I'm going to start off by saying that this review may contain spoilers. Any spoilers will be written in blue.
Overall (9.4)
Pokemon Leaf Green is the less popular of the two Generation 1 remakes.
In this game you explore the Kanto Region, catching and training Pokemon
as friends and battle partners. You travel around from city to city
defeating the gyms and getting badges, and eventually go on to challenge
the Pokemon League. You also have to save the world from an evil
organization known as Team Rocket.
Graphics (10)
The graphics in this game are very good. They are the same style as
Pokemon Red and Blue (Green in Japan), only enhanced and in full color.
The Pokemon sprites in this game are very detailed, unlike the blobs of
pixels in Generation 1. Each Pokemon also gets its own picture when
viewing your Pokemon or the PC. In Red, Blue, and Green, Pokemon with
the same body type had the same picture.
Sound (9)
Let's be honest - you love the music in Pokemon. Sure it can get
annoying at times, such as the battle music (when you run into a Zubat
every 3 steps in a cave), or the high pitched beeps in Lavender Town,
but overall, the music and sound effects are very good for a Game Boy
Advance game.
Addictiveness (9)
This game is very addictive. It's the only game I got a level 100 Pokemon on (without cheating) because I just couldn't put it down. Once you start playing you won't be able to stop. I know from experience.
Story (9)
This game follows the classic story. You want to be the very best, like no one ever was. You have a very rude rival who thinks he's so cool because his grandfather is Professor Oak. You explore the Kanto region training your Pokemon and catching new ones. You stop at every city along the way to challenge the gym. Once you collect all 8 gym badges, you challenge the Pokemon League. You win and become the champion, while your rival sits at home and cries (just kidding about that last part). Of course, every game has its villains. There is a group of evil-doers called Team Rocket that wants to collect rare and powerful Pokemon and take over the world. You encounter Team Rocket throughout the game and stop their attempts at robbery, kidnapping, or whatever they may be trying to do. Eventually, you challenge the leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni. You beat Giovanni and destroy Team Rocket. WARNING! SPOILER ALERT! You also discover who the leader of the abandoned Viridian City gym is - Giovanni himself.
Depth (9)
There is always something to do in this game. You can go to the Sevii Islands, catch Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo, breed your Pokemon, or do whatever you want. I promise that you will never be bored while playing this game.
Difficulty (6)
Pokemon games are often very easy. Leaf Green is no exception. You should be able to breeze through the gyms, easily thwart Team Rocket (and their millions of Zubats), and beat the Pokemon League after only a few tries. I do not recommend this, or any other Pokemon game, if you are looking for a challenge.
Pokemon Leaf Green is a fun game that follows the classic storyline, only with better graphics, better sound, and more to do. I strongly recommend this game, unless you are looking for a challenge. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I'm going to start off by saying that this review may contain spoilers. Any spoilers will be written in blue.
