Welcome everyone to the annual Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament. This tournament will last for 20 weeks. The first 4 games will determine who advances into the regular games (I use this to weed out those who don't participate). The next 12 games are regular games and will be used to determine who goes to the elimination rounds. The last 4 games are the elimination rounds and the last round of course is the final game. The idea is to have this tournament last as long as the NFL season so hopefully it ends right before the Super Bowl.

Recording your games isn't required but it is encouraged. However, for playoff games, every game needs to be recorded or spectated, either by one of the teams playing or a spectator (yes you are allowed to have spectators watch your game but be warned that they could cause lag to your game). The plugin supports video recording so you're free to record your session either using the plugin or an external program and than upload your video to vizzed YouTube account or your own but it will be required during playoffs.

For the first 4 weeks, there will be no divisions but after that, I'll split the teams up into 4 divisions. The divisions will be based on everyone's record from the first 4 weeks, each division will be balanced with good and bad players (so the best 2 players will not be in the same division). The best 2 players from each division will advance to the playoffs and than the next 4 best out of the entire league after that. A total of 12 players will go to the playoffs. The best player from each division will have a first round bye in the playoffs. Your regular season record (not including the first 4) will determine your seed in playoffs. Users with a higher seed will play users with a lower seed and the higher seed player will always be the home player.

In each matchup, you'll be either the home player or the away player. The home player is the one who creates the session, they'll be player 1 and they get to pick their team first. Everyone will get a chance to be the home player for 50% of their games but in the playoffs, whoever has the better record will be the home player.

Make sure to let your opponent know what your availability is all week right away. Be sure to tell them what days your available and what time your available on each day. Also be sure to let them know what time zone your times are based on. If you and your opponent can figure out right away what times your both available on, than there should be less problems with scheduling a time to play. I suggest you summon them your availability AND PM them your availability.

You must record your match using the plugin's built in recording. Either you or your opponent should do the recording, you both don't have to do it but if neither of you are able to do it than you should have a spectator do it for you. Your matchup results WILL NOT COUNT if you do not record your matchup so if you both forget to record the game, you'll have to play again! When you've recorded the game, be sure to upload it to the vizzed YouTube account, you can do so by going to the game's page and adding it to the game's page by scrolling down to the video section of the page. The recording is necessary for checking for cheating, verifying results and for statistics. The recordings will also be used for weekly compilation videos which will show off every touchdown from every game for every week.

It is recommended that you play on the United States L2 server since that's the best server. If you're interested in hosting your own server, you must be a Trusted member and you can find the details on how to do that here. The benefit of hosting your own netplay server is that netplay runs a lot faster when your in a session on a server that you're hosting.

2nd = 50,000 Viz
3rd = 25,000 Viz

Remember, you'll get 4000 Viz back if you participate until the end of the tournament.

You'll pick 'Preseason' and choose 'Man' vs 'Man'. Keep all the settings set to default, which includes 5 minute Quarters. The home player is the one who creates the session, they'll be player 1 and they get to pick their team first.

As you can see, the points have started over but that shouldn't be any surprise to those who have been reading my threads because I mentioned doing that from the very beginning. Your points from the first 4 weeks did determine who is in your division. The users who did the best during the first 4 weeks have been placed into divisions with users who did the worst. This was a way to make sure that the best players aren't in the same division and that the users who have done the best so far are rewarded with players in their division (you play everyone in your division twice).

It has come to my attention that some of you still don't know about this thread, even though I've summoned you all at least once already to this thread.

This thread is dedicated to overall tournament discussion and it is where I'll post and update the stats and results every week so I highly recommend you all favorite this thread.

How will the playoffs go? Will it be 2 top seeds and then wildcards?

bobq : Please read my first post to this thread for your answer regarding the playoffs.

I have a suggestion for next year. How about next year, 32 people compete, each user being a specific team and following the NFL schedule, with bye weeks and stuff. First come, first serve for choosing a team. The rules and stuff will remain the same, but the TECMO Bowl tournament will follow the NFL season. I just thought that it would be cool to do.

We could probably do something like that next year, assuming we get 32 users interested in competing. We only had 24 this year so it's hard to say if we could come up with 32 next year but we'll do that if we get enough users competing and if I remember to do that.

Sounds like a cool Idea in theory, but there are a few issues. here. First there are certain teams that people are not going to be happy to be stuck with. I personally like trying out every team, but people would start dropping out if they were stuck with teams that are not very good every week.

Also we have enough problems keeping people active with the number of teams we have now. It's going to be hard to find 32 people that want to compete, and can be active for the entirety of a 16 week season then playoffs.

Davideo7 : I'm confident that you can find 32 people. Worst case scenario, we have a few CPU controlled teams. You could make it a Mega Tournament where Viz can be awarded for making the postseason, winning a division, etc. That might get more people to join. Also, for the postseason, you can offer Viz rewards to teams that lose in the postseason (ex. 5000 Viz for losing in Wild Csrd, etc.). I have alot more in depth details to add if you want to hear it.

Jordanv78 : Acyivity could cause issues. Hopefully more Viz prizes will encourage people to stay active. If it can't be done, then it'll be done the way it has the last 2 years.

megamanmaniac : I wouldn't want a CPU controlled team because a user could easily just play a bunch of matches against the CPU and keep the recording of the one that they did the best in.

I wouldn't want to offer Viz to those who lose because than some users might intentionally lose to earn an easy Viz. I do like the idea of earning Viz for winning a division though.

One way to increase the amount of users who join is to decrease the entry fee but than we risk having more users enter that don't take it seriously. I could make a threat by saying that if you don't participate in the majority of your matches, you lose all your Viz.

Davideo7 : Although having 32 teams would be cool in Theory, no one would want to have to play the teams that aren't very good like the Jaguars...or if they played a few games with whatever team they were assigned they could quickly become disinterested and drop out if they weren't doing very good.

We have enough problems now with that happening. People dropping out left and right. Honestly I would love to have a big tournament, but we need to drum up some more people that would be reliable players. Maybe we could post something at Tecmobowl.org or something IDK.

I would rather have a smaller group of people that I KNOW love to play the game and will be reliable the majority of the time to play their games. Sometimes it's like pulling teeth to get some of these users to tell you a specific day/time that they are available to play.
