Totts : Have you tried limiting your intake of caffine? That should help a bit...and you should avoid taking naps too, that may help.

Don't drink coffee or tea as often and if you take naps during the day then don't. Believe me, naps make it harder to sleep at night.

Try drinking warm milk before going to sleep, it contains the amino acid trytophan. Even though there is not much of it in milk, it can slightly help you sleep. Drinking milk may elicit memories that may help you relax, which really helps you sleep.

Try taking any blue light out of your room - the short waves of blue light may interfere with sleep.
Try not to nap during the day within 8 hours of sleeping.
Try to go to sleep and wake up at approximately the same time everyday - your body will become used to this habit and will fall asleep easier at these given times.
Try not to look at the clock at night - it can interrupt your sleeping, making you worry how much time you have left to sleep before morning. Also, if it has blue led displays, try to block it.
When you want a midnight snack, eat complex carbs and dairy foods, like crackers and cheese.
Try to relax before bedtime, release all your stress.
Stay away from sleeping pills - most of the time you don't need them.

If your insomnia persists for more than a month, you should go to your doctor. Your sleeplessness may be a symptom of something else, like depression.

Hope this helps.

How much sunlight do you get during the day . Somehow (please don't ask me how), the body converts sunlight into the nutrient melatonin. If you are deficient in sunlight either get more or try taking a melatonin supplement (technically not a sleeping pill).
