin : I agree on the Harvest Moon 64 part (obviously). It was a great game, and set the tone for the next several installments in the series. It wasn't until the DS versions that they even started to deviate from the mold it set. It was epic to say the least, especially when you had jumped straight from the first one to it. It rewrote everything but the most basic principles of the game, and made it that much better. The 64 period was sort of "make or break" for a lot of franchises, thankfully for HM, it was a "Make".

Am I allowed to nominate some more games for underratedness (not that underratedness is a word)? If so...

6. Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

7. Tales Of Phantasia. In my opinion, this is the best straight up RPG ever, but I recommend the GBA version.

8. Wetrix (N64 version). This is easily the best Puzzle game ever, in my opinion.

9. Dino Crisis 2. I know I tried to avoid games with sequels last time (though I failed I see), and this one was a sequel, I still think it's underrated. People didn't like it, because it wasn't like the original. In fact, aside from having Regina, dinosaurs, an unlockable mini-game cameo by Gale and...whatever the other guy's name was, and the Name "Dino Crisis", this game had almost nothing in common with Dino Crisis. The first was a horror/survival, with puzzle elements, and an in depth combining system. This one is just a shooter. Blow things up, kill dinosaurs, the end. When I played this one with my sister, we finished it a few times, but I never really saw how great it was, because I saw that it was a miserable failure at being a sequel. For years, I remembered it as a disappointment, until I tried it again recently as a stand-alone game. And I have to say, as a Stand-alone, it's pretty epic! If you like shooters that is.

1. Warsong. Its one of my favorite war sims and I loved the sequel to it which is Langrisser II. That's actually how I found this site.
2. Uncharted Waters New Horizons. This game is very addictive and really relaxing to play especially with the music.
3. Langrisser II. As with Warsong its a war sim and a very good one. The English translation on this site is excellent.
4. Digimon Dawn/Dusk. If you are fan of Digimon this is great game. Its a little bit like Pokémon only with the digimon creatures and the leveling system is different since you can go back and forth through the levels from In Training to Mega.
5. Phantasy Star IV. Not sure if this is underrated, but this is my all time favorite video game and what got me into RPG's. It was an incredibly well designed RPG for its day and the music is fantastic!

5. Rakuga Kids (N64) a very underrated fighting game with some unique graphics

4. Kula World (PlayStation) a 3d platform maze game where you control a beach ball,it's very good and simple

3, Charlie Ninja (Arcade) a decent cartoony platformer and quite simple to get into,it's a game I only discovered this year and no one seems to know it too well

2. Yo Noid ( NES) I know a lot of people hate this game but I find it a fun platformer and don't see why most gamers don't appreciate it

1. Virtual Boy Wario Land (Virtual Boy) the best Wario Land game and not many people will know it because it was released on a not very well received console, but it's on here on vizzed now,so people should play it and see how great it is

5. NASCAR Racing - This game is easily the 2nd best DOS racing game ever that I played. (The 1st would be Carmageddon) It's racing, plain and simple, but it can be a lots of fun. Especially with crashing.

4. Soldier of Fortune - A extremely fun FPS that uses the custom made Ghoul engine on top of the Quake 2 engine for animations.

3. SimCopter - A really fun helicopter game where you can fly around your city made in SimCity 2000, and blow it up.

2. Robotron 64 - Robotron 64 is a fast twin stick shooter based on the awesome Robotron 2084. There is a good version for the PlayStation that has better music, but the version for the Nintendo 64 is superior in gameplay and graphics.

1. System Shock - After the success of System Shock 2 on GOG.com and Steam, I think it is weird that the first System Shock is still underrated. It is easily a awesome FPS game and did things that System Shock 2 did not do first, for example multiple ammo for each weapon and fully voiced voice logs.

That is my list for my top 5 games that are underrated

Tempest 2000 is like Polybius. But better.
